Ron Harper is going to be a very very good Rutgers player as was his NBA dad.Hard for me to read bac's long summaries, so I do the cliff notes version, lol. I don't think it's been emphasized enough how big Harper's defense on Stevens was. It was huge and a big, big key to the win. He wanted to guard Stevens, possibly to get NBA scouts to notice since Stevens will probably be a second rounder, but regardless, Harper offensively, but especially defensively, was tremendous. Also, I've been down on Mathis due to his offensive limitations and poor decision making, but his decision making has been much better the last few games and he had a solid game last night. If he could only make foul shots and develop a jumper. His defensive, which is just as good as everyone else on the team, is not so good as to override his limitations, imo.
This was definitely Paul's best defensive game yet. He was active with his dig downs, had a few blocks, and seemed to be in the right pace more often than not. This is something I was most concerned about come B1G play but the Kid just seems to get it. He'll never be a lockdown defender but as long as hes servicabile he will be a legend here.Passing tests. We passed another one vs. PSU. This was arguably the best team we have played to date. No slight to Seton Hall, they were without their second best player and Powell did get hurt. Penn State is a legit team playing well coming in. We passed the test.
Paul M. played very well on help defense. Got his hands on balls and disrupted play. Its coaching and basketball IQ. Our transfer Jacob Young gained confidence in the Caldwell game and has kept it going, he is huge now especially with Geo sidelined.
Each game another player steps up. 12-12 from RHJ from the line and confidence to be the man.
Most of the rest BAC covered, good job as usual.
On to the next.
Pike is also learning to manage Young. There was a point in the second half where he made two consecutive, out of control bad plays. Pike sat him down for a few minutes to settle him down and then reinserted him.
Another point I didn't see mentioned... I love how a couple early timeouts Geo huddled the five players together on court coming out of timeouts as if he was still suited up to play. You can't teach leadership.Read it - it's good stuff. Nice job bac. Feels good eh? Supposedly Geo gave a passionate halftime speech - pretty cool.
Other observations:
1. Our other big wins we jumped out to be leads, this time we came from behind.
2. Won a game when we didn't shoot or play particularly well for stretches but it never got away from us either.
3. Paradoxically, we won a game when we shot free throws well.
4. Love Young, Mathias and Harper attacking the hoop. All three won the game for us.
5. If we had made one or two additional threes, we might have blown the roof off the RAC.
6. Irony? The three by Mathias was the shot of the game.
7. Harper foul shooting was brilliant.
8. Mulcahy and Young have improved by leaps and bounds over the winter break.
9. Think Yeboah is the one player slightly struggling.
10. Thought Caleb had a bit of a rough game and then read stats and realize he had a very good game short of scoring.
11. Rebounding, rebounding, rebounding. And cut down early turnovers.
12. Miles stayed out of a foul trouble and Carter had a nice game. Miles solid per usual.
13. A great win when everybody contributes.
14. Slight disagreement with BAC, as loud as any game in the Gary Water's era. You can't get rid of 118 and another packed 250 people in one area and expect the same noise.
15. Illinois will be tough. Like the fact its early morning. Maybe catch them sleeping. Do we want them to win a tough one before us like PSU beating Iowa?
funny, I remember a few times he went out of his way to do exactly the opposite and it sounded kinda weird. I know he thru a bunch of Dadika stuff in there and even apologized for it.PSU fans complain Wenzel used "we" and "us" when describing the action and results of Rutgers against State Penn. :Laughing
Hope there will be more to come to take its place. It was a hell of a game.Best review of the year!!!
I did and always do.
Bad joke!
That's great - caught on TV or live (I didn't notice on TV and don't look at the bench much during the game)?1 thing from game I forgot.....
Luke Nathan pretend crying while Stevens was complaining to refs. :Laughing

live...boo hoo.
On a separate note I like how the ref interacted with Stevens. If a call is close or possibly you fear you got it wrong what's the harm of giving a player slack and/or listen to his complaints.
I loved when there was a ball tipped out of bounds and the ref called Penn state ball and quickly said my bad, Rutgers ball to delightful of 8000.One time the ref delayed our taking a second free throw for quite a while while he spoke to Stevens or Watkins over their foul call. It seemed like it was taking too much away from our momentum at the time.
How did the ref interact with Stevens?
He listened to his complaints, and had a conversation with him. People were yelling for a T, but Stevens wasn't really that animated. Ref handled it well, but announcers said it was the wrong ref (idk if true).
Oh yeah, I remember that now. Thanks Ohio!
I was one of the crazy nuts yelling for a T!!
don't blame you, I would have too. I am saying this 2 days later. at the time I was also yelling for a T lol
