Hiring a Director of Player Personnel

Seems Ash is following the blueprint Herman used in Houston that both learned from Meyer:

http://www.campusrush.com/tom-herman-houston-cougars-head-coach-education-1336562958.html

"Two of the key components of Urban's program are the strength coach and football operations. I took Fernando Lovo from Ohio State to run operations, and hired Yancy McKnight, who I worked with at Iowa State, as my strength coach. Those guys are like co-head coaches. I treat them that way and the players treat them that way."

It's interesting how when both Schiano and Flood got the job, there seemed to be a little bit of randomness to how spots got filled. Ash has communicated and followed a plan like what you would expect to see from a CEO. His emphasis on the non-coaching staff is new for me. Hell, I didn't really even know who all we had and what they did. I think Ash is also going to make his staff available to the media. I think his story and style will not be all about him. If you look at how these guys worked in their past organizations, it seems many did extracurricular stuff, like videos and camps, in a more visible fashion. It still remains to be seen how this will go but I think he has the confidence and security, not only in his own ability, but in the ability in his staff to communicate their message and he will let them do so. This will help Rutgers develop an identity and a program which can stand on it's own beyond the inevitable changes that will always come at successful programs. wow.... this is different..and I hope I'm right

its a great idea. Again, who cares about "Jersey ties" when you have people in place who know what they are doing and have a plan to execute it?!?

Chris Ash has hired Nick Quartaro as the Director of Player Development

help me out - how is that different from a Director of Player Personnel?

I suspect that the specific definitions of these roles ultimately comes from the Head Coach

if you go look at OSU's staff on website....the bios for the guys in each of those positions describe the roles...

Jefferson works closely with the football operations staff in orchestrating the day-to-day workings of the football program. In addition to monitoring the academic progress of the student-athletes, he is also the point person for the Buckeyes' far-reaching community relations and outreach initiatives.

Personnel guy.......

>Mark Pantoni is in his third season as the Ohio State football program's director of player personnel. In this position Pantoni supervises all aspects of the program's administrative duties for recruiting, including on-campus official and unofficial visits, budgeting, travel and database management.

It's amazing what happens when you give smart guys a budget, as well as a bit of support from the BOG and president.

Quartaro served as the head football coach Drake University from 1987 to 1988.
