For the love of God, please not Golden

Al Golden is a solid backup plan. Proven recruiter of South Jersey....but if RU isn’t hiring a Schiano than they are fooling themselves being in the big ten...

No he isn't not for the current state of RU football. Only one non-major coach has a chance at turning this around and it was Schiano. After that it's gotta be a proven big name and I don't think RU pays.

I wonder what the boosters are saying.

Wait what?

I’ve been on vacation.
Last I knew the OP said Hobbs was out and Schiano was back.
What an interesting few weeks I guess I missed.

Yeah, things change.

The Hobbs matter, btw, is an entirely separate conversation. For the 100th time, Pat's fate is not linked to Schiano.

As for Greg...

There's basically 2 possibilities, here.

The first is that he's asked for more than the BoG is willing to concede and the deal has gone sideways.

The second is that they've reached a stalemate and somebody in the program has floated the "we've reached out to Golden's people" story to warm Greg's seat a little bit. Make him feel like he's not invulnerable.

In evaluating the two possibilities, one must weigh the "Rutgers factor" and allow for the possibility that the second option is a little too "3D chess" for Deal Old Rutgers.

How about deal has been reached and Coach Schiano wants some private time until after Thanksgiving. Respect and keep spotlight on this year’s team.
Speculation or truth? That actually makes LOTS of sense to me...more than the other stuff that has been posted here.

If Greg over played his worth, good luck to him. This would by just like the Dems and the Repubs of today who are just so freaking stupid they can't get past themselves to do something positive. I include Rutgers in the mix. They're an equal party to the calamity.

If so, this school just shows how it never belonged in the bigs. History of frack ups when things mattered.

I am so close to being completely done with this school. Pulling back, more and more each year. Same for Jersey. Teed up and ready to say Goodbye! Nice knowing you.

Breaking news...just read that they've officially moved on from schiano and are reaching out to Ash's people about coming back. However since it would be a new contract they would pay bout the buyout and the new contract...that can't be right could it?

I don't think there is a thread of truth to the Golden rumor and still think Greg will be named.

But if Greg falls through it means only one thing - RU screwed the coaching search once again. When Jones dropped out and the search for anyone else halted it was clear that the initial meetings with Greg resulted a handshake agreement and the RU people involved in that meeting knew what Greg wanted in order to succeed.

The breakdown would only mean one thing - the RU BOG and other influential players who were not involved in the original agreement don't want to commit to B1G sports. It would not be on Greg - but all on the incompetent egg heads that still don't get it. A mistake this time will at best cost millions in tickets sales etc - at worse we are on the way out of the B1G.

Golden would be a fine “safe” hire surrounded by a big money staff.

I feel fairly confident he’d get us bowling so long as he doesn’t hire Mark D’Onofrio as his DC.

Spoke with Golden’s realtor and it looks like he’s in the market for a home in the Martinsville area.

https://juliepogue.com/agent/julie-hermann/

i was waiting for someone to post that link here

meanwhile Julie wanted Golden back in 2015 and it would be so Rutgers for her replacement AD to hire that same coach 4 years later after he hired a major failure

if Greg is not hired, its the end of this program basically. Those that left are not coming back and they will likely lose another 4-5K season ticket holders

Its scorched earth Rutgers and stuff like that will likely bleed to donations across the board and thus all other sports

its do or die time for RUs future in the Big 10. As I said when they entered, the fear was the school just wanted to do the bare minimum to cash the check. We are at the bank ready to set up a direct deposit and turn off the lights

AL Golden's brother is Shaun Golden who is the Monmouth Cty Sheriff. He is rumored to be running against Governor Murphy in the next election.

That would be very interesting turn of events should those puzzle pieces fail into place.

Thanks for the reply and explanation. I appreciate it.
I’m so out the loop. Well guess we will see how they Rutgers this one. Man.

I’m guessing he won’t be demanding a contract into his 60s, a blank checkbook for facilities, and more ecological preserve destroyed for his palace.

If he has the desire to take on this task, and he has a solid plan to do it, then it’s a matter of how much risk he is willing to take on himself instead of pushing onto Rutgers.

Everyone I know personally that has held on to this point has told me they are giving up their tickets if they can't get Schiano hired.

Al Golden couldn’t win the coastal conference despite having talent up and down his roster at Miami.
Plus, hasn’t he been out of football for like 5 years???
This is probably just a funny rumor.

I believe he has been with the NFL Detroit Lions for 3 years...2017, 2018, 2019.

The amazing thing for Rutgers negotiations "ability".... if they lose their all -in golden boy Greg. They've just up'd the cost for (perhaps ) choice number 2 and 3 (Jones and Golden) with this approach. Freaking brilliant move and more evidence there is no supreme wisdom at $750k a year for the AD.

He "locks-in" and goes all-in on his first hand.

He better win cause right now even his #2 sport hire is starting to look just a tad shaky. No panic, but questions will come if no further improvement.
