Since we don't know who won the battle, and Kyle doesn't even have to answer that question, will he play both, or just give the reps to Hayden and see if not playing for 2 + years has taken a toll that needs to be fixed? Lets face it, there won't be many games to play both to keep the backup sharp, so the guess is both play. Going forward, does that happen or not?

Yes. We will be up by 30 at the half and the backups will get some burn. How much he gets to pass the ball is yet to be determined.

I'd be very surprised if Laviano doesn't play the 2nd half.

I don't think we'll know for sure who the real starter is until sometime next week, although it does seem likely it will be Rettig.

No

No we play 3. Retrig plays well puts 3 Tds up in first half Latvians comes in halfway through third and rescigno comes in for hand off duty in the fourth

This is a tough call because there are decent reasons both for and against.

Like the previous poster said....there aren't many games where we have the chance to get a player a true "Game" feel while still feeling comfortable that we will be able to get the win even if the QB makes mistakes. So I could definitely see Flood using this game to give both "Game" exposure and to see how they look and perform.

Now the main reason against this is the fact that Flood said he doesn't want the starting QB having to look over his shoulder. So basically I could also see Flood just playing Rettig only if he does well because he wants to establish a "starter."

I would prefer that they both get a half so we can get some video of them both in the game. This benefits them both and benefits Flood and his ability to evaluate the QB's. Be ultimately we still want to make sure we get the best QB to be "the guy" so I don't think we should make any calls to early.

I think the main reason to play only one QB in the first game is to get him more experience and confidence. If our starter was a seasoned senior QB then I could see them putting in the back up late in the game.

I don't think he said that. Rettig is playing the first half by default because Laviano is suspended. I don't think he said anything about who will play in the second.

Yeah, he was kind of vague. I looked and he saw Rettig would play 1st half and then they would make a decision about second half.

I think the only way Laviano gets a whole half is if Flood was ready to name him the starter and not Rettig. If Rettig was to start I think Laviano gets maybe the 4th quarter.

I think your 100% right on this. If that's how it plays out, we will know who won the summer battle.

Yes we will.

After this weekend - no - probably not.

Yep, this sounds right

Yes. If RU is ahead comfortably at the half then Rettig has gotten a solid half of game experience and you want the same for Laviano. If the game is tight at the half, unless the O has scored 28 and there a problems with the D, then Rettig hasn't gotten the job done and you put in Laviano in to put the game away.

The only question in my mind is if the score is 49-3 do you put Rescigno in to get a little game experience.

I think I would lean towards playing Rettig the entire game. He is someone who has never taken a snap in a college game and the more reps he gets, hopefully the better prepared he will be for the tougher games.

While I mostly agree with you, that assumes that he was the staff's choice as starter.

I want Rettig in the whole game except for maybe the last series or two, if that. He needs as much live in game experience as possible.

I think he'll play 3 if the game is going well....

Rettig does well in the first half Chris comes in
Rettig do poorly in the first half Chris comes in
What part are you needing clarity on

So the irony now is that Rettig will be in the exact situation that Flood said he wanted to avoid. He'll be playing while looking over his shoulder to see if the coaches are going to make a switch.
