One play was a microcosm of this game and it showed how Stony Brook wanted this game more than us!! It was in the second half when the Stony Brook player missed a foul shot and we had 3 guys standing there blocking out no one and the guard came in and got the rebound. This was not a ball that bounced out to the side this rebound was right underneath the basket. Plain and simple they wanted it more and Pikell couldn’t get his guys to respond!!

I was pissed when I was watching and realized it was a guard who got the board. I still can’t wrap my mind around that loss.
So many bad plays but the one you cite is at the top of the list.This game was a reality check showing the limitations of coaching when players fail to execute basic fundamentals.
Classic let down game. I'm sure the coaches warned them about this, but often it doesn't take. Guys think they're playing hard but are not. Coach or player oftentimes has to do something dramatic to wake them up & get their attention.
Was coaching an American Legion baseball team decades ago & we were getting beaten in the middle or late in the game something like 6-1. My guys came off the field & I called them together in front of the bench. Told them they all had their heads up their asses. Why don't they go pick up the bats & we'd get the hell out of there, they could spend the day with their girl friends & give their uniforms to their sisters. Got their attention. We ran them off the field & won 8-6.
