Don't Understand

We were more talented last year and we were 4-8. We lost some pretty key players last year. Caroo, Longa, Gause, PJ, hell even Federico and Gleeson.

Our best receiver is a two star freshman whose best sport is baseball. Our OLine looks like they've gotten worse. Our linebackers are undersized and slow. Our secondary has been decimated by injuries and players kicked off the team. We don't have a qb who can complete a simple flat route. Our DLine has been underwhelming to say the least but it doesn't help when your offense goes three and out under 3 minutes.

I would say our secondary has a bright future. Our OLine isn't getting better any time soon unless Micah Clark is ready to start as a freshman. We may have some future in our young receiving core. Running backs don't seem to be too concerning.

Who is going to play on the DLine next year? What about linebacker? Is Oden going to develop?

It's going to take a 3 year minimum to become a bowl team again.

I keep looking at improvement. Or shall I say lack of. Even if you're at the low end of the talent scale, improvement (even marginal) gives hope. For me and potential recruits. The secondary has shown some. But where else on the team has there been improvement from last year? From game to game this year? I'm just talking ANY individual....and it's been spring practice, fall practice, and FIVE games.

It doesn't look good. Ash is going to get three years. What has happened so far to make one believe it will get better (other than it can't get worse).? Well, we've got 6 more games.

I kept saying that our WR and OL groups would regress this year without LC and Lumpkin but, of course, many here refused to listen. There simply is a lack of major talent, combined with learning new systems, and one of the hardest schedules in the nation, which all adds up to, well, what you're seeing out there now.

NUTS -- I'm not even talking groups. Of course, without Caroo the WR group would not perform as well. I speaking about individual players getting better. Has Agudosi improved? Has Patton gotten better? Has Flanagan looked more like a pass catcher out there? There are countless ways to grade players from one year to the next. From one week to the next. Does anyone have a grade that's going up?

C'mon. You know the answers you're gonna get.

We need BAC's pre-seaon prediction thread. I'd love to see if the people who were picking 6-8 win seasons (many of whom insisted, for years, that Flood's recruiting wasn't bad....), are a much higher % of those bashing Ash, than not.
Oh, I don't need to look. For some reason, the dominant board pathology is to be correct. All other factors are expendable. As predictable as it is comical.

We would have looked a lot better if we were still using Flood's offense and defense which these guys were recruited for. Pro-style and a soft zone. And we'd still have Flood. So take your pick, maybe 30 points closer in the score now but getting worse every year, versus having a competitive Big 10 team in 2018.

Yeah, the losses of Lumpkin and Caroo are glaring.

Usually when you have players graduate, the next man up is not that large of a drop off.....and even if it is, the rest of the unit steps up. But wow, poor recruiting has really screwed us across multiple team units. And when it's multiple team units, you see an offense like ours. It's really a perfect storm of failure for us.
