Does Rutgers pull the trigger right after the Maryland game, or do they drag their feet?

Time is everything when there are so many openings, and I'm sure Julie has a list, and wants to show class and not contact anyone before the axe falls.

But...particularly to those coaches on the short list...don't you want to be telling them (through their agents?) not to make any quick decisions.

If there is an intelligent & shrewd strategic plan in place ... then ... some communications are probably in process ...
There are back channels ... and deep back channels - and subtle communication is possible if done properly.

- and if there is an intelligent plan in process - then one of the things being conveyed in the very subtle overtures would be that it has already been established that the $$$ will be there for multiple points of need - since attempting to entice an up grade at HC without making it clear that ample resources will be there for a first rate staff would be just cold stone stupid.

- and one of the key things being gleaned would be - who is seriously interested in the Rutgers opportunity - so that even before there is a "thank you Kyle, but we are going to go in a different direction" conversation - there is absolute clarity as to the list of willing & serious candidates for HC

Is the Pope Catholic?

They'll fire him 2 days before signing day, since it worked out so well last time.

If coach Flood truly wanted to save his job he would have made some key changes once he came back from his suspension. This kid Rettig should have been given an entire quarter in each game. By now he should be starting. He should have switch up his play calling and should have a starting RB. Instead he has basically thumbed his nose at everyone and said "I'm not going anywhere this year or next because your broke, thank you medical school merger". I truly and genuinely believe that's what's going through his mind. One more thing, if he beats Army and Maryland both Barchi and the professors will try to browbeat Herman into keeping him another year. Sit back and watch.

When Schiano left I was first annoyed at the timing, but later came to realize a week before signing day was actually best for RU. If done too far in advance recruits have more options to go elsewhere and if done after signing day it results in bad blood. If Flood is replaced after this year some foot dragging may be beneficial to hold on to most of the class. Maybe "evaluate the status of the program after the season" and drop the ax mid to late January, with a new coach announced the next day.

No no no, we might be only program in the country that would prioritize one recruiting class over the future of the program. Can we not make the same shortsighted bone headed decision again.

He should get fired at the end of the season, we need to hire when there are still good candidates looking for jobs or else we will have to scramble and hire someone we might not be happy with. If the recruits wants to leave so be it, its much much more important to fix the ship and do this right than worry about saving recruits. Lets worry about fixing Rutgers football, if we can do that I am sure recruiting will fall into place.

There's no percentage or class in firing before the season is over, with the possible exception of us getting a bowl game at 5-7. Then it's a conundrum because it could limit our efforts toward getting a new guy.

Do you have proof of this or is it pure speculation?

I know for a fact that agents of two coaches have been speaking to RU. I personally know one of them wants the job. I'm sure they are speaking to others. IMO Julie needs to get a replacement in line that will agree to the terms of a contract before pulling the trigger. This does not mean that Flood will be let go. However, it means they may know who they can land if they pull the trigger.

Please tell Al Golden we can do better.

Terrible year to be looking for a coach. Will end up over-paying for 2nd rate replacement.

If it happens I'd expect it to be on the Sunday after or Monday at the latest and frankly if he were to stay you'd probably hear a statement of support by then too.
