ESPN Is....

It's been home to some historically bad basketball on the men's side so maybe that's what she meant!?[winking]

the RAC has more charm/nostalgia than some run of the mill arenas. It’s unique
...but historic is probably not the right word...lol

If you take Rutgers basketball out of the mix, still, the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Pete Maravich, Larry Bird, Julius Erving, George Gervin, Tiny Archibald, Dave Cowens, David Thompson, Bernard King, Dan Roundfield, Moses Malone, Elvin Hayes, Rick Barry, Walt Frazier, Earl Monroe, Robert Parish, Wes Unseld, and Foots Walker all plied their trades in this place at the sport's highest level which, to me, makes it historic.

Extra credit for your recognizing the achievements of Clarence "Foots" Walker

No, it doesn't. Because there are A LOT of arenas that can say that, without the dreadful college basketball to go along with it.

Having to be a four-year temporary home for the Nets is not necessarily the stuff of historical markers.

For a swift dose of reality -- The Barn had NONE of that and is certainly historic. A lot of schools have wonderful old gyms that qualify, and some still play in them.

This is the loudest arena around when it gets booming. Certified fact.

The RAC is historic.

...and Dick Vitale coached at the RAC.

When people say Vitale was never head coach at Rutgers I always reply, "Sure, he was. Head coach of the Pistons at the RAC." [winking]

The Barn was our home court for 47 years. It was the home court for two NCAA tournament teams. The RAC has been our home court for 41 years and was the home court for four NCAA tournament teams. How much great college basketball was really played at the Barn?

And there aren't A LOT of basketball arenas (certainly not current college arenas) that can say those legends played in them. Most of those arenas have been demolished or replaced.
