GAME 21 Purdue: Awakening the Sleeping Giant

Something to consider since we have fans just taking a 5 second stat heard and running with it, out of context.

"RU is 13th out 14 for 3 pt shooting %

Well, if you look at it closer, one would think RU is lagging way behind the rest of the B1G....it's eye opening to see how close RU is to most of the B1G and how "quick takes" can fool fans.

30.9 % RU
34.5 % MSU
33.6 % Wisc
30.9 % Indy
33.8 % Neb
33.1 % Pur
32.3 % NW
32.3 % Min
35.2 % Iowa
31.9 % MD
31.3 % Illini
31.9 % PSU
38.2 % OSU
34.2 % MICH
I looked at the 3pt % in conference games only at bigten.org. We are 9th at 32.1%, 54 out of 168. If we made 55 of 168, we would be 7th. Such a small change. Michigan is dead last at 27.6%.

Our 3pt% on defense is 3rd in the league at 28.7% despite some saying we leave guys open too much.

Michigan is also dead last in overall FG% defense at an astounding 47.4%.

They're too lazy to take the subway to msg too. Our North Jersey/NYC fans are awful (if anyone has a problem with what I'm saying, prove me wrong and pack msg)
Hopefully they just make a whole day of it but you're at least partially right

So Michigan cant shoot the 3 and is the worst defensive team on top of missing possibly their best 2 players... people predicting Michigan as the favorite in the other thread. Just craziness. This game could be a blowout

Scangg I'm buying a round for you as well.
I live in San Diego now so unfortunately I moved away right before Rutgers started turning it around. Got my dad tickets for his bday so he will be there though representing the family!

I had to use a lot of PTO but I'll be there for the B1G or NCAA tournament and would love to meet some of the posters for a beer or two or three or four

Do you golf? I have a time share in San Diego and have a bunch of tee times booked at Torrey when I am out there towards the end of March.

I won't say blowout but the more I look at the stats, the more I will be disappointed if we lose on Saturday. I think bac was the one who pointed out teams often play better than expected in their first game without a key guy. Well, that game happened and now we have game film of how they switched things up without Simpson. If he is out again, we should be ready for what they will try to do. Obviously we need to bring the energy and pound nails, but I think this is our game to lose.

I used to golf years ago. I have clubs but never really golf now. I've been meaning to get back into it. I would be down to hit up Torrey though but I'll probably be pretty terrible out there haha

Excellent recap Bac.

Stephen Bardo(who is absolutely tremendous) made an excellent point late last night that Rutgers is vastly underrated on offense. He said we have excellent wings that are very versatile that all can score and to go along with Myles, makes us tough to defend.

Best of Luck,
Groz

I think it is kinda simple really.. other than another team just beating us with superior talent.. we just have to be smart..

-Myles has to avoid the throw-away fouls waaay outside the lane.
-Everyone has to rebound
-We need to run and score in transition
-if forced into a half-court O we need to be patient and have the personnel out there to work that (PM).. and when that doesn't work bring in YOUNG to force the pace.
-Defend the 3 to even the 3-point shooting deficit
-Hit more front-ends

We have seen what is possible with 100% effort.. they have shown us many times...

This team will decide how far they go.

Excellent article once again BAC but the 107-57 beat down was only 4 years ago not 5. It was on January 18, 2016. I wrote about this a few days ago in another Purdue thread on how Purdue played volleyball on the backboards by out rebounding us like about 50-20. Mike Williams guarded a 6'11" guy and Omari Grier guarded a 6'10" guy. We only dressed 7 scholarship players and I think our tallest guy was 6'7" in that game as Greg Lewis was out among others. The 2 seats next to my son and I were sold to two Purdue fans who were hollering all night long and laughing at RU. Purdue didn't even play 3 guys who were dressed to play on the bench. They ran up the score big time on us. It might have been the most upset I ever was at an RU game. I told this to Coach Pikiell at the end of Monday's practice. He was well aware that Purdue beat us by 35 last year at Purdue. I just hope we can win on Saturday. I will be there and I am looking forward to the game.
