I know this doesn't mean much but my wife just found out RU hired Hobbs and it turns out some people in her family know him pretty well. She said he's a genuinely good guy, and extremely smart.
IMO, Rutgers at this point and time needs a leader. Someone who can fundraise, build infrastructure, and has a vision for the dept. Hiring coaches is secondary, and we have plenty of resources to assist with that.
I mentioned elsewhere that NJ is one of the few places that would hire a dean of law as AD of it state university. Due to it's political climate, NJ also happens to be one of the few places where such a person could be successful as AD of a state university.
