All kidding aside, Willard has done his best work this year, but it's really difficult to see RU this bad right now. I don't think Hobbs has a difficult job because whomever he ultimately selects will come off looking like a rose.

There are other Pitino protégés in trouble, like Richard Pitino in Year 3 at Minnesota who just got wiped out by NWestern at home by 25.....Chris Collins and the depth of coaching knowledge he captures from his Dad Doug Collins are completely undressing teams that are unprepared or not overwhelmingly athletic.

Northwestern had a very good coach in Bill Carmody, who made them respectable for years, just not enough to get over the hump.....now with a down year in the B1G, NW may finally make the dance.

Pitino Jr and Eddie are in deep trouble....ironically, I don't feel bad for Minnesota, they've made fantastic hires in years past in Don Monson and Tubby Smith, 2 top coaches in my mind. Minny has the facilities and no excuses about not having money, but they will almost certainly cut ties this off season and eat whatever is left on his deal. Hobbs will have to do the same for Eddie.

On Seton Hall, I have no idea where the middle of the Big East is, but Seton Hall has a chance to get to that 5th place spot, along with GTown, Marquette and a couple of other schools. Willard will be difficult to fire if he makes the NIT or gets Hall close to the bubble. That may not be enough for their fan base as well, but it's the cycle of expectations right now.

Here's an interesting and more depressing thought. If it weren't for the contract, this is the type of year that gets a coach fired before it even ends. But, even in that situation, RU might not be able to do it. Is there an assistant on the staff who is even good enough to represent RU as the interim coach?

scary thought

meanwhile I listened to SOU's Halline on the way to the RAC yesterday and 75% of the posters calling wanted Willard fired. If only we could have that 12-4 record and 2-2 in league with so many games to play. Over here at RU we have fans pleading that its not Eddies fault and we need more time

When EJ took the helm Rutgers was the poster child for embarrassment in college basketball. Three years later, RU is the definition of laughingstock in college basketball.

Eddie, we were looking for change, but not this kind of change.

If the decision is made to move forward without Eddie, his departure will probably not be midseason. They will have him step down for some made up reason to avoid a firing at a dead period when all focus is off the program. Has nothing to do with capable assistants to take over, I just don't see how Rutgers can fire one of their few icons of the program midseason.

Missed my point.

I always think of Michael Kay when I hear that quote.

Missed my point.

I was trying to say that the person supersedes the contract in this particular instance.

I just don't think eating the money left on the contract is as big as the future negative ramifications of firing the person in this case. And as far as capable assistants taking over, at this point probably no wins remaining anyway so anyone can go through the motions to finish out season

Still kind of missing the point.

It was just another way of illustrating the weak staff that EJ has put together.

It's not his fault (or at least less than 50% his fault), but he has to go anyway. Sometimes you need to replace those in charge just for the sake of making a change.

I can liken this somewhat to RU firing my gal Julie as AD...for the school to move on and to truly position itself in the best way, she had to go even if she had some things moving in the right direction. For basketball to move forwad Eddie has to go. We have to sell facilities and we cannot do that with a guy that people do not believe in. The sooner these things happen the better we can strike iron

Honestly, I had no idea Kay often uses that BJ quote from Say Goodbye to Hollywood.

I've been writing it on cards for over 20 years whenever someone leaves the office.

At the end of every Michael Kay show on ESPN radio in NY, Michael Kay says " In the famous words of Billy Joel life is a series of hellos and goodbyes. I'm afraid that it's now time for goodbye."

Now living in FL, as a big Michael Kay fan I can honestly say that I miss his show with Don Lagreca. Maybe I can pick it up on Iheartradio on the Internet.

Let's email Hobbs and tell him he is FOS with his facilities and Recruiting albatross reference. He needs to resign and let's bring back Julie Herman. She understands you can still recruit 2016 players that want top notch facilities with your 1977 facilities.

1977 to 2016=======35 + year old facilities. No Power Five program has older facilities.

Please try to stay positive and focus on ways to improve the basketball team and not overrun the message board with negative comments. Thank you in advance.
