i know I'm late to the party, but I just started checking out the DJI phantom 4 drone videos on YouTube, and it just seems like it's the coolest aerial video device ever available to consumers.....and I'm surprised there are no Rutgers campus or stadium shots from it posted to YouTube yet.

It definitely seems like the kind of thing Ash would want his video/marketing crew to get some practice footage with......absolute wow factor. The tracking mode, Makes any football player look like he's in a video game.

You can't even get water bottles into HPSS. How do you expect people to bring drones in?

I'm not talking about for game nights....I'm just talking about promotional videos.....I'm sure they've used them, but I think there's wow factor in giving the attention to individual players, maybe on media day....

This video goes a bit too far, with go pros AND drones....

OP is spot on. I bet in 5-7 years (ok maybe 10) the practice he is describing will be so common in sports that we'll begin to forget what it's like NOT to watch tracked drone footage of an individual player.

P.S. I wonder if one of the future steps in television and the sports entertainment industry, or for this particular matter, football, will be the option for live high-definition first-person broadcasts. Just imagine a pea-sized Go Pro embedded into a player's helmet. Imagine seeing LIVE what Tom Brady is seeing downfield, then quickly switching on the fly to the perspective of the Pats wide receiver that he is throwing to as the ball zips towards his face... and towards your tv screen. Then with the click of a button you're back to the standard view. Or an aerial view. Or that gliding tight rope view... the Ito camera. Think video game meets real life. For the Go Pro cams maybe the lenses are scratch proof, waterproof and practically indestructable so they can take the abuse during a game. Only problem is keeping the lens clean. Maybe it self-cleans. OK I'm gonna stop now. :D

But wait, before you call me crazy, just remember that 20 years ago or whenever it was, some crazy man or woman or team of innovators probably said "Hey wouldn't it be cool if you could pause and rewind live tv?" He/she/they were probably called crazy back then, too. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Was just joking around.

Cool stuff. I'd like to see more of the stuff DirtyRu was talking about implemented. Action cam stuff is tricky, though. It's fun to cut in and out, but watching it too long gets dull and makes the viewer need a hurl. Being able to control it on the viewer end would be cool, though.

I have been looking at that DJI Mobile stick gimble thing.. looks nice.. $300 seems a bit much.. but it really looks like it can take a premium phone and do wonders for the video you cn get out of it.

And they make a version with its own camera.. both have 3-axis stability and a way to get a 4th axis stabilized.

This guy is loud but puts it through its paces a bit..

Umm ... Rutgers football has been doing a bunch of drone videos. In fact, the video marketing team has gone above and beyond this year if you ask me. Check these out: (also, check out Ru Football facebook for more videos)
