Five Players Arrested

The bond amounts point to the degree of involvement.

"Bail has been set at $625,000 for Johnson; $500,000 each for Boggs and Mastriana; $100,000 for Chen and Ricks; $75,000 for Delon Stephenson, and $25,000 each for Daryl Stephenson, Peele, Barnwell, and Gross," as reported bt The Record..

What the hell was the university thinking when they allowed these kids to even be on the practice field? And, let's not even get into the innocent until proven guilty. Now we find ourselves with numerous holes to fill and the email s*it storm gaining force with the season starting. What a friggen mess!
where is it documented that the university knew of the charges before the arrests?

Looks like you could be in for a real fight this weekend. Think you can steal a win?

I am actually excited because now this will be a competitive game. Don't forget our starting WR and captain is suspended for one half because he wanted to party instead of focus on football.

It seems a bit misleading. Boggs was a home invasion charge. The remainder were all for a fight with another student.

Prosecutor did not think it was fight. The prosecutor's release said: "The six were charged today with aggravated assault, riot, and conspiracy to commit a riot. A 19-year-old male student suffered a broken jaw during the unprovoked attack."

So lawyerly types, obviously Boggs and Johnson are effed but what does a $25,000 bond mean in terms of serousness of the charges. Could they be looking at probation or the like instead of jail time?

Agree-innocent until proven guilty, but this looks bad and if in fact they are guilty these are some major idiots that were invited to our school. Really ticked off right now - that's the only way I can describe my feelings. Shamed themselves and our University.
All Flood recruits. Bottom of the barrel recruits. The newspaper said the fighting or rioting happened in April so Flood knew this already.

Alright, enough of my fun...and it was meant to be fun.

I hope you guys pull through this and still have a great season. If Flood gets canned it could be the best thing that happens to your football program. You need a salesman (IMO) who can build some excitement around the program and keep your top kids at home. You guys aren't/weren't going anywhere with Flood.

I wonder if the prosecutors want Stephenson, Peele, Barnwell and Gross to testify against Johnson to get a deal for lesser charges against them.

Is that where we are ? Have the existing players testify against Johnson so that they can get their charges dropped and get reinstated to play FB ?

How did RU FB get to this place ? None of us fans ever signed up for this IMHO. This is the new low point for RU FB.

It's not "us," as this is between the accused and the Middlesex County DA, who decides whether to pursue a tactic to get one or more to accept a deal and talk. This is outside of RU. Further, these young men likely are already familiar with the legal system. Sad.

No disagreement here. I really admire Flood, he's a great guy but I honestly think the original intention with Flood was for him to be a placeholder. I mean just look at his salary. They had no intention to keep him for more than a few years. I think he was hired to keep the team together and to run a clean program and to AVOID controversy. Unfortunately that hasn't happened.

If they don't fire Flood for this (which I doubt they will), I predict he's gone at the end of the season pending anything less then 8 wins. You know Herman is in contact with multiple coaching prospects as we speak.

I see a lot of misinformation on this board. Just so everyone is clear only Andre Boggs was charged with home invasion. This is unacceptable and expect him to be dismissed/expelled soon.

Nadir Barnwell, Ruhann Peele, Delon Stephenson and Rahzonn Gross were charged with aggravated assault, riot and conspiracy to commit a riot.

"The prosecutor's office said the aforementioned four surrounded a group of at least four other individuals, including a 19-year-old male Rutgers student, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and assaulted them unprovoked on April 25. The student suffered a broken jaw."

The NBPD is throwing a lot of charges at these 4 kids for a fight between 2 groups of people. And they are assuming a lot by saying the fight was unprovoked. People do not fight for no reason, there is always a reason.

So in conclusion, Boggs is gone. And we need to let the legal process play out with the other 4. Obviously Barnwell and Peele were already on thin ice, so this does not look good for them.

It is also very odd for NBPD to decide to arrest them all the same day when the 2 crimes are not related. Every one I spoke to today thought all 5 arrested were committed armed robbery. And that is not true.

Agree with OP. Very odd they were all arrested on the same day. I don't understand that.

Better 5 arrests in one day, than 1 per day over 5 days. It's a brutal day. But cut ties/suspend and move forward without dragging it out.

Not defending any of them. And while I do expect all of them to be gone, this is a good post.

Once again, the reporting was very misleading. They were two unrelated (apparently) incidents. Yet the reports sure made them seem like they were the same if not closely related.

They made it sound like the arrests were made at the Hale center by police surrounding the building. That was not the case.

The timing seems less than merely a coincidence.

Again, we should all expect better - but listen and read carefully.

What the hell happened to innocent until proven guilty?
Nothing happened to it. If any of the accused go to trial, the jurors will owe them a presumption of innocence. No one else does. Certainly not the University.

Peele has had a couple of other incidents and had a bad rep coming out of high school. Strike three. He needs to go. Look forward to some "Ex-RU player R. Peele arrested for...." articles on NJ.com in the next few years.

Barnwell is academically ineligible and already had a DWI. Strike 3 he's gone too.

Boggs has to go, just based on the severity of his crime. He's likely going to jail anyway.

The other two, I'd be willing to see what their history and involvement is.

I think there's a difference from having enough hard evidence to convict someone of a crime and take away their freedom for many years compared to enough evidence to suspend players for taking away the privilege of representing a university and receiving a free ride for 4 years.

For the guys where this is there only single issue since recruitment and were only involved in the 5 on 4 fight, i would suspend while legal process finishes and reinstate if they are cleared.

Some people (including myself) suspect that T. Johnson, who was involved in both crimes, had outed everyone. (JUST GOSSIP DON'T QUOTE ME). I mean it just makes sense. Why else would everyone involved in 2 completely different crimes at two different times be arrested at the same place at the same time months later? Usually these packaged deal arrests are the result of someone snitching. (AGAIN, DON'T QUOTE ME, JUST ME SPECULATING,)

I did not say that charges should be dropped and players should be reinstated. I just wondered if the prosecution is really going after Johnson. By charging everyone with riot are they trying to get Johnson (or someone else) to confess to breaking the injured student's jaw?
They all may be guilty of a crime or they may be guilty of being stupid and hanging out with the wrong people. It is not my place to judge them until they get to tell their story.

Good guess. Except T. Johnson hasn't been charged with the fight.

The connection is Tejay Johnson - and the heavy dose of charges may be to have wiggle room to persuade them to testify against Tejay - since he is the one who could end up with the most charges - but who knows.

I hate to say it, but not a wise decision by these young men to hang out with a guy who's career is done. These guy had a full ride and opportunity to go to the NFL. Meanwhile, they're late hanging out with a player who has a history and his career ended a year ago. Tejay had nothing to lose when it came to football. And yes, I 100% believe someone spoke up. Especially when the riot thing/unprovoked fight is not something that would have been solved. People get jumped on college campuses all the time and no one spends much time on them because you can never find a trace of evidence.

The riot charges seem odd to me. I hasn't heard of anyone else receiving that charge in connection with the Delafield mess. They are trying to make sure these kids don't get out from under all the charges

these kids are never playing for Rutgers again, so don't worry
