Golden is as good as it gets

I would pay Norries Wilson 100K just to do all the press conferences. And actually, I'm not convinced he's a terrible running backs coach, despite the fact that I don't think he ever held that job before doing it here.
Did you ever here his press conferences"? Ugh

I think the OP is more or less right - not that Golden in particular is as good as it gets, but assuming Mullen doesnt shock the world, that a Golden level coach is what we are getting. The specifics might vary - but Golden-level is about it.

Anyone advocating for Golden is either a relative of his, clueless, or just stupid.

Which are you?

Find me 1 Miami fan sad to see him go.
Just 1!

For goodness sake, even Flood had people sad to see him go!!

Well, the Floodies are a special breed. Hell, you see some of them here actually comparing Golden to Flood. I would be disappointed if we end up with Golden, but I would take him over Flood in a nano second. After Flood got fired, all of sudden the bar for Rutgers Football got raised significantly for many around here ... odd phenomenon.

No one is arguing Golden isn't better than Flood, that's obvious....the question is what makes his resume or track record at Miami justified?? We are going to pay 3X the amount for a Golden vs what we committed for the entire RU staff....Does that make sense in any equation?? If you are going to these levels of pay, you are paying for someone that doesn't have a market place to land anywhere else in college football.

It can be argued that Ash has a better chance for success in the next 5 years than Golden and would be significantly cheaper, with a better staff, which we need for a first time coach.

Reading the thread, and all I think of is when Melvin Udall asks "What if this is as good as it gets?", and I'm one of the folks in the waiting room.

Well, I think Golden is a giant smoke screen so it's all moot anyway.

You could not be more incorrect when you suggest that RUonBrain is a "Floodie". He's been on the "FIRE FLOOD" bandwagon longer than most. Go check his posting history.

You also totally misread his point. He is not saying Golden is no better than Flood. He is saying that Flood still had supporters in the fan base when fired, but claims that Golden had none in the Miami fan base. Is that wrong? Although you can read what one Cane (SouthBrowardCane) said about Golden after he was fired:

"Exactly. Al Golden is a nice guy, but he has no business running a major college program. In that capacity, he is out of his depth. He's a perfect example of a person who is a capable lieutenant but not a general. Al is a guy who you would take as an assistant coach on your staff, but you don't want him running the whole show.

We've all known or seen people in our professional lives who have been promoted beyond their level of competency and as a head coach, Al is in that category."

Hmmm... does that sound like someone we know, although many question how good of a job Flood did as an OL coach?

I don't even think I'd take him as an assistant coach. His strength is NOT Xs and Os. Do you know what his philosophy on defense was at Miami? He paid lip service to "jimmy's and joe's, not Xs and Os". He did the opposite. He stubbornly stuck to a 3-4 2 gap scheme where the DEs were asked to contain, DTs 2 gap and usually we were in a cover 2-3. That leads to huge holes in the defense. He rarely deviated from this and if his specialty is defense, I don't know what to say. He's awful at it.

So if not AG, who are we getting? Seems like it's Al, Ash, or possibly Mario?

All are upgrades over Elmer Fudd. The quiet period over the last few days makes me think it's one of these 3, and I believe GS is is luckily not an option. I still go by my earlier posts (my guy instincts only) that it will be Al Golden; I also don't believe money is the issue people think it is, just that some of the superstar names don't want to come here...yet.
