Why would he come to Rutgers? First, the money would have to be there, that is a given. Second, location, location, location, i.e., NY metro market. Third, recruiting footprint. Fourth, the challenge of building a program that has never accomplished anything of note in football. Fifth, no pressure, he takes Rutgers to one Rose Bowl and he will go down as the greatest coach in the history of the program, doesn't even need to make the playoffs. Sixth, he would be treated as a savior on campus and among the fans. Plenty of reasons for him to come to Rutgers, but it starts with the money, the administration would have to make an offer that would knock his socks off. Will it happen, not likely, could it, anything is possible.

An offer he can’t refuse? This is jersey after all.

The one reason in why he would come to RU is he is a GIGANTIC EGOMANIAC!!! He probably would want to stick it bad to OSU seeing as he got run out of there. It would be good for 5 yrs until he got run out of here, he's no different than Tressel great coach but scumbag

Meh, we can do better.

It's a great fantasy for sure. That kind of name recognition would cure so much of what plagues this program. It starts with the number of talented assistants, both up-and-coming and seasoned vets, who would line up to work under him. Then, he and his staff would completely change the recruiting dynamic around here. Think about how GS changed the way kids looked at RU, and multiply that by "x".

But... money. AND (more importantly) RU leadership and the other factors mentioned above.

In an interview last week he said he would never take over a bottom ranked team.

Helton is getting fired at Southern Cal that is already known.
Urban is working for Fox in LA now

If he comes back and that’s a big if right now.
Which is job would be more attractive
USC or Rutgers
One has history, titles and owns California recruiting.
One has no a history or no support from from school/ fans. Can’t keep any of the top kids in NJ.

We know Rutgers has no chance getting a coach of that caliber to come here.

Has Urban Meyer denied interest in the RU HC job?

If not then make the phone call before other schools do.
He said he would never coach a last place team. He actually said “ why would you “ in an interview. So yes that’s us.

Helton definitely on the hot seat, it’ll be interesting to see if Harrell and Slovis can save his job. Nice win they got yesterday.

He would never come here. Ever. But that said, it would be really interesting to see what a top coach like Urban could do here. It would be like Greg at this zenith, but on steroids.

Truthfully, hiring a guy like this may be the only thing that could save the program.
Like it or not, what else could RU offer some homegrown stars (*****) but a proven winner?
This is where some out$ide money could help.

Kansas hired Les Miles and lost to Coastal Carolina yesterday. Chip Kelly doesn’t seem to be turning UCLA into the next Oregon. We need a long term fix. Hire someone who is a proven winner, understands the Jersey scene, can recruit, and is going to stay for a long time. There’s only one person I can think of who fits this description. You know who I mean.

Les Miles and Chip Kelly are proven winners which shows that there are no guarantees.

You guys miss the fact that these top coaches dont take on builds... they take on rebuilds or tune ups wiuld probably be a better way to put it. He was selective in picking UF and Osu in the first place. RU does nothing for him. He would go to a place like texas if the job came open again.

Its because for as good as a coach might be, there are a million other factors that lead to success. Theres an inherent institutional bias non blue bloods need to over come to be successful, the stars have to align and you have to capitalize to make the next jump or forever miss the boat.

We had that brewing here, the league was watered down, our recruiting kept steady and even improved under schiano, and then we never really capitalized. Finally the most rutgers thing that could ever happen happened... we lost our coach right before it became clear that we would get the BIG invite. Nail in the coffin

Amazing isn't it. USC beats Frenso St.(not a pushover beat Minny) and Stanford last night and people still want him fired. Ash goes 8-30 with multiple blowouts and here we have people debating if he's going to be fired. We have got to have the worst Administration in all of college sports. I am in awe at their indifference.

He is going to USC.

At that point he will have held the easiest job in 3 of the 5 major conferences.

Once he is out of there he will be out for a few years until resurfacing at Oklahoma or Miami lol

I’d pay 300 for xtra for season tickets to hire a guy like this. Top ten classses and every N.J. too 20 kid wanting to come here. It would alter the football program forever. We would not be laughing stocks again with this guy. He wins period!!!

If he ever considered to come here, it’s all about the money. That’s it. All about the money for him and his staff. The expectations here won’t affect his health and if he got us a win over Ohio State, never mind a championship, he is a GOD!!!!! Winning takes spending money and until Rutgers spends money, we won’t win shit. Chris Ash makes 2.3 million dollars. Kyle Flood made 1.5. Even Schiano only made 2 million. Rutgers has to offer at least 6 million a year to get Meyer here and that’s just to get negotiations open. Not to forget the staff. You get what you pay for.
