Honest Appraisal: Rutgers Basketball looks and feels like a BIG 10-seed at best.

We have trouble with mid-range jumpers, finishing layups, along with poor foul shooting and lack of adequate rebounding.
Lack of a consistent offense is our Achilles heel this year.

Get to .500 and move on to next year. Everyone’s inclination seeing this team will at first thought be the is a red alert indicator for the program without the context of next seasons outlook but the best thing for us all will be to only think about next year lol

I don’t think it’s a red alert anything.

I think Pike actually took some criticism on board and sacrificed some of his principles in an effort to create a better offense. And mostly he just ended up with a worse defense and completely incompetent rebounding. The team is not good but it doesn’t need to indicate anything about the program.

Plus they aren’t always going to look as bad as today.. sometimes Cliff will do something and Simpson won’t brick every single shot etc

What principles has he sacrificed?

Simpson just is not a B1G player. His recruiting ranking is showing to be accurate.
He is a complete liability on offense. He should have the red light on any shot outside of an uncontested breakaway layup.

Nailed it

Compounding the issue is Wolf is role player and Pike didnt recruit a legit 4/5 backup and Cliff is vastly overrated

A lot of role players. Oskar not for this level

Simpson can play a role in the Big Ten as an 8th or 9th man who gets <10 mins / game, defends well and plays within himself on offense

But yeah…looking more and more like another recruiting miss. Program was built on size and toughness and Simpson just doesn’t fit the mold. Sub-35% shooters who are undersized don’t play starters minutes on winning teams

I’ve seen every B1G team play and I’m honestly not sure who is worse than us.

Unfortunately our shooting woes and awful rebounding are unlikely to be fixed this year. We will win a couple of games that no one expects, but we will also struggle a lot. 10th seed may be generous at this point. We don’t have a single good win yet this season.
Shu is decent but not a tourney team

I still contend playing sistersxof the poor at the rac is a fools errand

I think they’re even lower, probably bottom 4. No idea how they beat Seton Hall.

Will be interesting to see what happens this year between SHU and RU. They went on the road, got kicked in the teeth a bunch, and seem to have found something. We played an easy soft schedule at home and look largely unprepared heading into B1G season.

The Princeton game said it all tbh.

You will see some fools gold here and there but my goal for this year is .500

We are pretty bad in multiple areas.

Thank God for that soft schedule or I question if we would win 15 games this season.

I get that but it looks like Pike is still figuring out this team and that’s what happens when everyone looks good against bad teams.

Toughened up with strong scheduling pays off

I think 15 is more likely than 12.
To reach 15 wins Rutgers will need to win seven B1G Ten games .I don't see them winning one road game. Playing at the RAC has shown a downward trend in winning league games starting at the end of last season followed by the loss to Illinois this season.Poor rebounding and abysmal shooting results in losses wherever the games are played.

Ok. They’ll win a road game. They’ll shoot well sometimes. Rebounding will be a problem all season.

Agreed. That and playing 3 games in 3 weeks is nuts! The long layoffs between games cannot be helping the offense. Terrible scheduling all around.

We suck. A lot of teams suck on bad days. You will be surprised that we win a few games we dont expect and lose a bunch you hope we dont

A lot of really stupid comments here. The negatoids are in full force. We lost to a 9-2 team that was top 25 and played 6 neutral site games. Give it a break. Most of you have clearly not been athletes in college, and probably not even in HS.
