Every Simon throw against Temple

There's a pretty insightful two part write up on https://www.onthebanks.com/ about this very topic. I found it to be a really good analysis. Draw your own conclusions. One part that struck me after reading this thread.

"My personal opinion is that Simon did exactly what Greg Schiano asked him to do coming into the game against Temple and surely re-iterated once Wimsatt went down due to injury, nothing more, but nothing less. To say Simon is “not the guy” is extremely premature under the circumstances. This could probably go in the facts column but the garbage some people (including some journalists) are spewing about how Simon was “inaccurate” is completely false or at the very least, a re-definition of the word."

It’s not that he’s not “the guy”. The coaching staff clearly does not trust him to make decisions on the fly and/or take shots down field or up the middle. At least not when we’re in a tight game. Perhaps if we were up big or if we go down big at some point the approach will be different.

Oh I agree with you. I was more referring to the claims of inaccuracy. I fully believe he was told "if it's not wide, wide open, toss it out of bounds."
It's a pretty good read IMO.

Your right. That said, the reason he was told that might have to do with the scouting report on his limitations based on practice / camp. There has to be a reason that NV was held on less of a leash last year with far less OL depth.

Some solid analysis here with diagrams and breakdowns of the plays, and where things when wrong on several levels:

"Facts: Simon played well enough for Rutgers to win: he did not turn the ball over or ever really put the ball in harm’s way. Despite an insanely conservative game plan and no real run game threat, he did complete 60% of his passes including a critical 4th down conversion. Simon also protected himself physically as the only healthy scholarship quarterback available for the final three quarters of the game."

"Do I agree Gavin Wimsatt has a higher ceiling than Simon? Absolutely! But right now Gavin has completed just 19 of his 44 career passes with four interceptions, and just a single touchdown (that required an insanely athletic catch from Chris Long despite being wide open)."

Posted both direct links above. Highly recommend the first part posted in the link above, with diagrams of many passing plays and excellent analysis. We should keep posting this (seriously), as it is a detailed analysis versus a gut feeling that the QB did not do his job. Nobody did their job particularly well on the passing plays that were not completions.

BUT.. I don't see him obviously going through a progression.
This. I don't recall a fade which didn't seem to be the primary target, and most were overthrown. Hopefully a diff QB with a running threat, and more first down passes, can lead to more production especially when not getting PI calls.

Simon seems to lock on receivers early and gives defense a clue to who is throwing to and because of this he misses some open receivers. The one he didn’t throw away was the bad sack that took us out of FG range. If Gavin and Noah are not available, then I would like to see more of Johnny at QB. Coolest, calm and aggressive offensive player on team.

These are the worst QB highlights I have ever seen from a QB that has as much experience as Vedral. You won't find anyone who throws with less velocity at this level than Vedral. He seems like a great guy and I would even root for him to coach here down the road, but he does not give us the best chance to win and has had his opportunity.
And if we had tall smart receivers who could win contested ball.. and if Vedral were highly accurate with soft throws.. we could make it work.. we'd have a guy who could make SOME of the throws rather than all of the throws.

..but soft throws, late throws, inaccurate throws, on short routes.. just cannot get it done. And Simon reminded me of Vedral on some of those throws when he looked much better over the last two games and in the spring game.

Of course, it is a brand new year. Anything is possible.
