I do not like the plans unveiled yesterday.

If we are B1G we have to think and plan B1G. If we are going to ask for money, ask for a lot of money as in B1G money.

I like the Hale Center renovations, but all of HPSS should be for football. The South entrance build out should be for the visiting team and expansion of facilities for the football team. No soccer, field hockey or whatever.

We need and should have separate facilities for each sport at Rutgers.

I am also concerned about placing a practice facility on top of a parking garage. They better have great ventilation for the garage. Fumes rise and I would not want the practice facility to become unusable. That Is why they usually do not built bedrooms over garages.

All in all, it is a start, but I truly hope that B1G donors and corporations step up and donate enough money so that we can do this right and not on the cheap.

The plans are underwhelming to say the least. And the timeline of 15 years out is ludicrous. I can only imagine what our peers in the BiG will be building by then. Rutgers goes small-time once again in typical RU fashion.

Unfortunately Rutgers doesn't have donor lining up to put their name on a building...

So why don't one of you call Donald Trump and ask him to donate 1 of the $9B he's worth. For that we'll re-name the school to Trump University, the stadium to Trump Field at Trump Stadium, the new dorm on Eason Ave., Trump Dorms, etc.. With $1B we could think really B1G and do everything on your list.

Bedrooms over garages is actually quite common in cities. I'm not sure why you think this is an issue. Placing the practice facility over the parking garage is a good use of space.

Yea I'm sure they haven't thought through fumes riding from the garage, lol wtf. I'm fine with the plans, this is just the skeleton, the fine details is what will leap frog us past the competition.

Your last sentence shows all that is wrong with Rutgers Alum and fans. Why is it that you want others to step up to donate but then say "we, do this right". You are not "we" unless you decide it is time to open your wallet and not expect everyone else to but then complain about RU if they don't. Do we need big donors and corporations, yes. But WE need to help and realize every dollar counts.

As you ever been to a city? Buildings often have parking garage below them. It a non issue.

Don't get caught up in the details, OP. The plans are a guidepost, as opposed to a concrete specification as to exactly what will be built. The plans are a conservative, yet realistic blueprint of what can be built.

For instance, if we raise $50M, towards the renovation of Hale Center, you're going to see a far more significant renovation. For instance, It is my dream that Hale Center include an indoor practice facility.

Also, if you look at the picture of the bb facility rendering, as best as I can tell, the parking garage is next to the basketball facility, as opposed to beneath it.

This is a really shortsighted post, but one I'd expect from an RU fan.

I think alot of the Football only People are not happy with this plan. I myself as a support of alot of different Rutgers Sports see a Great Idea.

If you actually read the plan and look at the Livingston Sports District Is very well thought out.
If Livingston is Completed the way it is designed, Every single Sport with the exception of Rowing and Swimming and Football will all be based on the Livingston campus.

What is further than that if you read between the lines is building out the Locker Room s in the South Entrance would finish a space that would eventually be turned over to Football when those Sports move to Livingston.

Moving Soccer to Livingston also opens up the possibility of expanding the Stadium in what I Call "Phase 10"

If you move all of the Olympic sports to Livingston you no longer need Yucak Field, or any of the other fields adjacent to the Bubble, and you can build out a indoor outdoor facility " Think Giants Practice Facility" where the current Football Practice Fields are, eliminate the bubble and soccer, lacrosse practice fields and turn them into parking.

I've been to ttfp and Indiana and Illinois and Louisville and The U. It's actually embarrassing when our non-football teams welcome other schools to The Banks.

The plans are solid. FAMILY means more than football. The other sports are going to have competitive facilities. Hopefully, that brings fans in.

The plans are fine. More than fine. Reality is that it will be tough for us to raise the money to complete what is laid out. THe idea that we are going to do this immense football renovation too - when our football facilities arent nearly as behind as the other sports. In other sports the facilities are an actual hinderance.

Or we could expend alot of money to get football from 50 to 40 and continue to have the worst overall department in the conference. That seems like a solid plan too.

Football is fine. It is basically every other sport that is in the stone age that will be getting the attention and rightfully so. When you have HS level club sports with better facilities than Rutgers, it is no wonder why those sports suck big time. You guys need to read the report. We have sports that share recreational space to practice/compete. Do you know what that means? That would be like the football team practicing on the intramural practice fields by Silvers (Busch campus). If you were blessed enough to have a son/daughter get a D1 offer from RU in an Olympic sport you would send them to some dilapidated program like that? No. Hence, why most of our sports suck. If we had donors that dropped big bucks instead of passing the buck, the plans would've been much bigger. Let's see if we can even accomplish this - my guess is it is a long shot.

Yeah, it's a real problem. That's why there are no apartment buildings, offices, or arenas built above parking garages anywhere. Duhhhhhh.

That's a stupid complaint but typical of this forum.

The timeline is for the Master Plan for the entire University not just athletics. Athletics is only a small part of the many proposed projects which include new dorms, academic buildings as well as lifestyle upgrades to all campuses in New Brunswick, Newark and Camden.

There is a chart in the Master Plan that has the major athletic projects, BB and football facilities, projected to be completed in 5 years.

Notwithstanding the sports facility plans themselves, you are showing yourself clueless with the parking garage comment. Parking garages are not only unsightly, but have to be extremely sturdy (along with hospitals, they are the only structures that don't allow any design factor reduction).

Therefore, it is ideal to use them as an underground (or bottom level) base for residential, commercial, and/or athletic facility construction. This is done especially in crowded cities (Manhattan is a prime example) to make efficient use of extremely limited and valuable space..

When Michigan State came to play baseball, I was talking to a few of the guys in their bullpens. Nice guys, completely aghast at the lack of facilities. They kind of just pointed at the soccer fields next to the baseball/softball stadium and tentatively asked if that was where our soccer team played. The fact that they'd even consider that as a possibility is ludicrous, but almost understandable.

This is the Spartans' Baseball stadium.

Not saying we need huge facilities for every sport, but not being flat out embarrassing would be nice.

The plans will put RU Wrestling in good shape to recruit in the B1G. This sport is also bringing in revenues. $$$$

One of my favorite things about the college World Series is seeing their facilities. Texas A&M was ridiculous.

Listen 78,

I have donated plenty to Rutgers. I am sure that I am in the top 10% of doners. It's YOUR turn now. I gave my million.

What is underwhelming about the plan is lack of grander vision. Instead it was more of a "here is best we can probably get." You inspire with big, bold, grand vision and then working your @$$ off to fulfill it best you can. Here, we basically said, hey, we can put an additional bedroom on the house, paint it, re-sod and it should look just an estate. Rutgers needs better visionaries.

But you aren't going to sell the donors on a plan they know will never happen. These upgrades are a great start and can be added to as money increases. I sit on a local board of directors and one of our keys to fundraising is making sure people can actually see where the money is going. It makes it easier to get more out of them in the future. My last bid donation to RU was to the football training room.....I've yet to see where the money went because I can't get in on game days. I get that but it's harder to write big checks when you don't see the outcome.

People at the Foundation and Athletics have always been happy to arrange a visit to facilities that I had donated $$$$. You just need to ask.

It took DECADES of winning in BB and FB to build up the fan bases and bankrolls to get the facilities they have now. And you are basically saying - RU is just going to convince people to give their money to it if only they put a truly unrealistic plan out there. Its nonsense.

Or to put it another way - if RU says - here is our plan - it will cost $200 million to make the gold plated combined facility come true, and you are a donor, are you going to bother to give knowing that RU has basically never raised more than $10 million for an athletic project before? If you dont think RU will get anywhere close, and you can be sure that the final product wont look anything like whats being sold, thats a strong DISINCENTIVE to give.

The kind of people who give away millions or tens of millions of dollars generally arent going to fall for a fancy vision. They are going to want to see concrete proof that you know what you are talking about. Its the chumps giving $100 and thinking they are making a difference that get sold by the gold plated version that will never become reality.

But your real problem is that you think this isnt the gold plated vision. But in realist it is - its much more than RU can afford right now, and would take massive fundraising of the type that RU has NEVER done for athletics (remember the $3 million or whatever we got for the stadium?) to really make much of this plan a reality.

To go back to your analogy. The issue is - RUs house is falling down. Its might be nice to dream of winning the lottery or getting a big promotion and building an estate. But right now, RU needs to fix the roof and do some mold abatement, just so for its own health. Putting on a bedroom and resodding IS the stretch goal.

That might be disappointing for you to hear - but the images and testimonials in this very thread support it. We have HS/D3 level facilities in alot of sports.

They would be best served breaking out each sport individually and stating clearly what they are looking to do. There is some broad brush strokes in the original design doc but nothing overly specific for many of the sports. Hopefully, that will come.

Of course that will all come but Basketball and Football they want to get done by 2019. Everything should be done by 2030 but the more money that is raise the faster everything will happen and the nicer things will be.

Soccer & LAX are staying on Busch. Nothing in the 2030 plans or beyond suggests otherwise. I think you're confused by the 2 multipurpose fields on Livingston.

The lax team better have at least a new locker room and meeting room facilities well before 2030 or there is going to be a lot of losing in that program. We are woefully behind in that area.

On a side note - the map at the beginning of the Cook section would seem to indicate that the property immediately across the pond going down Ryders Lane on the right is also RU - I think its in East Brunswick.

So its really RU-NB/P/NoB/E/HP/EB

Derleider is spot on...people bitching about this have no clue to know anything about rutgers athletic infrastructure and how poor it is and what the word FEASIBLE means
