Friday BLACKOUT vs. Washington

I know that and they have been anything but. Star Wars still screams dork. Needs to end. I am tasking you with coming up with a better and non-Star Wars related nickname for the D. I know you won’t disappoint me.
The D had given up a “whopping” 170 going into the 4th and still only gave up 320 total yesterday DESPITE a brutal sun hitting our sideline all game until late in the 4th quarter, no “cool zone” fans, an O that failed them 4 times in the red zone, and being in a hostile environment. Oh and 2 KEY starters just “getting their feet wet” plus Flip starting as well.

Let’s not kill the D here. I’d almost bet on “The Dark Side” being played into Friday night.

I don’t know the age of anyone on this board and it’s an old Eddie Murphy line from Delirious or Raw. Just message board shenanigans.
I was actually fairly sure it was just good fun- but, this is Beaced...

BTW- you have been on here long enough to know who beaced is...

I was trying to find out the first "blackout" game in college football, and it looks like it was Georgia vs. Auburn in 2007 - but the trend took off in 2008. The LA Kings had tried blackout games in 1998 and 2000 previously. https://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/05/sports/ncaafootball/05blackout.html

PSU's first "white out" was in 2004, but the Winnipeg Jets hockey team had been doing whiteouts for the playoff games since 1987.
And Winnipeg had no NHL franchise between 1997 and 2011. Now you know the rest of the story.

We’re a dork fanbase until we expunge Star Wars. Missed tackles = dark side? Sorry but the expectations were set coming into the year and they aren’t there yet. Not saying they won’t get there, but let’s calm down with the dark side dork stuff.

Hate blackouts. Makes us look like Cincinnati
Couldn't agree more.

Why no “cool zone” fans, did we forget to bring them?

I generally get a good sense of how games will sell based on friends and family demand/interest. This feels like a good (not yet great) crowd. Probably one of the best in a long time but not 2014 type great yet.

Being Friday night in NJ will make for a shortened tailgate and tough travel for nearly all. I expect students to turn up and have a great night.
Sounds on point.

I don't have a strong opinion. But even if you like a blackout less than scarlet, the only thing worse than a blackout is a half assed blackout. So wear black.
Having any color-out game loses it's effect if the actual attendance is only 60% of capacity. If we had 50% in the stadium for Akron, that was generous.

I wonder how many UW fans will show. Have to imagine that east coast transplants will definitely want to come even if they are not as good this year. 5k?
5k sounds like a lot, although I think they'll travel pretty well. It being a Friday night probably hurts that a little.

Gonna be a great environment

Not a chance in hell they have 5K there.
Yeah- that one confused me...And yes, being Friday Night makes it less so. If it was a Sat game- maybe their fans would travel for a chance at a long weekend in NYC. It it isn't like they are a National Brand. Now, if it were Oregon- I think they have built up local followings everywhere, and it would be different.

But, if we do not fill our seats at home against a team that played for a Natty and we are playing well enough to be favored, then it will be very disappointing.

LOL. We opened as 5 point dogs on the road in one of the tougher environments in college football and left with the W. Have a Coke and a smile and stfu.
beaced Always speaks the Truth.BTW. Coke hasn't tasted like coke used to taste for too many years. The young people today are missing the original good flavor of coke and Pepsi And it's their fault for being born so late

I hope my comment was recieved as intended. I was just using a funny quote from an old Eddie Murphy stand up routine. No disrespect intended. I have gray hair so I can remember old Coke!

I think we will be disappointed by the turnout unfortunately. Hope I’m wrong.

What is your disappointment number? Less than 35K, 40K, 45K, or 50K?

If you're disappointed with less than 45K, you'll be wrong. There will be at least 45K in the house on Friday night (as long as the weather is OK, meaning no rain).

Less than 45k actual butts in seats would be a major disappointment and 45k-48k would be minor disappointment. This game really should have a solid 50k with scattered empties and maybe empty corners of upper deck

Just did a quick scan of tickets available on scarletknights.com. There appears to be less than 2,500 tickets remaining. Hence, regardless of whether or not it's a sellout, the atmosphere will be top-notch.

And Friday night’s weather should be great for fans… game time temp in the high 60’s.
We sell out and have 51,000 show up… a few no shows due to early day showers.

FWIW, the NWS (and other forecasters) is not predicting any showers on Friday after about sunrise. Hopefully, there will be zero weather reasons to not attend and a great day to make people want to attend.

You guys realize that we live in a metropolis full of transplants? Of course nobody is flying in from Seattle. You don’t think there are tons of alumni in the NY, NJ, CT, PA area? I have no idea on the amount, but certainly it will be more than 500.
There is more than 500 transplants in the region but if the live in NJ now they are afraid to go especially if they read NJ.com

Was that before or after they included cocaine as a “medicinal” ingredient?!? 😉
