Rutgers & NJ @ Heart
Fuller could be the equivalent of Peppers playing "D", WR/ special teams.

It would give us a BUZZ....the NJ player of the year and the perception that things are turning round....
once again!

I just don't think Ash is generating much buzz with recruits. Doesn't mean he won't be great but he has to prove himself.

Well at least Fuller must be fully aware that a promise to play you at the position you want isn't worth the paper it's written on.

Brodo - Good to see another Golden Knight on this board. NVOT Class of 1985
I was class of 1980. So you were there the same time as Booker - he was 1987. I was one year behind baseball player Dan Pasqua who would go on to play for the Yankees.

I played football with both the Bookers. Graduated with his older brother.
That's very cool! I can remember reading a story a few years ago where Corey Booker went into his neighbor's burning building and rescued her. I posted the story to Facebook with the caption, "This guy is making it tougher and tougher for me to one day be known as my high school's greatest alumnus." And that was before he became a US Senator. Now I'll have to figure out a way to stop an asteroid, or something similarly huge to surpass him.

Speaking of NVOT football, I think the team won three games during my four years of high school. And then years later won a state title.

We went 5-4 my senior year and I believe it was only the 2nd winning season in school history. The other winning season was potentially my Dad's senior year and he was part of the 1st class to ever graduate from OT. In 86 we lost the states and in 87 we won from what I recall.

Comment to the story:
"After all, Chris Ash, Rutgers, and the State of New Jersey aren't going to pay his bills and take care of him for the rest of his life, and he has a much better chance of getting noticed by NFL scouts while playing for Ohio State than for Rutgers."

Ash needs to sell to recruits that they will be PLAYING, and not somewhere on the depth chart. Actually, if he comes to Rutgers, he has a better chance of standing out and getting noticed. And as another comment to the story stated- Rutgers is pretty well known for sending defensive players to the NFL, along with TEs and WRs.

It costs very little to make a call or visit a local kid. Even if we're not even on the guy's radar, you have to at least perform your due diligence.

It's not like we flew the staff over to Louisiana to visit a kid who can't even find Rutgers on a map.

"It definitely made me feel like they have a big chance to come in and make some noise in the Big Ten this year," [Jordan Johnson] said. "And I feel like that's exciting to be a part of." http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/i...nson_4-star_lineman_and_rutgers_legacy_w.html

That's at least two recruits who would never have considered us under Flood.

What was wrong with flood that he couldn't get ANY of the top recruits from the state in years, not even a sniff??? His salary was low but in reality he was a very very expensive hire. False economy.

To be fair to Flood, his problem really wasn't recruiting, per se. In 2013, following 2012, we were in the running for many of Jersey's best. It's when they saw the product on the field, the coaching decisions - whether in game tactical stuff or long term strategic stuff (like philosophy on starting QB) that the recruiting tide turned on him. That's point through that entire saga - his incompetence was on full display every week when we played. The score didn't even matter. Even the games we won, you could see the coaching incompetence. NJ HS coaches, parents, recruits are not dumb. They too, witnessed the Flood incompetence, in all it's glory.

I find it funny though, that some of these Flood defenders are now saying we have no shot with guys like Fuller. Would this be considered being negative - hmm? o_O

I don't expect recruiting to all of a sudden improve by leaps and bounds under Ash. But I suspect many here will be pleasantly surprised come signing day. ;)

Looks like you choose flight and negative culture.

Yeah most fans called Flood, Schiano, Shea, Anderson and Graber incompetent. Yada, yada, yada. How long do we have to listen to this? Talk about Ash here and now. Talk up the positives.FIGHT.

I think what killed the 2013 class first and foremost was the BS allegations about bullying in our program. Totally made up BS by NJ.com. But if it makes you and everyone feel better keep bashing him and everything about RU. That negative culture will surely help us land top tiered recruits. FLIGHT.

Unfortunately there were, without question, off-the-field shenanigans that help to destroy that class, as well as caused kids to quit, and it wasn't just involving any "bullying" that may have occurred. I've never heard about that, privately, but definitely other things that just recently came to light which I knew about in October 2013 (and, yes, others here can absolutely verify what I did know...). Combine that stuff with the on-field beatdowns and, eventually, the happenings around and involving the outcome of the USF game, which cause maybe the final 3 de-commits, and the picture maybe will finally become a little more clear to all.

So you're choosing the old blame the star ledger route instead of the coach. What was the excuse for flood's terrible recruiting in 2014 and 2015?

When someone gets cancer and you choose to ignore it - is that being negative? You have no idea whatsoever what negative means. If anything, promoting something or someone who is causing harm IS the most negative thing you could possibly do. I know I know, it's all water under the bridge, let it go. I get that. But the bad taste in our mouths of the prior regime is so bad it will take time to heal the wounds it created.

And BTW, have I said anything remotely negative with Ash? Quite the opposite.
