Howard Game day weather . How low can you go ? temps 78-80 degrees ! Mostly cloudy

Weather dot com shows a high of 83 and a low of 64, partly cloudy. Nothing wrong with that, if it holds.

Wednesday will be a scorcher in mid 90s but front with showers comes in but likely thats over by Thursday morning just some residual cloudiness with sun breaking out but highs tamped down in the low 80s. At least thats the call from here. As long as the front doesnt hang up we should be good to go

Forecast continues to look even cooler with all 4 major models showing highs on Thursday in the upper 70s to 80F, which is why the NWS has lowered their forecast high to about 80F (actually slightly below normal, which is 82/63F on 8/29) and their dewpoint forecast has been lowered to the low/mid-60s, which is still muggy, but not brutal. The models are generally dry, although a few spritzes and maybe a shower are still possible, as seen in a couple of models and discussed in the NWS AFD, below.

LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The long term period has come into better agreement today amongst
available guidance, but unfortunately looks to be increasingly more
unsettled. A shortwave aims to cross through the area late Thursday
into Thursday night, causing another round of showers and storms
across western portions of the area. Another disturbance will
quickly be on its heels, aiming to impact the area on Friday night.
Eventually, a cold front looks to cross through later next weekend.
Overall, there will be plenty of shower and storm potential around
but with embedded dry periods as well.

Temperatures for the long term period are expected to be near normal
on Thursday, becoming below normal for Friday and Saturday, before
returning close to normal again on Sunday.

NWS and most weather media have dropped their Thursday highs down into the mid/upper 70s and it could go even further, as a couple of models are showing highs around 70F and the rest are showing mid/upper 70s, as we look to be in a NE flow regime after the front comes through Weds night with air coming towards us from NE Canada/New England.

Also, looking cloudier and there is still a chance of a few light showers during the day, especially to our west, but not far away from Pway - need to keep an eye on that precip, as some models have 1/4" or so 50-100 miles west of us and up to 0.1" for our area (which would be a nuisance to me, but others tend to freak out if we get even some sprinkles).

Yeah those long range models were off for sure even the mid range not anticipating that Northeast wind after the frontal passage Wednesday night

Very unusual for highs to be 20 plus degree cooler in 24 hours...something more common in the spring

Still if we can get mostly cloudy and mid 70s probably around 70 during most of game people wont have to worry about bundling up

As we move into Thursday and Thursday night, the front will sag to
our south. However, another short wave/vorticity impulse will move
across the area, which could lead to another round or two of showers
or thunderstorms.

pick your poison...Wednesday will be 95 plus with heat index of 105 during the day and thunderstorms arriving in the evenning vs mostly cloudy with 30% chance of showers on Thursday with highs hopefully in the mid 70s

I'll take 70s for the tailgate and game this time or year. Remember what NW was like for the opener last year? But I'll say it was pretty cool to be a featured game on TV that weekend and dominate NW before they got their act together.

We're now 48-60 hours out and the forecast is looking pretty solid for a warm and somewhat humid day, but not a hot one, by any stretch, as highs will very likely be in the 72-78F range, with dewpoints in the mid-60s. There should also be lots of clouds and it may be completely overcast for long stretches, but some peeks of sun are also likely, and the chances of significant rain (>0.1") are about nil. However a few brief, light showers or sprinkles (<0.05" from 1 pm to 10 pm) can't be ruled out. I'll take mostly cloudy and mild with a few sprinkles over sunny and temps in the mid-90s with brutal humidity, i.e., Wednesday's forecast (which was looking like it could be Thursday's forecast about a week ago).

SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...

As we move into Thursday and Thursday night, the front will sag to
our south. However, another short wave/vorticity impulse will move
across the area, which could lead to another round or two of showers
or thunderstorms with the greatest chances across eastern PA.
Meanwhile, high pressure across northern New England will
attempt to ridge in from the north and east, aiding in a cool
ENE onshore flow. Temperatures across northeastern PA,
central/north Jersey, and the Jersey Shore could only warm into
the mid to upper 70s during the afternoon with low-80s Philly
on south and west.

prepare for battle and hemming and hawing over this forecast, its starting already
Prepare to be wrong. Again. You should know better than to have such confidence in forecasts a week or more out.

This thread is also just one more example of how long range (beyond 7-8 days) forecasts for a specific day are generally highly inaccurate and why I never post weather threads beyond 7-8 days - and even 7-8 day forecasts (or sometimes even 2-3 day forecasts, lol) can be highly inaccurate. On the other hand, general temperature/precip trends for several day periods a week or two out can be quite useful.

just proves long range and mid range models are generally trash

IMO it’s going to be perfect football weather.
100% agree. I love mostly cloudy and mild/warm with no rain for this time of year. Today's 12Z models all show tomorrow's high temps to be in the 72-78F range, with dewpoints in the low/mid-60s (a bit muggy, but not sultry) and mostly cloudy skies, but no significant rain between noon and 11 pm. A few sprinkles or a brief, light shower can't be ruled out, but no models show more than 0.01" of rain, which is truly nuisance level if it falls and it's more likely to be completely dry than to have sprinkles or a light shower. And winds should be fairly light, but refreshing, in the ~10 mph range most of the day.

Dew Point low to mid 60s? Given that a few weeks ago it hit 80 a couple of days that's great.

No rain, high of 77 and mostly cloudy, I'll take tailgating in that any day.

It's down to 74° here after the rain went through.

Temps in the upper 70s for most in CNJ (into the low 80s SW of Trenton) and that should be the max (78F in NB right now), as the backdoor cool front is through our region with a NE flow behind it, so temps will likely drop off a bit through the afternoon, but only dropping into the low 70s by kickoff and only down into the upper 60s by the end of the game. We're seeing more sunshine than expected (that's why the temps are a few degrees higher than forecast yesterday), but clouds should be on the increase by late afternoon, although there shouldn't be any rain until after midnight. Nice 8-12 mph breeze out there now, which should continue until around kickoff, but is forecast to drop off a bit after that. Great day for tailgates and football. Heading out soon. Go RU!!!
