Such a bizarre story on all sides. I’m guessing it’s not getting attention for the same reason the 500+ homicides annually in places like Philly and Chicago get ignored
Or more likely because it’s Coppin State and no one gives a crap about Coppin State. It’s being covered as a local story as it should be.

At Coppin State yes. Does it really impact my life in NJ in any way? No it does not. Only reason it’s even on my radar today is because we spanked them last night.
Well that could be said for most stories on the news. The murders in Idaho, Jerry Sandusky, etc all have no effect on our lives in NJ but they still appear on the news
It’s similar to when a white, blonde hair child goes missing compared to a black child. Studies have shown a greater level of media coverage for the white one

Fair enough and I agree with you on the coverage of missing children/persons. My guess is that if a national outlet like TMZ or Inside Edition finds this story lurid enough they will air it.
Why? I mean Dr. Phil had a catfish show of the week on for awhile, MTV had a show on it. It’s as old as the hills. Some of the incidents are more disgusting than others but it’s nothing new. Some of the media conspiracy theorists on this board make me laugh. You just read a story about it now. A story I was too bored to finish.
Again, I agree with Newell about the disparity in coverage of missing children/persons cases. But to claim this is buried? I would say it’s getting the coverage it deserves. Still wouldn’t be surprised if a national gossip rag show picks it up though because people love to revel in other people’s misery.

The difference is that the two cases you cited were cases of involving years of institutional cover-ups, looking the other way to protect the programs, etc. This seems like a case involving two individuals, including a very disturbed one who is no longer there. And the coach looks to be gone soon too. Not sure why this board is getting so up in arms over this.

It was about the video in that case. It always is when working with the media. It also sparked a larger discussion about abusive coaching, old school vs. new school coaching. Totally different dynamic in my view. You also had another member of the staff implicated and caught on tape.
And don’t get me started on the administrative missteps in dealing with the issue. Throw in the fact that we were in a major conference in a major media market, and there you have it. Very different situation.

The school apparently and head coach both didnt take action when this was brought to their attention. The school also tooke tge financial aid away from the player. Its a big deal. Thats its Coppin and not Duke shouldnt make a difference. Remember the hoax about BYU volleyball which led to Dawn Staley cancelling a game vs them..ridiculous
