Hard to be Lifelong RU Fan...

Been going to RU games for 52 years - season ticket holder for 48 and I thought I have seen it all until today. Epic coaching error. When my crew saw the FG kicker come on the field we were all shocked and thinking what a dope that head coach must be. Impossible kick.....and then the real impossible happened. Epic fail - feel bad for the team - they played their hearts out.

Sure but getting to a bowl game in the Big Ten or SEC is much more of an accomplishment than the MAC or ACC.
This is true except we. Get 2 auto wins against low level teams and need to 4-5 in conference..I very tough one but pretty easy this year in comparison to years past. But they have to win 6 all against teams at their level or higher.

Yeah, for sure. It's just that Rutgers is all Central Jersey has. North Jersey has NYC that they can share. South Jersey has Philly. Rutgers is ours and we just can't breakthrough...ever.

Fan since I was a kid growing up in Piscataway. 53 years old. Seen a lot. At the game today and heartbroken again. Is there any Power 4 (or even FBS) program it's harder to be a fan of? Never able to have nice things...
A long time ago, Graber years, I was asked by a fan of some front-runner type team, what's it like to be a Rutgers fan.

"Heartache" was my one-word answer. But winning means more to us... so does loyalty. You think a Bama fan knows what loyalty is?

True. My nephew was a Bama fan until they stopped winning. Now he worships the Cult.

In my mind, this loss is the mirror of the miracle v. MSU last year and I saw the end of both live.

I'm not a parent but I've read about parents who only stay married for the kids and that's what being an RU fan feels like lol.

What blows my mind is that even without the wind it’s a low percentage play regardless of the kicker’s PB. That kick would have been tough for a seasoned NFL kicker. As someone said - that distance and wind made it almost impossible. I bet if someone crunched the numbers factoring in the variables it would have had a less than 10% chance of making it. It was basically a hail-mary FG attempt.

The timeout was one problem, but not the only one.

Greggie should’ve taken another timeout after he saw their alignment to settle his guys down and get everyone’s responsibilities straight. And he should’ve never sent the house. Tackle the receiver inbounds and game over.

Inexcusable coaching errors

Not true, we got wins over Maryland and Minnesota after 4 consecutive losses and being lower than the Mariana trench, those were nice things and unexpected, We have an offense and a competent quaterback coming back next year, other nice things.

Yes. I think it’s kind of like kids. People say it, but it doesn’t really get easier when they get older, just the old problems go away and you get new things to worry about. There are a lot of teams that think they have a manifest destiny to rule college football and win the national championship at the start of the season, not to mention any names, … , and they get their souls crushed after 2-3 early season ending losses.

This sucks, but I saw some really great plays by RU yesterday and a fight to the end, but we got beaten by the better team that day. RU is bowl eligible with 2 games left to play, and a good shot at winning next weekend. Thank you to all the seniors and best of luck! Go RU!

Been watching RU and the Mets since childhood, and I'm 59, so I've obviously seen lots of losses. Haven't been this pissed off after a loss in a very long time.
I root for those teams and the Jets as well. Very hard at least the Mets have a path forward

Some zen wisdom from the Himalayas🙂

I'm surprised how much negativity has carried over to today, honestly. Yeah, it was a gut punch and singularly horrific TO call/defensive breakdown, but I don't recall most having us winning the Ill game to begin with.

So in the big picture, the team had a better overall performance than expected, we finally have an offense and it's progressing over the season, and we're where we expected to be a week or two ago anyway. Still have the chance to win 2 out of 3 last games and the bowl game if team looks forward, not back. Fans might as well do the same.

Well, now maybe they understand the importance of playing defense every possession why turnovers aren’t acceptable.

Can’t relax on defense and be loose with the rock and expect to win, even against less talented rosters.

Isn’t it great to criticize the coach, only to find out that you don’t even know the rules of the game!!!

Ha, a step school is the way to go.

Still won't dull the pain completely but healthier than alcohol.

Of course, if RU blows it huge in the last 14 secs, then your step school loses too, it's not much help🤕
