BB Recruiting Grad transfer Akwasi Yeboah commits to Rutgers

Yeboah is a hybrid forward (3/4). He's got perimeter skills and shooting ability, but he's still big enough at 235 pounds to play the modern 4 spot.

Huge pickup, and now gives us legitimate hope for an NCAA tournament bid.

I can't wait to see a lineup of Baker, McConnell, Harper, Yeboah, and Omoruyi. 6-4, 6-6, 6-6, 6-6, and 6-7, and all can shoot/score/rebound. Put Mathis in for McConnell to put a slasher in there, and he should have room to get in the lane.

Oh, the possibilities...

This is a tourney team - I believe..

Young, McConnell, Mulchay
Baker, Mathis, Kiss
Yeboah, Harper
Gene, Carter
Johnson, Doucore

With Yeboah joining the team, I'd think that Carter won't see much time at PF, and will find his minutes backing up Johnson.

Likely places that guys will find minutes:
PG: Baker, Young, McConnell, Mulcahy
SG: Baker, Mathis, Young, McConnell, Kiss
SF: Yeboah, Harper, (Kiss, Mathis, McConnell)
PF: Omoruyi, Yeboah, (Harper, Carter)
C: Johnson, Omoruyi, Carter, Doucoure

I'd imagine that 90% of the SF/PF minutes will go to Omoruyi, Yeboah, and Harper..... which leaves a lot of fighting between Baker, Mathis, McConnell, Young, Mulcahy, and Kiss at the PG/SG spots, with very little spill over into SF.

So assuming the final scholarship goes to a high schooler, we'll have three scholarships definitely opening up for 2020 (Omoruyi, Yeboah, Carter) plus I don't think anybody would be surprised if a guard gets squeezed out of the lineup and transfers out (not insinuating anything, it's just math).

This is huge

We are going to have some serious depth

No one should be playing more than 26 minutes a game ...everyone can play their rotation balls to the walls intense and hard. No plays off and no pacing themselves

Thinking we play small ball and Eugene will be playing some five next year

I can't tell you who but my bet is that someone will step up and be good enough that it'll be malpractice to not play them more than 26 minutes.

The best closer enters the game at crunch time.

So, looking at scholarship distribution, and remaining years to play:

1 - Omoruyi, Yeboah, Carter
2 - Baker, Young, Kiss
3 - Johnson, Doucoure, Mathis, Harper, McConnell
4 - Mulcahy

With 1 more open scholarship spot.

Healthy Eugene, if he’s passing the ball/playing smart, needs to play 30 minutes in competitive games against good opponents. No one else warrants it given the depth we have, outside of Myles Johnson who won’t play 30 because we want to keep him fresh.

Correct. He has a chance to be the leading scorer. His points might not be higher than what he put up at SB but should be 14-15 point a night guy for sure. Plus he will be big on the boards.
His points especially at crunch time could be the difference in winning an additional 3-5 games.

I made it known my thoughts on the other thread. I have to come to this conclusion. I see the overall structure of our offense different for next year. We have too many good perimeter players.

Don't be surprised on opening day to see Eugene as our starting center. Unless 2 perimeters are out of the rotation (most can agree on 1) there has to be 150-160 minutes for all these guys.

I have been longing for the time where we have 4 guys that can score from the outside. It appears that day has come.

These type of expectations need to be tampered. There are 5 players on the court at a time. Assuming Young and Mulcahy were going to be decent players we didn't need depth. Yeboah has to be better than Harper to really move the needle. Also let's not assume Stony Brook production means anything in B1G. Let's not forget Peter Kiss.

I am excited to have a new player. We should always be worried about injuries. Eugene's knee scares me a lot too.

I view this as something that marginally helps our upside, but really moves up (in a good way) our potential downside.

Don't forget the rule of 200.

Sets Pikiell up to entice a high level sit out transfer at PF to join the team....he can just about guarantee him a starting spot in 2020 (if he earns it) with Eugene, Carter and Yeboah leaving. The guy from UNLV would be nice if he does not stay in the draft.

He can then use one of the three 2020 to get a 2nd PF.

Rutgers has plenty of depth at the guard and small forward positions but not at power forward.Yeboah was a go to scorer at Stony Brook which resulted in defeating Rutgers during his junior season.Yes,nobody knows how a transfer will perform in a new environment and against higher level league competition. What I do know is that Rutgers needs consistent scoring threats on the court at all times. This recruit will surely help fill that need.

And hopefully the prototype is a Jonathan Mitchell that does a little better on the glass.

Nice addition. Need to be reasonable with expectations as a result. We should be very competitive in nearly all games. I would be very selective with that last scholarship and would not mind seeing it rolled into the 2020 class. Grad transfer would be OK but I am not as concerned as others with the lack of depth at the 4/5. I expect to see Duke develop.

Yeboah is slightly better imo. Different players though. Yeboah can legit BANG down low with big men on the defensive block. Yeboah just brings a lot more varsatility

Miles will get his minutes regardless but I agree. Pike could play a lineup of all 6’6” players. I think Houston did that 2 years ago.
