If the OC is still coaching in a bowl game …

Lots of big games left . Even if it’s a QB coach, this means Greg poached someone from a good or even big time program. It might be a great hire and a huge upgrade from a hs coach calling plays !! Greg may have hit a home run hire here
Would love to believe that. But Kevin Wilson from Ohio State was hired and announced as HC somewhere (Tulsa?) but he agreed to coach in their CFP games.

Yup that's one instance and there are many others. Plenty of teams lose staff before their bowl games, including big ones. The CFP is the only thing and even then as I've said moves can still be announced even if the coach stays on through the game with their current team. NFL is possible but again I've seen moves from there as well like Liam Coen back to UK from the Rams. UK OC -> Rams OC -> UK OC. Jake Peetz joined the Nebraska staff and now has gone back to the NFL, so you even had a move back and forth. There's really no reason not to announce a move even if the move doesn't happen right away.

At this point, imo it doesn't matter. All the important deadlines for recruiting and portal this year have passed so announcing it whenever doesn't really matter anymore. It's why you see such a flurry of movement with coaches etc..a lot of key dates are compressed in December so coaches and ADs would like key parts of their staff in place for those time periods. The flurry is over now so imo the when doesn't make much difference anymore.

I doubt he is waiting to announce a hire due to playing in a bowl game NFL etc…. As rutgersguy said above “at this point it doesn’t matter.” All the important dates regarding recruiting and portal have come and gone. Schiano is waiting for someone, anyone to say yes to the opportunity.

There is zero chance the plan included waiting for a NFL coach to become available.
What if he doesn't get fired?
You just waited until Janaury, lost out on numerous other candidates and are now scrambling?

From a risk perspective - that seems to go against every fiber of HC Schiano.

I've been reading a lot about this Drew Merryweather guy. Or maybe it's Mehringer. Something like that. Would be a home run.

What about Joe Brady? LSU's PGC for their Natty, OC for Rhule at Carolina. He's now Buffalo's QB coach working with Josh Allen.
I’ve thought of him but I’ve read he doesn’t want to coach in college. College HC who knows but college OC I’d guess probably not.

Lots of big games left . Even if it’s a QB coach, this means Greg poached someone from a good or even big time program. It might be a great hire and a huge upgrade from a hs coach calling plays !! Greg may have hit a home run hire here
Cracked the code, and figured out what was going on a week or two ago in this pic. Greg told Murphy the OC job was his when his current term expires if nobody else accepts the job. That's why he has his fingers crossed.

Hopefully not.
Buffalo is potentially playing until early February. We really waiting that long?

No matter who he hires there will be Schiano fans on this board who will claim it is a home run, the proof will be in how well the offense performs starting with Northwestern next year. There are 3 very winnable home games to start the year, this team needs to 3-0, or even 2-1 with a close loss to VT, going into the Michigan game, no excuses. And then after Michigan four more winnable games, including a reasonable stretch of B1G games against Wisconsin, MSU, and Indiana.

There is no reason not to name the OC at this point. Greg's legacy is dwindling by the day

No way we beat Wisconsin next year.
agreed..

.of the 4 games after Michigan.... Wagner and Indiana are "winnable games" RU will not be favored vs MSU who has picked up some quality .and clearly not vs Wisconsin....

Winnable in my mind doesn't necessarily mean favored, but certainly games if we play and are coached well are not out of the realm of the possibility of winning. Wisconsin and MSU are not Michigan and OSU, or even PSU. In the fourth year of a rebuild Rutgers should be competitive against all of those teams, otherwise, what is the point.

Not likely. Usually the staff member would let the team know and RU would announce just before the bowl to get some free publicity during the bowl game.

GS has probably crossed many names off his list after repeated “no thanks”.
