- Ash needs a season himself to get some game experience because some of his decisions have been questionable (timing of timeouts, putting in Allen..etc). He also looks frazzled on the sideline, could just be the way he normally is haha. For a guy who is known to be organized and has great detail to attention, I expected better game management

- I questioned some of Mehringer's play calling last week but it was definitely much better this week...can't wait until we get the proper QB under center for this offense

- The obvious...Laviano is horrendous...I'm sure he lights it up in practice but during the game, he looks like he forgets everything. He has 24 rushing yards in total this season...defense's clearly not scared of this option offense.

- Not seeing Gio in this game was a little upsetting because these 2 games was our least riskiest time to see how he handles himself with the full playbook/throwing...moving forward into B1G play, I feel like this staff is going to stick with Laviano

- FEED MARTIN and keep the ball away from Laviano's hands...I think we can solve these slow starts by feeding him consecutively...defenses already see us as one-dimensional so why not embrace that for the first few snaps which hopefully opens up the passing game once Laviano and the rest of the offense settles down

- Our corners/safeties definitely look much better even if some big plays were given up...hoping Hampton is back soon

- DLine pressured for once and looked great for a majority of the game! Also, great to see Kemoko in full gear...we need a quick edge rusher desperately

- Heard Greg Jones name a lot on TV...not sure how the rest of the LB group did

- Crowds looked good on TV and so did the student section...didn't really pay attention to it towards the end though

- Excited by all our freshmen playing...speaks to our lack of talent and depth but still great to see them getting experience

- Aside from the short kickoffs, special teams looked good

Anyone hear injury updates on Sebastian Joseph or Lawrence Stevens?

LB play needs to improve... In my book, it's accounted for many of the big plays we've given up.......

Three points.....

1. Agree that Ash seems less than poised as this is his first rodeo as a HC, but that said, attention to detail =/= better game management....see Exhibit A: Schiano. Maybe the long sleeves in the warm weather contributing to that, Ash seems way over-dressed but as long as he's comfortable he can do what works for him.

2. The other 'aside' for special teams was Grant's muff on the opening drive punt by NM. Turned into 7 pts right away. Given our slow 1st Qtr starts, that's something Rutgers can't afford. But Grant has earned a mulligan and he redeemed himself big-time with the punt return for TD in the 2nd Qtr.

3. Crowd didn't look very good at all for kickoff.

Grant is amazing, hope he gets in Hall of Fame just for his special teams work.

Saw it was the #5 play on espn

Something to keep an eye on as we move into tougher play. Because of the lack of depth, very few of our 2 deep are playing on ST's. Most of the kickoff and return teams are made up of walkons and freshman. Previous years we had 1's and 2's on these ST's

LB's unsure of them yet but Jone's played an almost perfect game.as discipline as I have ever seen. Multible times he could have gone with instincts and went for QB with ball just a yard away but instead, took his guy, the trailing RB thus taking away the option and trusting his teammates to do their job. Beautiful thing to watch.

Harris is a player- worried he gets drafted for MLB next year. Let's use him a lot this year.
JPO is a beast.

Slow starts killing us but coaching adjustment have been great!

1. Yeah, the crowd was pathetic on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Hopefully Iowa brings out some casual fans next week.

2. Our kickoff coverage team is the worst I've seen in years. The KOs could surely be better (most landing around the 5 yard line), but it seems like every KOR reaches between the 30 and 40 yard line. Not good. This needs to be cleaned up, as giving our B1G opponents short fields like that is going to kill our defense.

3. Laviano has indeed been bad -- he just yipped several easy throws yesterday, so we're leaving positive yardage on the field. Positive bright spot is that he didn't have any turnovers, and smartly threw the ball away when there was nothing there.

4. But our WRs are not getting separation, so they're not making Laviano's job any easier.

5. Our defensive depth is now more of a problem than we even feared, with Hampton, Douglas, and now Clayton out. Our back 7 will get carved up by the better B1G teams.

6. Our DL is starting to show why it was considered the strength of our defense. Hamilton, JPO and Joseph were beasts yesterday, and we are also getting solid contributions from Lambert, Nash, Wilkins and Davis.

Could Grant have had the Sun to contend with on that misplay?

Degaz- we are using walkons and freshman mostly on ST's so starters won't get hurt. This is a depth problem. It may not get better this year but Ash is looking at the long term so I am ok with it

Under MLB rules a collegiate player cannot be drafted for three years. The earliest Harris can be drafted is 2018. He will be at RU next year. Although I guess he could decide that baseball is his meal ticket and therefore give up football.
