And no Freeman first half a blessing too.

Why?

Besides giving minutes for other guys to show us something and get some confidence, it also showed what a difference one good player makes.

With both guys starting tomorrow and the role players pumped up, it should be a good show.

PS: Goode is an amazing shooter, best and purest stroke since Douby and Mitchell. On all his makes (2-3 from the field, 4-4 from the line), nothing but net.

im not sure we can take too much from that game except Freeman needed to play to bail us out in the 2nd half which opened the game up for some others like Williams and Goode to play better. The first half was atrocious and they didn't step up as a team until Freeman came in

GRF, sample size of 7. You can also judge a shooter by his touch at the line.

Bac, that's my point about what a difference one player can make on the play of the whole team. Now add Sanders and it could be fun.

Not saying we're world-beaters, but I believe this team will be fun to watch and root for.

I believe I read that Justin Goode shot over 90% on free throws his last year in high school. He played the most minutes of anyone Friday night, 30 minutes. I still remember when we signed him there were several guys ripping RU to pieces for taking a guy who had very few offers. They basically said he would be a non contributor and some said he would most likely be gone after a year. Some said it was a waste of a scholarship. There was even one guy who was speculating in early summer that he wouldn't return. Where are those guys now? He looks to me like he will get some serious minutes this season. You can see he can shoot and that he knows the game.

Wasn't RU-Newark a D3 team? If so this game showed nothing other than what our (lack) of talent level may be.

It's only one game against a decent D3 opponent, but Goode looked like he could be a very important contributor to the team. He has a very smooth and accurate stroke, which obviously is something this team has sorely lacked for a long time. Goode showed good Bball IQ and enough athletic ability to play his role as a shooter at the D1 level. I am excited to see what he can do against better competition. I hope his teammates eventually get the concept of reversing the ball quickly back to him because he was open for alot of 3's if they had done that.

Call me crazy (Mike, you crazy SOB!...lol) but Goode reminds me of former Notre Dame guard Chris Quinn. Sweet stroke, sound fundamentals. Of course, Quinn was a highly sought-after recruit. RU was Goode's only major offer.

It will be interesting to see how he develops. Jordan might have found a diamond in the rough. Time will tell.

I agree Mike. Seems like Boeheim's Syracuse teams always had a role-player like that too, a guy who was lights out from behind the arc and from the charity stripe. And the patented Boeheim zone helped cover any defensive deficiencies of those valuable shooters, so hopefully EJ will use that strategy as well.

Also, with Sanders, you have a guy that will find a way to get Goode the ball in a position to catch and shoot. Could be very interesting and fun to watch that chemistry develop.
