Geo baker to RU

This is the type of player RU really wanted....he's talented enough to play early and contribute and fits the profile of putting in the work on both ends of the court.

I would never say one recruit outweighs another on the scale of what you did or didn't get, but Baker can arguably be as dynamic a two way guard as the guard we landed and ultimately decommitted in Kwe Parker, who eventually signed with Tennessee.....similar style games in HS, explosive scoring potential, Parker just carried an enormous start and athleticism to his HS career prior to his injury and may get back to that level.

If you land an Alvarado, with the deeper number of schools now pursuing him and line up these guards for 2017, if you somehow retained or kept Sanders through his sophomore season and into his junior year, you have at least the backcourt intact, with the upperclassmen of Sanders, Johnson and Mike Williams in place....if you land Alvarado and Sanders has an outstanding season this year and decides to depart for whatever reason, you still have 4 talented guards to work with, two seniors and potentially two freshman (Alvarado and Baker).

Now you can pour all the energy into keeping Baker intact and towards landing Alvarado, RU is then set up to manage a decent move to an above .500 status, which hasn't happened in almost a decade. If Alvarado decides to land elsewhere, you are still in great shape to start with Baker regardless.....Great job by Karl Hobbs and Brandin Knight, already paying dividends on the recruiting trail.

Need kids who can shoot, too many brick layers the last 10 years or so.

Glad you chose Rutgers Geo.
Seeing Kansas St offered I feel it was a matter of time before other major programs offered
and Geo committing might be showing Pikiell and his staff are going to be bringing enough talent to the RU MBB program to make it a good one.

Sanders will be placed in a very similar situation to Isiah Whitehead. Sanders is a true pg though, Whitehead was undecided.

Both I think will make the move. If I was to get a raise and a good company, similar package, I would make the move, too.

From the new article on the main page here it states that Geo is recruiting his friend Cole Swider a 2018 6'7" wing from Rhode Island, 4 stars according to 247.

And with that, Boom!

Good friends trying to get other friends on board. That is what I like to call a buy one get one deal.

Welcome Geo! I like his film. Good get. Looks like he can be a piece and he has some upside. I am with RU_Dio as well. This kid Cole Swider though is difference maker. If we were to land him we would be in business. T

They'll get this kid in the weight room and put 15 pounds of muscle on him right away. Looks like he can play 1 or 2, will have to make some adjustments but looks like a keeper. Real good start to the 2017 class.

Interesting, I was wondering about that. Geo has been described as a PG by most, some said combo. I have seen him listed anywhere from 6'1" - 6'3". Guess he is still young and growing. Would be nice to get Alvarado and have two more than capable ball handlers on the court at the same time.

On the Scout board, the article had him at 6'4", which would be great if true. It sounds like he might be doing some recruiting of his own now.

First in..nice . Welcome to the Banks.

(Support the staff folks! That's why we got 'em)

Good stuff Richard, and thanks for the link ScarletLI, great job by the staff seeing a priority recruit and sealing the deal.

Listed as 6-3 means probably 6-1. Not goi ng to move the needle in the B1G. Great if still coaching Stony good for A-10 desperate if in B1G

I know nothing about the kid apart from what's on the recruiting pages. But, the lack of big time offers makes me at least a little wary. Gotta trust this staff and assume they've found a diamond in the rough.
Hoops offers I believe are different than football offers. There are many really quality players who don't play at top-shelf schools. That is what makes the Big Dance so exciting.

Fair point. I think that is especially true for guards. The big men are more scarce and almost never escape the notice of top programs. By contrast, there are a number of P5 quality guards playing for mid-majors, as we've seen all too often in OOC games at the RAC. Hopefully, Baker is one of those. I like his tape!

Thanks Coach and Talent Evaluator Extraordinaire . Good to see comments from guys that are better at evaluating talent than Brandin Knight, the coach that saw him play and made him a priority.

Thanks DoubleFlyer.

Under the radar kid looking for a challenge.

Coach Knight saw me play and was supposed to leave for another tournament,” Baker recounted. “He stayed to keep watching me play.”

They hit it off immediately. Knight, who came out of Seton Hall Prep in the 1990s with a chip on his shoulder after being passed over by New Jersey’s high-major programs, saw a little of that in this 6-foot-2 combo guard from New Hampshire.

“Coach Knight told me that he was basically in the same position as me,” Baker said. “He was an underdog when he was recruited. He said he sees a lot of himself in me.”

Like mentioned, I think Geo will play more of an off guard spot. I am very happy to have his point guard vision on the floor with another guard. That will really help us spread the ball, get the better look.

Many of our fans just love to be negative. Why can't we just welcome our new players and wish them the best instead of always criticizing the player or our staff's evaluation?

It's almost like people think the only way to show that they have some basketball knowledge is to be overly critical. Just wait until the season starts.....they'll be back in full force.....unfortunately.

Just watched his video. Seems to have a good handle and I like his stroke as well as his jump back jumper. Let's hope he signs in November. Would hate to see him "blow up" in his final senior scholastic season and then have a blue blood steal him.

Probably the 3rd time I have commented on this thread. Every video I see, I become more excited we landed this caliber of player. Very skilled on set shots, and off the dribble. For those wondering, he looks to be about 6 2.

When he is a freshman, he will play with a senior nigel johnson,a senior Mike williams,a junior jonathan laurent. All very exciting. Not to mention Thiam, and maybe his friend Swinder.

That is a very optimistic view of a kid that most B10 schools probably would not even offer a scholarship too.

No doubt Rutgers upgraded it's staff but that doesn't mean every player they land is suddenly a B10 caliber player ready to make RU a top B10 school.

Plain and simple, Baker will improve our team. We have to become a mid-level B1G team before we can become a top B1G team. Baby steps, my man, baby steps...

Funny how you state openion as fact. You have no idea if any other B1G teams would have offered over time. We shall see how good he is but only time will tell that story.

Since my name is not Nostrodamus I will await his arrival to the RAC before I compare him to anyone .I am just glad he will be part of a new and hopefully improved culture.

Not necessarily. K-State under Bruce Weber has handed out scholarship offers like they were free Wendy's Frosty gift cards. Sort of like Josh Pastner regularly did at Memphis.
