Headed up with my wife and two young daughters. What are the best spots to hit. Basically looking for food, booze and football related activities around the stadium on Friday.

We have a Boardwalk pre-game, usually 3-4 hours before kickoff. Fun things for kids, a ride (last week was ferris wheel), bouncy house things, and food trucks.

Food- cheap and good- Stuff Yer Face on Easton--bolis. Booze there too.

There are higher end/more expensive spots too. What do you like?

Would you like a directory of corn mazes in the area? 😜

Where are you staying?

What’s your game parking situation ?
Looking to figure that all out. Having the little ones with me, just looking for the easiest in and out. Was also looking at just taking an Uber, but didn't know how shitty the traffic was around the stadium and if that was worth it or not.

The stadium is in piscataway .
Friday day you can Uber to New Brunswick - that is where the main campus and stuffyer face is . Bars , restaurants , and the campus to see there .
then head over to the stadium early via shuttle bus or Uber and do the boardwalk . Or maybe someone here will invite you to a tailgate.

Postgame you might need to go back on shuttle bus to New Brunswick and then get an Uber from there . I am not sure what the Uber pickup situation is postgame is so you might need to get away from the stadium so the Uber can get to you

You can look on this forum for parking passes. Yellow is the easiest in/out lot.

Also, some on Stub Hub. Silver and Black are not terrible lots either:

@leodisflowers The Boardwalk is a great place for you with 2 young kids. Last week there were 14 different food/dessert trucks. Games (free!) To win prizes, rides (free!), Bouncy houses (free!). There's a band at the bandstand & beer garden for the adults as well. It opens 4 hours before kickoff.

Not sure when you get in but your hotel is basically in an industrial park... nothing close by to walk to. An Uber can take you to Stage House Tavern for food/drink or, as mentioned above, to George Street in New Brunswick which is a pedestrian walkway. All of the restaurants have tables & chairs outside for Al fresco dining (think The Haymarket but with lots of food as well as drinks).
Thomoas Sweets chocolate shop on Easton Ave (short walk from George Street) is great for chocolate & ice cream for the kids as well.

Rutgers fans are friendly. If you walk thru the lots and say hi people will offer you a drink or some food.

Enjoy your time here!

You can see some of the Boardwalk goings in here

Just a heads up for you. I tried to Uber back to New Brunswick after a game last year and they could not figure out how to come get me. After trying numerous times, I ended up walking back.

A good amount of the places in the links and sublinks are permanently closed.

You walked back to Colorado ? 😂

Not surprised the stadium area and Busch campus is a mess for Uber pickups postgame .

That goes for almost every football stadium. Most importantly, it’s almost impossible to get an Uber because so many people need them. That’s why you have to walk a little or take the bus away from the stadium.

The boardwalk is indeed great for the kids. Couple rides, couple games, spray tat, balloon, and caricature person. Not including the food, everything is also FREE (tips accepted). Opens 4 hours before the game. Lines get kinda long when it’s under 2 hours to game time.
At about 3 hours before the game until about 2:15 prior, the cheerleaders and marching band playing by the stadium (you’ll know when as they march through the boardwalk). Our football team arrives towards the 2:20 prior to game mark. Unless you hate Rutgers football (and why would you?!) I think it’s always cool to experience the collegiate atmosphere!
Enjoy everything except the final score!

If you're considering parking and tailgating, you'd best start looking now to get a parking pass. If you want to go that route, we can give you advice on which lots are best for what you need.

As mentioned above, most tailgates are quite welcoming if you want to join them. A lot of people park in the day of game lots like at the RAC, and then catch the shuttle bus over and walk to a tailgate.

How young are your daughters? Will they be able to sit through a whole game? If not you'll need to work that into your plans.

Here's a graphic of the current parking layout:

Please feel free to ask plenty of questions and keep this thread going. We love having our opponents' fans (well, other than State Penn) join us.

Agreed, very good pizza. But that's a decent ways up Easton Ave, more in Somerset. Would have to drive there.
He says he’s staying in Somerset at the Doubletree. That’s right near there. Short distance as the crow flies but not sure about walking since the DT is on a dead end road. I used to work on Davidson at MetLife before they moved the whole operation to NC, then SHI took it over. Lubrano’s was my go-to when Rome in Dunellen was closed

The Doubletree Somerset I believe.
The hotel is about 10 minutes away from downtown New Brunswick, which is where the college bars are.

If you want to get sandwiches for lunch/tailgating before you head over to the stadium, go 5 minutes the other way into South Bound Brook and go to Joe's Meat Market which was recently on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. You won't be disappointed. Pro tip order half of what you think you want their sandwiches are huge.

While not college bar places, if you like craft beer there is a pretty good brewery next to the hotel, Jersey Cyclone. It's in an industrial building that is a street over, not sure if you can walk there from the hotel or not, but I think you can. They don't serve food, because of stupid NJ laws, but you can order from somewhere else or bring in food. They allow kids to sit at the tables with you while you enjoy a couple of flights. The next street over is Taphouse 20/20 which has good bar food and an excellent beer list.

Enjoy your time in Jersey! Are the kids school aged or are they younger? I would recommend different options depending on that.

If you’re in town early enough I always recommend Stuff yer Face or Old Man Raffertys as they are both as classic New Brunswick spots as you get.

google maps makes me think you CAN walk from somerset doubletree to jersey cyclone.. slightly creative walking leaving one parking lot across grass to another road....

And...

you can drive there also without hitting the main road

If my wife and 2 young kids flew across the country for a Friday night game I think I would have a helicopter on standby to pick us up. In the blue lot thread there's a guy who knows a chef who knows a guy who can make a call and get a sheriff escort out of there pronto for $100.

Hope you get to enjoy some Jersey fall fun on Sat. Lots Of weekend kid stuff, fall festivals, etc.

My bad !
I missed the Double Tree part. Was thinking from the stadium.

Just to set the right expectations, it's not as good as Boiler Brewing in Lincoln.

Not like Lincoln where the stadium is in the town. Amazing tailgate scene but the stadium is not near any downtown, the city is across the river. Lots of food options at the boardwalk so not to worry. No restaurants walkable from the stadium with kids though.

Just go to the boardwalk at the stadium which has everything...food booze etc...Barstool sports will be there at 5:30 so will be great

This thread is hilarious. Did most of you recommending the NYC subways not see the "two young daughters" part. Lol.

Get to the stadium and enjoy the pregame. Plenty there. If you can sneak out afterwards get to New Brunswick across the river and tell the wife we kidnapped you in exchange for you admitting our corn is actually better.
