High School Individual State Championships Thread

Nini loses in OT. He had Vazquez’s leg for like 1 minute in the 3rd couldn’t pull him in or get any other control. Got basically lulled to sleep in OT after no action from Vazquez for the prior 6 minutes.

Hermes won both of his matches by fall in an about a minute each in the district championships.

Henrich wins his semifinal 2-1 in UTB. He was able to ride out his opponent the whole period. He advances to the finals to face Brady Conlin from St Augustine Prep

Wow congrats! Mine as-well be wrestling at Prep Nationals with a kid from South Carolina and Texas going to your school smh. It is one thing to get the top kids in NJ. When you start getting kids from out of state...thats when it gets pathetic.
Ha. I always got a kick out of when JoJo Aragona won a NJ state title while living in Pennsylvania. Not St Joes but same concept.

Hahaha. St Joes montvale ! Who give a toot..

#1 team in the state and 3 into the state finals.

St joes have 10 guys leaving with a medal from AC. Program is on a the rise and creating a problem that will be hard to beat in the years to come. Really young team.

Current Team score Delbarton 175 St Joes 161. A fluke duel meet victory does not mean anything. Best team in the NCAA goes by tournament not duel meet. Enjoy your fantasy

For what it’s worth this isn’t the NCAA and the state did away with team scoring for states. Fluke dual win or not, St Joes was the best non public team in the state this year.

Credit to SJ but Delbarton and SJ could wrestle 100 times and Delbarton would win 99. The Sloan pin, while down 10-0 and locked in a cradle, was a 10 point swing and Vasquez upset was the WTF match of the year - especially considering that Vazquez took out Nini yesterday. Everything that could go wrong for Delbarton, did go wrong, during that match.

Agree entirely but it’s all irrelevant. That’s why you wrestle. Delbarton had their chance to be the best non public in the state and for one reason or another they blew it.

The real question is, is Bergen dead? Without Bell, are they going to slide? At least the other private schools are in the mix now. They're still having tourny, but will it change? Seems like there's been a shift.

The shift was happening before that. Delbarton and St Joes we’re closing the gap steadily the last few years. Even St Peter’s has been pumping out state finalists and champs lately.

Zaleski has won all of his wrestlebacks 8-3, 9-3, and 8-1 and will wrestle for 3rd against Connor Collins

True, but now that Bell is gone their gonna slide fast. I know the assistant has been there for a while, but the other programs have a lot of momentum. I remember when Delbarton was awful in the late 90s. They've come a long way.

That super duck against Nini was pretty filthy. I thought he had that match. It's a shame that he couldn't get the takedown

How are the RU commits/potentials doing?

Bell is still going to be involved just not head coach

Mullen got a take down at the 3rd period buzzer to avoid going to SV. Mullen got taken to his back in the 2nd and it was crazy that backs weren’t given. Definitely got tested. Would have been one of the biggest upsets in state history.

Mullen wrestled not to lose, never shot (which he usually does), just looked for the bear hug to a trip. You feel for Acciardi because he wrestled the better match and just didn’t get it done.

NJ states should be brought forward or pushed back a week either way to not coincide with the big tens. Ohio and Penn both are a week off.

I can tell you for a fact NJ will not push back. Student representatives requested a longer time off in between winter and spring seasons and athletic directors agreed. As a result, spring sports are starting two weeks later than usual this year and likely beyond.

Pushing up is certainly a possibility as I predict most spring coaches will be complaining that their preseason isn’t long enough with this added break.

No sure why we are excited about Packer. He is not nationally ranked by Flo. Now if we get Harer it is a different story. Flo has him ranked # 6 nationally.
I’m not sure why we wouldn’t be excited for any one who commits here and wants to wrestle for RU. The coaches obviously see something in him and he could obviously continue to develop over the next few years. Worst case he’s a solid depth guy who surely isn’t receiving a meaningful scholarship allocation which would limit the team. I’ll always support anyone who chooses to represent RU.
