Great Thought Process if it is Ash

Seems like the new Rutgers administration has went through a good thought process if it is Ash. Here are big picture thoughts on the other candidates that made me wonder why Rutgers would hire them. Ash would be an exciting hire.

Schiano: He left once for greener pastures and did not jump at the opportunity to come back. I would imagine Greg Brown would have reached out to him but Schiano obviously does not want to be here.

Cristobal: He had the chance before and for whatever reason it did not get done. No matter what it was a step-up from FIU and if he believed in his ability to perform he would believe the money would come later.

Golden: A re-tread, failing at Miami with all the theoretical recruiting talent in those classes in a weak ACC (other than Fl St) is a big red flag. The perception is a demotion going from Miami to RU.

Overall, I love the idea of getting someone who has alot to prove, does not have perceived baggage and is a fresh start. If it is Ash, well done Rutgers.

And he has a defensive mind.....which has been a HUGE issue for us since Schiano left

“We’ve competed against a Chris Ash defense before and I have respect for him as a coach,” Meyer said when announcing the hiring of Ash. “I like the fact he has experience in the Big Ten Conference and that he is a great recruiter. He was highly recommended by everyone I spoke to.”

Time will tell, but hopefully he is a better recruiter than we are giving him credit for being

It is interesting that on Rivals, where it tells you the "recruited by" is for Ohio State that most of the defensive players are Luke Fickell and Larry Johnson and not Chris Ash. Not sure that's indicative on anything, but it may be a bit of a flag.

i will add another positive

he's been in the B1G for 2 years. he doesn't need to get familiar with the teams we are going up against

Fairly sure he has coached 5 seasons in the Big Ten and has been in the championship game in 4 of them.

I love the hire and Ash's career path is very similar to Greg Schiano and Tom Herman.

When Greg Schaino was hired he only had 2 years of DC coaching experience at Miami, the top dog in the Big East then. Ash has 2 years DC coaching experience at the new top dog in our conference. This should bring stability to the defensive side of the ball similar to what GS brought in 2001. Also Ash and Herman were the coordinators of the national champion Buckeyes last year. Look at what Herman has done down at Houston, if Ash can emulate what Herman has done down there he will be a home run hire.
