This violation is so minor it pains me to see it as news. Look at the major issues at UNC, Notre Dame, etc. No coaches were fired. This is so stupid and the people making it more than it is are even worse. Please stop calling yourselves "fans". Flood made a mistake. People are not perfect and are allowed to make mistakes. Please go find another team to follow. We really do have the worst fans in the nation. I am sick and tired of this bull. I hope you all have a great night with your "perfect" lives.

I agree with you.

These people are demonizing Flood for the simple reason that he hasn't won enough games and they see this as a way to can him to get a coach that will win more games.

People aren't really mad at him for email gate, they're mad at him because he's not a winner like Urban Meyer.

For me it has little to nothing with his win loss record. For me it has more to do with how clueless and blindsided he has looked over the last 6 months. I thought he was growing into his role but now I think he is a bumbling idiot that is in way over his head. You can not be this clueless as a CEO of a program to not know how to handle the situations thy have presented themselves. Not even talking about recruiting or coaching I am talking about simple maintenance, logistics, operations and compliance.

What are the major issues at Notre Dame? Are you comparing 4 kids who were put on academic probation to now 7 RU players arrested?

Probably the kid that got killed at practice, or the girl who got raped by a football player, and then threatened by other football players not to report it. No punishment in either case iirc, they paid off the managers family not to sue or disclose anything.

So again a kid who died at practice 5 years ago who wasn't a player is being compared to RU players getting arrested. I don't get it?

First off, let's stop with the "fans" crap, okay? There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with supporting the program, above-and-beyond all imagination, and not supporting a particular coach, sorry. Now, with that being said, I think some of you guys are seriously missing the gist of everybody's anger right now. Bottom line is he didn't "make a mistake." He made a series of mistakes, one on top of another, and quite a few full-well knowing what he was doing was, well, wrong:

- the sheer stupidity of events - if you follow the timeline - that could have been avoided by a 5-year old, rather easily, is freakin' mind-numbing. The fact that the man blew off courses he was supposed to take to ensure he knew what to do/what not to do; the fact that he sent an e-mail he wasn't supposed to send; the fact that he was told NOT to have ANY more contact with ANY professors, regarding grades, after said e-mail had been reported to the academic group; the fact that he continued to do so after that and set up a face-to-face with a professor; the fact that he tried to "sneak" around things AND was stupid enough to admit as much, in e-mails, as to why he was sneaking around and then, finally, the fact that he attempted to have a meeting "incognito," on top of all this other idiotic shit.

Now, you put this mound of stupidity, on top of the mound of crap HIS program has been dealing with re: off field events, and, BAMM, people quite undeerstandably are pissed and/or want him gone.

Yes, each event, in-and-of-itself, isn't world-ending, I'll be the first to admit that but even Flood himself, in his presser Monday, stated "I'm well aware that this reflects poorly on me and it should (or something very similar...)," so, at least he's man enough to, essentially, admit this is HIS problem.

It sucks, it really does, but it is what it is and, lumped all together with everything this athletic department has dealt with the last 10 years or so, well, it's "worst toilet in all of Scotland" bad for OUR program/department/university.

(If you don't get the reference, I beg you, look it up, one of the best "cult classics" ever, I promise!)

I am a fan of Rutgers university. I am not a fan of a man who circumvents the risk management protocols put in place & puts the risk of the whole university's reputation in danger to get a common criminal a D in Theatre Appreciation 4 months after he failed it. I am not a fan of paying a man $950,000 to essentially be a tutor.

Probably more the girl who was raped and threatened by football players not to report it. But also there was wrongdoing in the kid killed as well. It's all well documented.

I wish this "urban legend" that Lizzy Seeberg was raped by Prince Shembo would go away. She was not raped. She claimed in the police report that he touched her breast while they were making out and a couple of days later reported it to the school. This was why the alleged offence was sexual assault and not rape. This was a girl who had been on medication since High School for depression and had twice attempted suicide previously.

What about the Uva lacrosse player who killed the other lacrosse player, after already having known anger issues?

Let me guess, you were celebrating the national championship that was won?

I don't condone what Flood did but let's face it, some people here are being hypocritical. If Flood won the Big 10 last year most RU fans would be up in arms over this suspension. While therr are some sticklers for the rules, and what Flood did was stupid and desperate, it was still relatively minor by College football standards. It's about winning plain and simple.

If Flood won the Big Ten last year, other schools would pressure the NCAA to act on his ridiculous 'undercover' behavior. The fact that he's so incompetent means other schools are happy for him to get a slap on the wrist and remain our coach.

That's actually the point. Flood hasn't been a great coach at Rutgers, but what he sold that distinguished himself from other programs was a clean program. I was proud of the 8-5 season, particularly since I believed we had a coach that was going to do things the right way. Well after reading the report and all the other news surrounding this train wreck, IMO that part of it is now gone and so all we're left with is his coaching ability - yikes.

Stop with the nonsense. Many on this board enjoyed getting on their moral soapbox and criticizing other programs over off field and academic stuff. Now it hits home and suddenly everyone wants to act like an adolescent ...."what about them! what about them!". RU brought this on themselves. I was in full support of Flood as HC and never on this board have I advocated firing because of the on field record or the ridiculous "recruiting rankings"...which some think are a fire-able offense. However, my opinion has changed based on the all the arrests and this academic issue which is fairly serious in my opinion. The football program's reputation as a pretty clean, academically serious and hardworking entity has been destroyed over the last 2 weeks. As an alum, that bothers me more than anything...including wins and losses ..which I can deal with. Time to change course and hopefully that occurs by the end of the year. PS....I'm a excellent fan of RU football...I just don't live in a dream world like many.

Because those portable tower units are not built for high winds and he shouldn't have been there. You could make a case it was criminal negligence.

"In the first message, timestamped 3:22 p.m., Sullivan wrote, "Gust of wind up to 60mph well today will be fun at work... I guess I've lived long enough :-/."

The second message, which was sent at 4:06 p.m., less than an hour before his tragic fall at 4:50 p.m., reads, "Holy f*** holy f*** this is terrifying."

What you got now, Hooeagle?

This is a joke. North Carolina provided illegal classes for many football & basketball players and other athletes for over a decade and they still have not suffered one bit. They should receive the death penalty and the coaches should have been fired ages ago. The NCAA makes a fortune as does ESPN off of UNC as well as the entire ACC. They will only get a slap on the wrist. Where is the justice? It has been reported that many think nothing will be done to UNC until after the 2016 Final Four as UNC is rated as one of the top four teams coming into this coming season. It seems as if the NCAA is afraid to go after any of the major teams in football or basketball. How many years does it take to investigate a case?

Forget his integrity, which has been shredded regardless how you spin it, he's a terrible HC. No justification on Earth to keep this guy now.

Agree that UNCs 2 decades (or more) of academic fraud should be a clear reason why both football and basketball programs should have received a multi-year death penalty.

However, UNC's farce doesn't have anything to do with what RU has gone thru over the last 2 weeks (and now dating back to the late Spring/Summer).

zappa I am not a troll and I usually don't post much, but this has got me fired up so I wanted to vent. I do respect you as a fan and your opinions, but please lay off the troll crap. I absolutely agree that he should be punished, for knowingly violation school policy. I did not read that he was incognito or that he was sneaking around, so not sure why someone thinks that. He openly agreed to meet the professor although he was told not to. I get that. I am just disappointed in the fans who put all of the arrests and everything else on Flood. He made his mistake and is paying for it. The kid was not a known criminal at the point that Flood was trying to help, so get off your horse on that comment. Also he is a coach of young men at an Academic Institution and not a CEO. And I am not trying to compare this to other school issues, just trying to put the crime and time served in perspective. Flood's academic miscue is minor and is coming out right after it happened. It is not like UNC or Notre Dame in that it was covered up by the school, coaches, players, etc. Our school is handling it properly, imo. I'm tired of fair weather fans, people who think they could do better, people who think he should be fired for a minor violation. People who are no where to be found when things are good, but are out here judging once the shit hits the fan. This is why college football will never be big in this state. The fans are pro fans who want the college team run like a business and don't give a damn about the academic side, or the fact that these are young men and not seasoned pros, or that the coach is not just there to coach but try to turns boys into men.

If Flood didn't know Barnwell had a good chance of being prosecuted and suspended he had no business coaching a P 5 football team.
He would be s coach with his head in the sand

That is all hearsay. None of us know what if any information anyone outside of the police had on these kids. So to assume that is silly. This is not Alabama where the whole state would be involved in the cover up, and the cops would personally meet with the coach to let him know of the situation. This is jersey where people love to blind side each other. The cops here would not reveal anything until the investigation is done as they would be too afraid to get skewered by our media.

Not true…Flood reported the incident personally, if he doesn't have enough of a coach/player relationship to find out what current players potentially could have been affected he's an idiot.

I agree. Take it a step further beyond coach/player relationship. Coach/staff relationship where was the staff member that is in charge of security/public relations etc... I know he has one because I have met him. He is the one that maintains relations with the local community to make sure the kids stay in line. Where was his advise on all of the early indications in he spring of a problem in the locker room (student altercation).

We don't have the worst "fans", we have the worst reporters reporting on the team from nj.com. They want to hurt Rutgers sports all they can.

Zappa- what are your thoughts on all of the Yankees who were taking PED's when Joe Torre was manager and they were winning WS? More to the point, what are your thoughts on Joe Torre as a manager, considering this all happened on his watch? Just curious.

Com'on Josh in this day and age it's almost IMPOSSIBLE for Flood not to hear something. This has nothing to do with where you live, or who's protecting whom, or anything else, to be honest, plus:

1) it was stated, officially, that Flood knew there were some "players in trouble" from info given to him (either from team members or coach, I forget..), but...

2) if Flood has NO CLUE that something had happened then, quite honestly, he should be fired as HC because he obviously has absolutely no idea what's going on within his program, along with no-to-little control of the young men in it, and obviously there is a serious lack of respect there, too, however...

3) if you still believe Flood "didn't know," well, I just got my realtor's license and would love to show you some beautiful oceanfront property in Nebraska!

Com'on Josh you've posted here for a while and I know you're smarter than this buddy. You don't want to believe it, fine, but don't give others shit for seeing the glaringly obvious.

Those schools understand that image is everything. They took care of business with a united front. Rutgers on the other hand just does not understand. By the way, if an academic scandal happened at Harvard, I would expect them to handle it the same way UNC is... Deflect.

Ugh, not to get "off topic," but....I think you know better than to assume that the Yanks were the only team with a large # of players taking PEDs during that era. My lord I can't tell you how many guys I knew - personally - taking them from the late 80's through the early 00's. It just so happened that a guy from Long Island got busted and, well, most of his customers were from the area. Makes sense, right? Look at a guy like Brady Anderson who managed a whopping 160 HR's in the 14 season which he didn't he 50 HR's. HELLO!!
