Dylan Harper >>>>>>Ace Bailey

The tape from the Indiana game will really have a GM thinking about Ace

Have to think about a 21 year old Ace who has put on 25 lbs of muscle while becoming a man

Forgot even 21 year old.
Imagine a 26 year old Ace after 7 years of developing his body and working on his game.

My dream as a Nets fan is get Dylan. He immediately makes us better.
Then we lure Ace in 6 years.
He signs a rookie max extension then demands a trade to the Nets.

Now that they have each played their final game at the RAC, I don't think there's any doubt Dylan is way way better than Ace. Dylan is much more consistent and I don't see how any NBA team could take Ace ahead of him.

I think it’s pretty much accepted all around Ace is being drafted on potential, not current play.

Whether he hits that ceiling is the question, but his potential ceiling is higher than Dylan’s ceiling.

It's been very amusing how some fans want a developmental program and build the team with players who will excel in 2-3 years.

But then those fans completely misunderstand that Ace is being drafted for his development over the next 5+ years by an NBA team. Hopefully 10 years.
They complain that he isn't immediately ready for the NBA so a GM must be insane to draft him.

NBA teams are much more dedicated to "development" than college programs who only get players for 4 years.

Right now Ace can make tough shots and appears to be a better shooter.

I think Ace is more NbA ready
I'd agree with this. The NBA has an existing defined role for Ace - it's not hard to imagine him having a very long NBA career in a Michael Porter/Mikal Bridges (Knicks) type role. He could probably do decently in that type of setup now.

After the season my thoughts are still the same, Dylan more college ready, Ace has the higher upside. I saw a lot of growth in Ace this year, not as much in Dylan.

Dylan is the son of an accomplished NBA player, and has has high level training and played against the highest level of competition his whole life. Ace has played at lower level high school and AAU programs, and guys his height usually take a little more time to develop. Dylan is also 6 months older, which is meaningful at this age. No one should be surprised that Dylan may be a little ahead of Ace, but he may peak a lot earlier and that Ace has much greater upside.

Would be curious peoples’ reactions if DH didn’t have the ball in his hands all the time. As a result he’s naturally inclined to make his own shots (I will never forget Kobe’s advice to RHJr.).

It’s hard to do anything when the starting pg has to not 2 assists - though I’m sure that number would increase if AB had made a few more.

The games DH was out Ace shined.

Day 1 Ace is ready to knock down shots. He has a quick and high release. His shooting is the asset.
His shooting is definitely his biggest asset, along with his general athleticism. His handle needs work still and he is nowhere near as good going to the hoop as Harper is; Harper's biggest weakness, IMO, is his fairly low release point on his jumper.

4 years? More like 4 months.

Not the past couple games… he’s inconsistent but I guess the NBA will be patient. In the old college games, he’s a least a year away… today? WTFK

Being a better shooter doesn't mean he's more NBA ready

Dylan's game is sooo much more advanced and polished

Ace is struggling often in college in many aspects of the game. It's going to take him some time in the NBA but his ceiling is unlimited

This is exactly why i think bailey is nba ready over harper. I dont think you want or need bailey taking it to the rim

I’ll be rooting for Ace and Dylan to somehow make a miracle run on the big ten tourney and get us to the dance. If that doesn’t happen, I really don’t care at all where they’re drafted and what they do. They’ll be always associated with the most disappointing season the modern history of RU athletics.

Nothing ace or Dylan will accomplish in the NBA will rub off on Rutgers. It was a complete failure as an experiment
This isn’t true at all. Prime example of looking at a situation from an RU fan's perspective. The vast majority of all fans won't remember in years down the line that Rutgers missed the tournament with Ace and Dylan

They will just see and hear Ace and Dylan’s name being mentioned in the same sentence as Rutgers. Every time it happens it's free good publicity and helps the brand

If either or both become stars, it's a very good look for RU

I see your point, but not driving successfully makes him easier to guard and less likely to become a major star, IMO. On the flip side, though, his athleticism running the floor has not been on display much on this RU team, which isn't built to run the floor - but for many NBA teams that play like that, that ability will be a big plus, as he's really fast for his size and his handle is more than good enough on the break (and not always needed with great passers throwing him alley oop dunk lobs).

Dylan is ready Day 1 for the NBA but of course will have struggles. The comparisons to Jalen Brunson and Cade Cunningham are legit in my opinion . Not often this year but it has happened he has had his shot blocked this year, which will happen a lot more at the next level . He did not recover quickly after the block causing a fast break and points. He has to get back on defense.
When Dylan wanted to play defense , he played better defense than all our guards . But the energy expended limited the times he was all in on defense.
Ace has the smoothest shot but for the first time in his life , he had to make a decision when to shoot or not and sometimes did not make the right decision. He can get any shot at any time and that makes him intriguing to the NBA , When hot he can go for 40. Durant comparisons are close but he has to improve his handle a lot to get there. ACE’s defense definitely got better and was much improved all year long.
Both are going to have impactful NBA careers.

I agree for right now because of Dylan's ability to get to the basket. However ace would look very different with a true center that rebounded, defended the paint and blocked shots. Hard to do all of that and make jump shots. But a well conditioned Ace that has been in the weight room and refined his handle with NBA developmental coaches. Thats why they might take ace over anyone else..

Imagine if Ace had Myles or Cliff......
Imagine on top of that we was well conditioned.....

I have been hard on Ace and Dylan's defense, but the real position on the floor that has really let us down the most defensively is/was the "5".

Definitely as soon as it was stated that Rutgers wasn't bringing in a veteran big man I knew this season was in trouble. I allowed myself to be hopeful but you can't go into the season with this roster. Mag was the biggest loss imo.. he is what made the Rutgers press a weapon, I've never seen a player with his type of impact on defense. I know Caleb McConnell is considered the greatest RU defender of recent years but to me mag made a bigger impact. With Cliff handling paint duties so Ace can save his energy for jump shots and mag making difficult for the opposing team to even run their offense. This team would be near the top of the big ten. Idk who's in charge of raising NIL money but someone needs to slap them lol..should have retained those two and brought a veteran guard that can shoot. Lol my boy Matt alocco

We will probably never know what happened behind the scenes with mag 2023-2024. We will not know how much, if any, Mag was in the wrong and if RU made mistakes dealing with him.

NIL is a big part of the game and it is a simple fact. Saw a quote, NON VERIFIED, where Harden reportedly said NIL is like an open wiring of funds to players.

What if Mag was told there was no money for him and then finds out there was money found for Noah Fernandes (or any other player)? If that hypothetical or something close is true I can't blame mag.

Dylan is better right now but Ace's ceiling is much higher. That said it's all just potential at this point. You can see he has a lot to learn about the game of basketball.

By all accounts he works hard and his God given talent is undeniable, but mega money has a way of exposing people, good and bad. Will he reach it? That's the gamble.
