...Sorry I haven't done this in a couple weeks.. But here's a quick recap through my eyes...
125... Metzler... Has been through a gauntlet lately and I think its showing.. Clearly wrestling without confidence.. Is reacting to his opponents rather than trying to attack... Hopefully he can get back on track this weekend with Indiana and Purdue... But in order to do that he's going to have to really step it up.. Big Time!!
133... Suriano… Hasn't been tested at all since losing to DeSanto… That will change next Sunday with Micic… He's done what he was supposed to do, so not much else to say here....
141... Lipari, MVB... Finally got a win vs MSU (backup I believe)… But wanted to see him more competitive vs Redd... MVB first match back in a big spot, while not winning, did a nice job of scoring early in 3rd period and turning a potential bonus pt victory into a close match... Need one of those two to step up this weekend.. Especially vs Purdue...
149... Ashnault… Well.... What more needs to be said... He has basically told every other 149 lbr that this weight class goes through him come March!! He dominated Kolodzik in every facet of that match!! He is the best wrestler in this weight PERIOD!!! Now just has to continue to go out there every match like has and PROVE it!!
157...JVB... Wrestled a very good match vs Berger... But as we saw.. Berger is #2 for a reason... But JVB is a guy who you can never ever sleep on... He is wrestling a hell of a lot better since the start of the season... Can he make a run again come March? Time will tell... But I like his chances a lot better than I did 2 months ago.. Sunday will be a good indicator of where he is at!!
165... Glasgow... Kid is a fighter!! To keep going out there not even close to 100% has to be real frustrating... But he is another one who is wrestling better now, than he was earlier... I truly believe this experience, then dropping to 157 next year will prepare him so much better.. Hopefully he can get a couple wins this weekend to boost his confidence!!
174... Grello… Another one who isn't 100%... Really came up huge vs Princeton.. His TD defense was at his best.. And it had to be, since he really didn't come close to scoring on offense.. If he wants to beat a kid like Lydy.. He's going to have to be on the attack...
184... Gravina… Just a damn shame he cant stay healthy as its very tough watching him wrestle as limited as he is... But he is a damn warrior!!! One thing he has always brought, is top effort and he doesn't ever relax on the mat... Hopefully he can knock off someone before this season ends.. Just one last time!!
197... Correnti… Really, really bad loss vs MSU.. Another reminder that you cant relax for even a split second against anyone at this level... Vs. Nebby he was very sloppy... But even though the score was lopsided... He went after it!! Then vs Princeton he stepped up HUGE!!! IMO MVP for that match!! A lot of people were expecting Brucki to bonus him... Instead, He looked like he belonged out there against one of the top kids in the country!! Things might just be starting to click for him!! Remember, he is only a sophomore..So finishing this year strong could really pay dividends heading into the off-season...
285... Colucci... IDK... He really needs to develop some type of offensive attacks if he wants to win in the B1G... Came up huge with bonus vs Princeton!! Now we need him to step up again this weekend especially vs Purdue...
Overall... MSU is improved... But Correnti's match made it a lot closer than it should've been...
Nebby… Even with everyone there, it wouldn't have changed the score that much... They were just a bad matchup for us... Princeton.... YEahhhhhhhh baby!! That was FUN to watch!!! Indiana should be a comfy win... Purdue will be a dogfight...
