First offer of Ash era is to a Pitt commit from NB

The deal with Ffrench is Pitt was one of the first schools to notice him and offered early. Prior to his lights out performance as a Senior. He has told a local sports writer he is solid with Pitt even after the Rutgers offer. Everybody knows nothing counts until they sign. However, he appears to be a solid Pitt commit.

Anyone with any actual knowledge know how this worked? Who made the offer? Ash? Barthel? who's making offers right now? why would Ash (who recruits D players mostly) agree to make an offer to a RB (granted, listed as Athlete)? Who recommended?

Not criticizing - it just seems strange this is first offer? seems like there's some story/background I'm missing.

Just guessing, but when Ash met with the coaching/recruiting staff he probably asked are there any players who were close but never offered. I would think he would have had to sign off in any case.

Total guess: Barthel suggested offering the kid to Flood, he didn't bite, then sometime since being hired Ash was shown his film, was impressed, got the offer out.

He had test score issues that have very recently become no longer an issue.

Interesting update on this OP from my central Jersey.com.

Apparently, two Pitt assistant coaches Tim Salem and Renaldo Hill recently showed up at the Home News Tribune 2015 All Area Photo shoot at East Brunswick HS. Maurice was there with 4 other Rutgers recruits and Devin Miller.
