Fumble! ESPN's College Football Championship Ratings Drop 19%

Uninterested.

Disinterested means that you are objective about a situation, do not have a vested interest in the outcome.

I think bama every year has hurt ratings. They're boring to watch.

No real marquee story lines. The heismsn winner in bama also a boring player
What is boring about winning at a very high level? The time for the game probably negatively impacted the audience.

SEC vs ACC? Who gives a damn? The only thing worse was SEC vs. SEC and that dog finally brought about the playoffs.

College Football is for SATURDAY. Put that damn game on Saturday 8pm est, and put the Semi's on the previous Saturday. Move the damn season up a week as well, this game needs to finish on New Years Weekend . Start the season 3rd weekend in August if necessary , most of the early games are non conference anyway. Hell, shorten August camp by 5 days if necessary.

New years eve semi and Championship Mondays are a recipe for disaster. This game needs to be on New Years day or on the Saturday following the semis.
Exactly. I actually turned on the TV Saturday at 8:30 expecting to see the NC game. Oooops. Watched the second half Monday after the kids went to bed. Didn't watch much of the semis. Had better things to do that day. Also way too many bowl games. Got footballed out. Only reason I watched NC game was to see Clepson and Daboo lose.

Novelty factor of being the first championship game was gone, too. I did stay up and watch this year because it was a good game, but was tired the last two days at work from being up at 1230 when I am usually asleep by 11. Having kids and a busy calendar is a factor. I am 45.

Alabama- small market team? You friggin' guys are clueless. What ever happened to being a college football fan? Cripes I'd watch the NC game if it was Toledo v. Wyoming.

These were two outstanding teams, with 2 of the 3 Heisman finalists and the Heisman winner, two intriguing coaches, ardent fan bases, universally accepted as 2 best teams in the country, and they get a meh/ who cares? Sick, just sick.
There are many reasons for ratings decline but it wasn't the match- ups or kick off time. SMH.
We all love college football. Alabama and South Carolina are tiny markets.

From Bloomberg Intelligence

"The ratings decline for the championship match-up on a Monday night with light sports competition may be further evidence of shifting viewing habits."

Why can't anyone in charge not see that people on the east coast are throwing in the towel? Not ONE of the 15 guys I work with, who are major pro and college football fans, watched the national championship. NOT ONE. A few turned it on, but went to bed before the 1st half was finished. I didn't even bother to turn it on. Just went to bed.
I am in the same boat. I will even watch d2 games on tv. However if I to get up at 5:30 to go to work I am not staying up to watch it.

Market have nothing to do with it. As a former Big East member you think you would have learned that by now. Alabama is a tv ratings superstar. The difference in ratings for championship games and normal games is not from local markets. It the casual nationwide vewiers. With poor time slot hurts viewership along with being on a cable network.

Same here....yawn....RU-Texas/Fla/Ga/USC etc would break all rating records..

And some of you are calling for 8 teams. Saying the money is staggering. Too funny! [roll]

I know I didn't watch it because I could give a crap about Clemson and I'm sick of Alabama.

The Monday 8:30 PM EST start doesn't help matters any. There's no reason it can't be played the Saturday of that second weekend of January or even the Sunday since the NFL plays only day games on Wild Card Weekend Sunday. If it was a 7:30 PM EST start on a Sunday it would do wonders for the ratings. The game would be over by 11 PM and the start time matters less for the western and mountain time zones since its a weekend. It would also help to move that game (at least the main feed if ESPN is going to do all these wacky versions of it) to ABC. There's a reason that the Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Finals and most of the Stanley Cup Finals and even the MLS Cup Final are on over-the-air networks, the final game or series gets that kind of interest. The CFP Championship Game should be no different.

I can't believe what I'm reading here. That was one of the best National Championship games in recent history. A seesaw battle up until the last minute of the game. How the heck can anyone say they were not interested in watching the game? I've been saying the following for years; the best football programs are built with elite athletes and top shelf coaching. Both Clemson and Alabama possessed both and subsequently provided us with an exciting football game. Would it have made more sense to play the game on New Year's Day, I don't know? For me it didn't matter because I love college football.
