Game Thread: RU vs Stony Brook, 7pm, RAC, BTN+, story:

This loss is a good thing. Everyone was getting way ahead of themselves after SHU win. Still a long way to go..but getting there.

A good thing? Really? That makes no sense at all.

I believe it’s good. Again, team was talking about dancing all week cause of one game. Team is extremely flawed offensively and think it’s a good thing that they experience s “bad loss”

That’s just backwards logic in my opinion. If they play bad and find a way to win, that’s a good thing. If they play bad and lose, that’s a bad thing.

I’d agree if the program and team were top tier, and we were realistically fighting for a tourney bid.

When you are building a program, playing very easy teams out of conference, it’s good to get a loss as s barometer of where the team really is at.

Extremely frustrating but this team is only good when it gives 100% effort and this loss might be a wakeup call. Effort and Hustle is this teams identity. I know pike went with a smaller lineup down the stretch but some of those offensive boards are just disturbing

And I know this isnt what anyone wants to hear, but the amount of frustration everyone has at this loss shows how far we have come. We take these for granted, didnt exactly under Eddie Jordan

LOL what? Well, in that case, bang up job and looks like we’re headed in the right direction.

Not possible. The guy is John Wioden incarnate.
Horrible coaching job. Horrible job by the players. Team flat as a pancake. Three times during the last 2 minutes they could not inbound the ball. Wake up coach and design an inbound play. Freeman stopped playing defense because he had 4 fouls. This lead to one easy paint basket after another for SB at the end of the game and OT. Coach, tell him not to worry about fouling out and keep playing hard on defense. Also, Sanders did not once use his "NBA talent" to drive the basket. Foul shooting was pathetic. Loss was a real buzz kill. RAC will be empty again until they get a BG10 win.

They played awful but even UNC lost to Wofford. Bad games happen. We know we have the capability to beat a good portion of the Big Ten.

Orange just lost to st Bonnie. It happens. Particularly when your shoot 40% from the line.

If there's any good to come of tonight's loss, it's that the team needs maximum effort all 40 minutes and that even against supposed lesser teams they must come to play. They can't turn it on in the last 5 minutes and expect to win....
they should have learned this lesson LOONG ago. The minutes Freemna, Sanders, and Williams have played ..we are NOT a young team. Just a very immature one.

It's one thing to lose when the other team is making great plays to beat you. RU beat themselves in every way imaginable tonight. Pike may have had his worst coaching performance since arriving. No intensity or hustle from the players. Abysmal FT shooting. Getting out rebounded by a smaller team.

Offense clicked tonight when it went through Geo. I just didn't understand some of the personnel decisions tonight. I'll trust the coaches but tonight really left a sour taste in my mouth.

Team shot like 43% tonight. Was the offense the issue with 15seconds left and the ball?

Bad loss tonight. I think what you were trying to say is that sometimes a bad loss motivates a team like ours to look in the mirror and quit taking lesser teams for granted. Hopefully this loss is the motivation we need to starts a long winning streak, which would be a good thing. Otherwise, losing to a 4-8 Stoney Brook team is not a helpful step in the rebuild. Certainly not how Pike drew it up tonight.

when you have no consistency and dynamic offensive talent you cannot afford to come out and play flat, lazy and, stupid.

I was really looking forward to an above .500 record for this season. Not sure that's in the cards any longer. This certainly won't help recruiting.
Team has no margin for error because of the inconsistency on offense .Missed foul shots, inability to finish around the basket and allowing Stony Brook to tie the score with 7 seconds remaining in the game and Rutgers had a five point lead.Totally unacceptable performance from beginning to the end of the game .All the positive perception after the Seton Hall win was flushed down the toilet after this abysmal performance tonight. Its a sad reminder of previous seasons where Rutgers had embarrassing losses at the RAC.

the difference is Rutgers can't afford those losses. UNC no one will remember

exactly. we were just getting some real positive "Rutgers may have turned the corner press"...followed up by this. Coach of the week, Metro Player of the week, Team of the week...yeah..ok. Nice follow-up. You just can't do this when you are playing to exercise the rep. and earn back some respect.

This whole thread, from the beginning to end, was all about how bad we were playing. Regardless of what the outcome was..We played bad tonight. I think it’s very good and very teachable that finally our bad play had consequences. We played bad in spurts in many games..but were fortunate to play an easy schedule that we overcame it. Couldn’t overcome the bad play tonight. And i think that’s good.

It’s not good we played bad. But it’s good we got the outcome we deserved. Move on.

Every program on the way up has 3-5 of these games across 2-3 seasons....welcome to the club, eventually it would be time for one...whether it's PSU up 4 with 22 seconds vs Rider and losing at buzzer at home.

It's 30 games to look at the steps taken...RU has to look at the league games at 10-12 Stony Brook and S HU type battles...you can't get all of them

This loss was awful, the way we lost was worse than awful.
Do we get the what did you expect excuse next from some of you
The lame excuses never end and fans wonder why Rutgers has been a bottom tier program for decades. There must be accountability placed on the coaching staff and the players for this abysmal performance. The goal for a winning season has just got more difficult and there is no margin for error with this team.Stony Brook wins this game on the road by better rebounding and foul shooting.I doubt many fans would believe that would happen.

UNC can sustain a loss to Wofford...RU as a program cannot afford these kind of losses if it wants to take the next step. Losing is part of the process in getting there but we have been here before too. There is no bright side of this lost

On the other hand you can't realistically expect you are never going to have these. This was a perfect storm let down game. Let's see how things play out before you all slit your wrists.

we may lose because of our poor shooting but nobody will outwork Rutgers. well if you get outplayed and lose, shake hands and move on. When you follow up a game like beating #15 in state rival with not really being into playing your coaches ex team on your home court...wow. just a turd. a big Rutgers turd. good night.
