Very interesting to see how USC contained and dominated UDUB at Husky Stadium. Now at least UW avoids the embarrassment of being blown out in a final 4 playoff game.

USC playing really good football at this time. QB change to Sam Darnold made a huge difference. The Kid has a bright future. If it was all about the eye test and how well a team is playing at the current time, USC may be a playoff team, however, the 3 losses disqualify them. Browning did not play well and Washington wasn't able to establish a run game.

Frankly, I' be been rooting for them. B1G will not have 2 in final 4, so why not someone we' he played? Rather them than L' ville or Clemson.

We did more to hurt UW's chances at the playoff than USC.
Can't count the number of times I heard from pundits--their putrid out of conference schedule, which included Rutgers and Portland State.
Ironically, what is hurting the other Washington team, WSU, is a loss to Eastern Washington. Presently, WSU is undefeated in conference play, and playing lights out. Looks like they actually have a defense this year. They held high scoring Cal to 21 points in a 56-21 beat down.

Yeah, me too. Don't think they'd necessarily get blown out in the playoffs, either. They're a legit, well-rounded team who lost a conference game to a rising team that had a chip on its shoulder (UW similarly stifled USC at USC last year for the win).

It's not over for them, either. They are still in position to win the PAC North and go to the championship game, and a 1-loss PAC champion should be in. We'll see what happens with OK-WVU this week, but Big 12 is looking like the most likely to be outside looking in. WVU is the last contender with only 1 loss.

In other words, I have no idea why the OP made this thread.

The dislike of UW, by a few members of this board, is odd. What have they ever done to us other than beat the crap out of our football team on opening day? They've had a GREAT season and just, unfortunately, ran into the wrong team at the wrong time. Would they get blown out by 'Bama? Yeah, probably, but there are teams that will make the playoff which that probably wouldn't be the case. I think other than 'Bama and maybe OSU they'd hang right in there with the rest.

I agree. IMO, it's nice to see a different name in the mix. Gives us some (faint, far-away hope). I mean, who'd have thought we'd be talking in November about UW, WSU and Colorado as potential PAC12 champs?

Colorado is most compelling. Colorado's record before Mike MacIntyre:

2011: 3-10
2012: 1-11
------------
MacIntrye:
2013: 4-8/ 1-8
2014: 2-10/ 0-9
2015: 4-9/ 1-8
2016: 8-2/ 6-1

Recruiting Class Ranks (Rivals):
2009: 51
2010: 71
2011: 81
---------------
2012: 37
2013: 66
2014: 64
2015: 72
2016: 63
ONE four star in 2014 and TWO four stars in 2012
------
CU beat USC, Stanford, UCLA (all with top 15-20 classes in 2012-2016) with all of that crappy talent. {cough, cough}
@cubuffsdoug --can you add anything here?

MacIntyre had similar turnaround in 3 years at San Jose State: 1-12, 5-7, then 10-2.

Three-four years before we see a real turnaround. Next year could be worse, but it could be better.
Year 3 is when we start to see progress and if Ash and his assistants are good game day coaches. Deal with it until then.

Nice breakdown, and agreed. I originally expected better for us this year but think that was just hype/wishful thinking talking.

One correction worth making: Colorado suffered its one loss to USC. F-in USC - even when they're not that good, they're spoiling things for other contenders.

Colorado fell behind 14-0 to USC, then scored 17 unanswered points. Colorado was driving into USC territory before a bonehead play cost them a chance to win the game. The final score 21-17. Still, Colorado is in first place (Pac 12 South) ahead of USC and Utah.

OK, but as @cubuffsdoug said, they kept it close. They were also beating Michigan until their their QB was knocked out of the game. With all that crappy talent.

Haha, I like the defense of the game. I'm rooting for them.

UM - OSU

UT-CO

WSU-UW ... Thanksgiving weekend is going to be more fun than usual!

I have been rooting for Washington all year long.

As have I, although the poll voters have been looking for an excuse to keep them out the whole time (i.e. 1 loss Texas A&M was 4th in the first poll). Now they've given them to opening to exclude them. I just hope they don't use this as a means to get a second SEC team (Alabama obviously belongs) into the playoffs.

Actually, it's the B1G that might benefit from all of this. The word out there is the B1G has the best shot at getting 2 teams in the playoffs simply because they have 4 teams inside the top 12. Those 4 teams paths will cross at some point to determine the B1G champ and the runner-up will benefit too. Texas A&M doesn't have another game against a good enough opponent to help their cause. Clemson or Louisville will play a weak opponent for the ACC championship and that doesn't help their cause. UL weak schedule doesn't give them enough credit for their record. Big 12 best shot is WVU and just like what the committee is doing to Washington they will do the same to WVU... keep them out at all cost. IMO I see some bias in how teams are picked.

How about a second B1G team?
Interesting dynamic for the B1G. If PSU wins out, and tOSU beats Michigan, PSU plays in the conference championship. Does that exclude tOSU if they don't play in the conference championship? Does that depend if PSU wins the conference championship? Remember PSU's 2 losses are against Michigan and what was a questionable Pitt team that is not so questionable after beating PSU and Clemson.
The only way to fix this is to put four SEC teams in the College Football Playoff.

We could fix tOSU's dilemma if we beat PSU!!! Maybe Urban can fly in from East Lansing to give Chris Ash a hand on Saturday night.

Just saw Michigan's QB is out for the game against Indiana. John O'Korn to start. So maybe they lose to both Indiana and tOSU.

If Wisconsin gets to championship game I hope they beat Penn State. That is of course if PSU beats MSU.

If Wisconsin gets to the championship game and beats (what would be a highly ranked) PSU, Wisconsin will be in the playoff.

Uh, Sanu, I posted it because: 1) it's a college football topic; 2) it involves a team Rutgers played; 3) it brings into discussion opinions about the current top four-rated teams in the country.
Should I have forwarded a draft of this thread for your approval first?

To clarify, I don't know why you posted as if UW's eliminated. That part coulda used a fact checker, yeah.
