For the love of God, please not Golden

Would it really surprise you (AT ALL) if ru effed this up?
Seriously. Could you imagine a possibly worse 150th Anniversary year celebration of our Invention of the game than what we didn't do to celebrate and what we (potentially) didn't do to replace our coach this year? POTENTIAL EPIC FAILURE. (and I've seen plenty).

I don't think there is a thread of truth to the Golden rumor and still think Greg will be named.

But if Greg falls through it means only one thing - RU screwed the coaching search once again. When Jones dropped out and the search for anyone else halted it was clear that the initial meetings with Greg resulted a handshake agreement and the RU people involved in that meeting knew what Greg wanted in order to succeed.

The breakdown would only mean one thing - the RU BOG and other influential players who were not involved in the original agreement don't want to commit to B1G sports. It would not be on Greg - but all on the incompetent egg heads that still don't get it. A mistake this time will at best cost millions in tickets sales etc - at worse we are on the way out of the B1G.

There is but Greg is dare I say... "Still in the Mix."

The potential for out-Rutgersing ourselves in the eff-up department is high...impressive really!

I propose we re-visit the Historic Umass Halftime sit-in of the Camby days. IF we haven't hired Schiano by next Friday's game vs. UMASS I propose we reenact and stage a halftime sit in vs. UMASS Basketball game.

If in year 5 or 6 of the Big Ten Rutgers Football is and is on track to be the embarrassment of the league and Rutgers Basketball remains bottom 4ish then regardless of fund raising etc, Pat Hobbs is a complete failure. Sorry to say cause I liked his enthusiasm.

But at Corp we'd call him an Empty Suit.

Plan B

This is the most NJ/Rutgers thing to do. God what a messed up place. Only in Nj can the taxpayers fund a multi billion dollar mall in a damn swamp yet given the chance to make the perception of the flagship university respectable the state balks. Penny wise and pound foolish.

Because its all about pay for play, paybacks, etc. Vs. Anything to do with the bigger state picture. Selfish state driven by local kingdoms, self servicing efforts, and a microcosism of what your federal government has become.

The shame is right or left this crap doesn't work. Sorry for the insert of beurocratic fatigue.

This is a really good post which may, ultimately, prove flawed in only one small way.

So if we’re willing to give Greg $4M/year (PLUS a home, incentives, yada yada yada), with a $5M assistant pool, and a $100M (or whatever) practice facility, but GREG wants more, more, more (despite this being ABOVE AND BEYOND anything anyone here has ever gotten), you wouldn’t consider that “making the necessary investments”???

STOP.
paying him this much is asinine and makes zero sense. I can't imagine anyone not being aghast at this for GS.

How about deal has been reached and Coach Schiano wants some private time until after Thanksgiving. Respect and keep spotlight on this year’s team.
Yea that’s probably what’s happening lol

Who is better positioned to dig us out of this hole at $4M per? I'm concerned that list is very small but I don't immerse myself in HC options like some of you do.

Might as well just drop to the Ivy League then. Golden isn’t the answer. He’s below average at best. Get ready for another decade + of 40 point loses.

i was waiting for someone to post that link here

meanwhile Julie wanted Golden back in 2015 and it would be so Rutgers for her replacement AD to hire that same coach 4 years later after he hired a major failure

Well I was told on occasion that “Julie gets it.”

sorry but a major problem we have, unless the fan base responds, is a BOG that believes that our fan base will not step to the plate financially and support RU athletics like other BIG school fans --the lack of support from State residents, the media and the constant pressure by those who refuse to recognize the value of big time sports always makes the decision to spend controversial--in some respects we get what we sow---let's hope a majority on the BOG is not having difficulty overcoming this negative pressure and that's not the reason for any delay

With all due respect every post you make is about RU fans spending more. How do you know this is what the BOG "believes"?

How do you reconcile the income of $40plus million vs. The $7mm we were getting 5 to 6 years ago vs, the AAC?

How do you reconcile the millions of additional investments fans were making in donations and season tix 5 to 6 years ago vs now?

These dopes can't do basic math and want to put their weak ass decision making ability on your assertion?

The simple fact is income from being in the. B1G plus regaining what we lost last few years is well over plus $50 FREAKING MILLION next few years. Blaming this on fan donations in an era where RU raised 100 million plus the towers thing plus the weight room thing is totally 100% BS.

My fear with Al Golden is that we would not be getting the Temple Al Golden, but the Miami version. I think Al's time has passed. If Al had come from Temple to Rutgers instead of Miami I think he would have been successful, but I don't see an Al Golden removed from college football for many years doing much here now. The fact that after Diaz abruptly quit on Temple they didn't even consider Golden from what I have read should tell you all you need to know.

Saw this story about Matt Rhule and Ryan Day being on his staff.

https://sports.yahoo.com/amphtml/ho...ches-022728107.html?__twitter_impression=true

Rhule is a great motivator....too bad he is destined for a NFL job and Rutgers would have not shot at him.

When Temple rushed for a meager 72 yards against Kent State in 2008, Golden was irate at the impotence.

Rhule responded by setting up the offensive meeting room like a nightclub, with velvet ropes, a red carpet and wearing full doorman attire. He led the players to their seats with a flashlight and had everything but bottle service. When asked why, Rhule responded that they were in Club 72, mocking the run total. The next week, Temple scored 55 points and the club closed.

What the hell has happened that I missed this in the last couple of days? Yes I think Rutgers can do better than Schiano but would go along with his hiring. But Al Golden is not better than Schiano...

GTFOOH WITH THIS BULLSH**!!!!!!

Sorry, but what I say is correct and when only 4500 "actual "fans contributed to our biggest fund raiser effort (EVER) , I know the BOG took notice --you forget 25 million came from the state for "parking" and most from big organizations and big givers , only a relatively small
amount from what I call "actual" fans--the BOG can do math -if you think the Board thinks it won't be difficult to raise another $100-125 mill from the same sources you are dreaming--bond issues and loans like those that were used to build the stadium are politically nearly impossible in NJ and the $ from the BIG you talk about is already earmarked to balance the books--yes our fan base doesn't do our job like other BIG schools, denying that is counter productive and the BOG has a stewardship that you won't recognize

It can’t be golden . He played at penn state for paterno and Sandusky . Star ledger and activist groups will claim he knew
