Great college game day experience- Thank you

Thank you for taking the time to write this. I ran into a lot of WSU fans and asked them if they were being treated well by the Rutgers fans and they all said yes. I really want us to offer visiting fans the experience you had, regardless of where they are from. I also travel to road games annually and civility and friendliness should be the rule, not the exception.

FIFY. Because I had to.

Thanks for posting and good luck in the PAC-12. Always look for your flag on College Game day.

Heaven is right. It was definitely an X-rated movie house in the mid 70s.
I think Heaven is right also. Not that I ever went in there. Or saw a movie called Ginger because it was partially filmed on the Point Pleasant boardwalk. I don't know anything about any of this.

That is not true. You are thinking of "Arts Cinema" (aka The Strand that I see now was mentioned above) near the corner of Albany and George.. now an office building. Arts Cinema also held midnight showings of Rocky Horror.
GOR is absolutely correct here. My wife used to work the Rocky Horror Picture Show midnight shows on Friday and Saturdays at the Arts Cinema, when she was in HS growing up in HP. She knows every line in that movie and can sing all the parts, lol.

Outstanding post Coug - think it'll get some votes for post of the year. Really nice to see you were treated well and enjoyed the tailgates, facilities, and NB/P-way.

If any of you come out to Seattle next year let me know and I'll give you a few pointers. The UW is in Seattle, Washington State is in Pullman, WA which is about 300 miles to the east, in a small town. The two universities are polar opposites, big city commuter school, versus college town land grant university. UW has a nice campus, however, you will see homeless people roaming around on the ave, not something you see in Pullman.

I do live in the greater Seattle area, have most of my life other than my time at WSU, and a few years out of state for work right out of school.
1. It always rains in Seattle,( not really) Seattle averages 40 inches of rain a year, however in July and August the average is less than .5 inch per month, in September when Rutgers is here, it's the 3rd lowest month at 1.25, so September is a great time to visit Seattle if you care to.
2. If you are here more than 2 nights you should probably rent a car, Washington is not transit friendly, bus is your primary option. There is a light rail that takes you from the airport to downtown, and by next year there will light rail from downtown to Husky Stadium,(a beautiful stadiums as much as I hate to admit it) if you don't have a permit there are very few places to park near the stadium. I'll be sure to wear a shirt with a big "R" on it that day.
3. Cut your hotel costs in half and stay in the "eastside" Bellevue or Kirkland area, nice hotels and 15 minute drive to downtown.
4. As for weed, I didn't make it to the blue lot, and a Washington drivers license does not come with a right to take it out of state. However there are a lot of stores to chose from, one in every town, several in Seattle, not as common as 7/11 but not hard to find one.
5. As for things to do in Seattle, it depends upon your interest, hiking, boating, fishing, golf ect, there are a lot of good options all within a 1/2 hour to an hour of Seattle. Having traveled a lot for work, I do have to say the scenery around Seattle on a clear day is hard to beat, deep blue water and snow capped peaks in the distance in the middle summer is not something you find in too many places.

So if you are coming out next year, send me a PM, let me know what your interests are, how much time you have, and I'll be happy to give you some pointers.

Good luck the rest of the way, I'll be following Rutgers from this point, good luck against Perv St, I say you knock them off.

All WSU fans showed us a great time Seattle last year. Glad you enjoyed your stay here. It's nice to hear visiting fans enjoy our tailgating scene.

Thanks for the great post 405! Great to hear the positives of your experience. The game was exciting (even though we left too much time on the clock after the last punt runback!). Now have your guys go out and kick some PAC 12 butt so this loss doesn't look so bad for us!

405 Coug, love visiting the wineries out there.Chateau St. Michelle is just beautiful winery. Glad you had good time.

Thanks for sharing. Glad you had a good time at ru. We went last year to Seattle. We didn't have any issue with cougar fans. Seem like good folks. Nice little fleet of supporters sailed into town which was kind of cool. Was hoping your team would coug it again but no such luck! Good redemption for cracraft. Seattle is a great place. Look forward to heading out there again.

I do have one complaint.

I asked EVERY WSU fan who walked by us in the Blue lot if they had any weed. None of them did. So either your new laws aren't working or you're all a bunch of bogarts.

Many of your fans will be pretty mellow next year in Seattle. FYI ...buy Sativa strains for the game avoid the Indica

Rube,
Not sure how far back you go,but when I was looking at colleges in the late 70's, New Brunswick was a total dump and a HUGE reason why I and many kids I know crossed Rutgers-New Brunswick off our list before even giving the Piscataway campus a chance. It is a ZILLION times better than it was then. The funniest thing I always think of is the State Theatre was an x-rated movie theater then and now is home to the New Jersey Symphony and has hosted some of the best orchestras and ballet companies in the world.
Not that far back! But I can say even in the mate 90s NB was not exactly a fun place to be. The point I was actually making is when one travels to other Big 10 schools, as I know many of us have, New Brunswick is still small potatoes compared to them when it comes to development, entertainment and other options. I wasn't really trying to directly compare New Brunswick today to NB of 1998 or 1978 but to other schools in the conference and point out that we have made very noticeable strides, particularly during the last two decades. It's a lot of that development that needs to continue.

Very kind words and a breath of fresh air 405Coug. I think they used to call what you wrote "sportsmanship" from one school's fan to another. I ran into several WSU fans on main campus asking where everything was.... very nice and knowledgeable about the history of WSU. Good luck to you and the Cougars. Its nice to see a fresh face in the Stadium.

I thought I remembered the X-rated theater being on Albany street...It was the train station, with a rundown set of stores next to it that had a Blimpies (with flies everywhere) and an X-rate theater. The stores were knocked down to build that J&J building that now on the corner of Albany and George. If I recall correctly it didn't seem very safe walking from College Ave through that area to Tumulty's Pub on George St. back then.

I can't remember what was at the State Theater location. I seem to recall the Crossroads Theater was located where those newer condos/apts are on the service road parallel to Rt. 18.

Great post, Coug. I especially enjoyed how observant you were of all of the activities during the stoppages of play, how RU honors various groups of people. Most people don't pay all that much attention to such things, unfortunately.

Good luck against Wyoming and the rest of the way. With your QB and O Line, you will surprise some Pac 12 teams this season. Just pray for dry weather during your games - it obviously helps your offense click, as it did on Saturday.

Thank you for the kind post and glad you had a great time. Good win for you guys and wish you luck the rest of the way.

I go to a fair share of RU road games and have always been treated well by opposing fans (well, except for UConn!). I always treat visiting fans just the way I'd like to be treated, and enjoy talking and getting a different perspective. Thanks for sharing OP!

Wow a person with a healthy perspective! I hope it helps some of our self-loathing the sky is falling types on this board take a step back from the edge. This post should also help us see that the grass is not always greener elsewhere... We do have a lot of positives overall and we will continue to work on our issues and correct the enevitable mistakes.

thanks for the post 405 Coug

I have to say with the stadium surrounded by parking lots you have one of the best tailgating setups around, you don't realize how great it us until you have been to other stadiums.
1. Great post thanks for sharing.
2. Glad you enjoyed the trip. Sounds like you did it the right way. I happened to be at the train station earlier in the day and it was good to see a train full of fans, both Cougs and locals, happily pouring out of NJ Transit.
3. As to your point above; As somebody who as been to a lot of other venues I constantly tell people the parking and tailgating we have at RU is better than most, but I don't think they believe me.
4. Enjoyed being at Seattle last year greatly, maybe Pullman sometime in the future?
5. Have a great rest of your season.

I lived in Seattle long time ago. Great city and love the area. I use to go to the Seattle Seahawks game but went to 1 UW game. I don't know if they renovated but they have the steepest inclin for seats around maybe 2-3 times greater than Rutgers. Scary just getting to your seat.

Bump. A little perspective is never a bad thing. Thanks, Coug. Glad you enjoyed your visit. We were 4 points too hospitable if you ask me, but I'm trying to let that wound scab over, so I'll leave it there. Happy trails...
