Listen to his post game presser and tell me what a wonderful coach he is. He said It himself he's a sore lover . He gives little to no credit to the opposition and is into the blame game. Personally , he's kind of an embarrassment to a university.
Watching his post press conference was horrible - body language sucked. He admitted to be a sore loser but blaming the refs after the hatchet defense he had his team play is ridiculous.

This thread was created as a proposition to dump Pike and replace him with Holloway. You're being a bit vague on that front. Correct me if I'm wrong but you seem to want to give the credit for anything good elsewhere and the blame for anything negative to Pike.
Also, if you don't think it takes significant effort to reel in even a legacy like Dylan, not sure what to tell you. RU has not had a freshman class like this in over 50 years.
in that case he should be thanking the refs. all those fouls put RU in the 1 and 1 at the perfect time for them, and all those foul shots the refs "GAVE" RU kept hall in the game since RU missed most of them.
His press conference was really scary. He takes losing very poorly. I thought he was going to start crying at one point. I can’t believe anyone who saw that presser would want him to be our coach.
Holloway has been terrible this year and assembled a weak group after his other players abandoned him. That said he coached a great game today given how horrific his team has been playing. That Pike was slow to counter or seemingly didnt have his team ready was the issue
Some are looking at this game much differently than I am. Holloway/SHU started the game like St. Peters from their tourney run. They figuratively punched RU in the face to start the game. They were extremely physical, double trapped Harper, got us out of sorts and caused confusion & turnovers by RU.
RU took it in the chin, but ultimately withstood the bull rush (mostly due to Ace). Pike made adjustments at the half and applied more pressure on ball D. He also put the ball in Dylan's hands more frequently near the top/center on Offense to help avoid the side trap. The refs also tightened their whistles in the 2nd half which minimized the SHU over-zealous D.....Pike accounted for this by having his guys drive more into the paint to draw fouls. The adjustments made by Pike would have won the game comfortably if not for many missed FTs. Ace at 1-8 will likely not happen again. I think Dylan also missed 2 down the stretch which in recent games has not happened.
Ace, Dylan, and even Lathan are super talented. But they still lack experience at this level. They are likely seeing some things in the way they are defended/attacked for the first time. People are selling Pike very short in his approach to making adjustments to account for that lack of experience.
The supporting cast is another story. The rotation is still in flux due to overall inconsistency in performance. But IMO, more than anything else, Martini's relative ineffectiveness so far is one of the biggest issues plaguing this team right now. Sometimes players don't work out as planned, but I really hope it clicks for him going forward as RU & Pike need more interior toughness, leadership and having his ability (assuming he can) to stretch the floor.
For those who love Holloway, he blew it at the end and the RU fanbase would likely not take to his constant antics and mercurial overly emotional style.

One day when we move on from Pike and start a coaching search, if we're settling for Holloway, I'm done. At some point we have to act like a Big 10 team and bring in a coach with an impressive resume.

Well to be fair, his resume includes an Elite 8 appearance and a NIT championship.
That is arguably better than HC Pike when he was hired.
Not saying it's impressive but it's much more than "lost to monmouth".
Miracle runs are pretty much meaningless as a predictor of future coaching quality. St. Peter's got super hot for two weeks and good for them (and good for him for coaching those two weeks) but they also were not even the regular season champions of the MAAC. They were not one of the 100 best teams in the country much less top 8.
I'm NOT saying he didn't do a good job there, to be clear. Just, you shouldn't really use the results of single elimination tournaments as the major driver of analyzing a coach.
I should also say: I think Holloway is a good coach. But I also think Pike is a good coach. My point when mentioning is losses this season is not that it makes him a bad coach but rather that the same people clamoring for him here would be screaming that we should fire him if he had those results here.

I agree with this. I'm just hoping that if we're willing to pay Pike as a top 30 level coach, we should be able to find an established top 30 coach and not just hope and pray that the new person will develop into one.
I don’t think that’s how it works; if you want to hire someone who is *already proven* that they are a top-30 coach you will need to pay them a significant premium to lure them away from the job where they are already established as a top 30 coach. You aren’t going to get a power conference winning coach to jump to a new uncertain situation just by offering them the same salary they’re already making.
That little in and out dribble that Harper hit him with got him turned around. Ended up giving him a ton of space to get that shot off.

Holloway is an excellent coach who brought a St. Peters Team to the Elite 8. He should have earned an NCAA bid last year but instead won an NIT Championship. Holloway is tough to play for because he is a perfectionist and rides his players hard in practice. Those who stick with him get better (eg. Davis, Richmond, Samuels and Coleman). The players transferring out of the program were either non-power 6 players or received large offers from another school that SHU couldn't match (e.g. Davis and Richmond). That's the problem Shaheen has this year and beyond. SHU probably has the smallest NIL budget in the Big East. He therefore had to gamble on players who were highly ranked in high school but had below par freshmen seasons at their respective schools (e.g. Middleton, Yaldon, Dual, and Harmon). Thus far, his recruiting strategy has failed. Saturday's game againstRutgers was the best his team played all year so there's hope for a turnaround. Unfortunately, Shaheen has to be thinking about going to another school with a large NIL budget. He's very loyale to SHU but he has to think about his career in coaching going forward.
I would imagine there is near zerp chance that happens.

I would never trade Pike for Holloway. Typically Pike is a better coach, and he represents his university better. However, it is hard to ignore that Holloway had a better coaching day on Saturday. He also seemed to have a better game plan coming in. He saw that this year RU has been quite vulnerable in the pick and roll game and Holloway went with that, getting 10 points out of his stiff 5 man. He saw that our posts have been slow to recover on their hedges and worked off of that. He saw that this year there has been trouble with the defensive rotations once a driver gets our defensive player on their hip in the lane — and he exploited this. So while I am in no way shape or form a Holloway fan, and while I want no SHU alum coaching here less – – with the exception of Marcus Tony-El — we have to Holloway credit for Saturday.
Sha coached a better 1st half. Pike adjusted and coached a better 2nd half.
