enough kool aid already.....

To me it really an interesting decision...Still too many players that will be exposed in a spread system as opposed to a pro set. I will say if we are 100% option spread we will get between 2 and 4 wins. If we ease the system in between 5-7. But instill the system now and we are ahead of the game in the years after that. Do we buy wins this year or save them for the future?
You make this statment often, Can you explain to me your rationale? Personally, I see it as the complete opposite situation. As we saw last season, in a pro set with no QB, TE, or FB your offense is going to stall. There is a reason MAC and Confernce USA teams make games with P5 opponents more interesting than they should be year in and year out and it isn't because they have more talent. The spread allows you to isolate the few playmakers you have in space while also hiding your weaknesses.

I've always said I'm a feet on the ground guy. I don't let myself get too high with this hire or the basketball hires even though I've seen some positive things on both sides. I've said I felt this staff has the potential to be one of the best recruiting staffs we've had here. I'm happy we're running the offense I've been advocating for some time. I'm happy to see the basketball assistants we've hired. However, in the end it's all about winning consistently at a strong level and everything done from assistant hires, to recruiting, etc.. is a means to that end.

That being said for those that want to drink kool aid, drink up. The initial stages of a hire is the time where all the optimism, hope and excitement should be overflowing before whatever reality, good or bad, sets in. So for those inclined to be enthusiastic this is the time for it.

There is a transition period. How difficult or easy it will be, I don't know. I'll have some patience with that. Spread offenses are suppose to be easier to pick up so maybe the transition won't be as bad as some think.

I'm trying to think of other schools that transitioned recently from a pro style to a spread. OSU from Tressel to Meyer was one. Now they had a premier coach and talented players but they had a great year. Just on a relative basis comparing to themselves IIRC I think their offense improved quite a bit. I couldn't think of others off the top of my head. I don't think being in that 5 win area is too much of stretch personally.

1)QBs not built for the spread, cannot outrun free defenders
2)WRs not there yet, and cannot get separation
2)Right tackle not good against a rush end, which means we will have serious issues containing the corner in the QB keep of the option. Plus we now have no FB to max protect when the end beats said tackle
3)brand new left tackle, possible same issues as #2, although we haven't seen him in real action
4)Guards much better at straight ahead blocking in power runs.
5)TE, with the exception for Arch, better suited for pro set
6)best asset are rbs, which are good in both systems, but really helps pro set
7)if any or all of above makes it so defenses are not scared of passing game they could keep players in the box, completely nullifying the spread

Pretty much have most of those issues if we stayed in the pro set. Some like the OT's may be helped being a spread.

Just a quick note, at one point in time I was wholeheartedly against going full force to spread option...now I am thinking that there are advantages to taking our lumps this year but coming out of it already seasoned with the system we will have for as long as Ash is here

1) while preferred you don't need a blazer. The ide is to make defenses account for the QB. They only need to be mobile enough to keep the D honest. See Cardel Jones.
2) that's the thing, they don't need to get separation like in a Pro Set. They need to be able to hit quick timing routes in space. We have enough guys who can do that. As well as some big bodied guys on the outside.
3) LT would be required to hold his blocks longer in the pro set. Plus having every play out of the shot gun allows quicker reads.
4) this is your opinion. We don't know that
5) yes, we haven't recruited for the Flex TE but it's not like our guys are 270lbs. They run well enough.
6) I dint get this. Pretty sure OSU RB's made out ok.
7)you can't keep people in the box unless you leave people wide open. If we go 5 wide there is nobody left to leave inside. That's kind of the point.
