Eli Apple, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Shaquille Calhoun, Corey Clement. We'd have a pretty great secondary and running game but no QB to throw the ball.

Garret Sickles, Brandon Bell, Saeed Blacknall, Manny Bowen, Jason Cabinda, Mike Gesicki, Chris Gulla, Austin Johnson, Wendy Laurent, Brandan Mahon, Angelo Mangiro all have started game this year for Penn State

Wimbush would be the best QB option.

Certainly wouldn't be talking about the QB's arm strength.

Noah brown currently injured at OSU. I would certainly wait till he is healthy again.

Just talking about this and seeing how far away we are from even having a good fraction of these guys depresses me.

Imagine how good Texas would if they got everyone from Texas.... But we all know it doesn't work that way. Some of these guys don't even play in their own state for HS, why would they stay "in state" for college? Do you guys honestly think a guy like Minkah Fitzpatrick is going to come here over Bama?
Flood tried selling these guys on the whole "dream team" thing. But it only takes 1 guy to not buy in, and the whole package folds

Would take Austin Johnson and Geiscki in a second. Everyone else on that list? Eh...

About two would start for Rutgers.

I like Florida recruits:
Hicks
Grant

I like the Florida, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, + anywhere else guys too. F u c k adding more names to the OP's depressing list. How pathetic do you want to be? People have known for decades about NJ players and keeping them in-state. If they want to play for RU, great, but if not then life goes on. Just don't say you "rep New Jersey" or bullsht like that. Piscataway's own Anthony Davis summed it up best

If Rutgers is so talented how did Penn State win by 25? Is the coaching staff so bad there? I bet more than half of those guys would start at Rutgers.

It was a bad game. You know, just like PSU played vs Temple. If those players you mentioned are so great why did they lose to Temple?

Cause Temple has a good veteran team. There are many guys on Temple team who could start on Penn State right now.

I'm not saying some of those PSU nj kids wouldn't start on our team but the only two who I personally feel would make a ton of difference are Johnson and Geisicki. Just my opinion.

Partly, yes. The offensive game planning this season has been... rough, to put it kindly.

Also, while they're starting to pull it together, our defense kinda evaporated between the end of last season and the start of this one, if you hadn't noticed. CB Barnwell (academics/arrested/dismissed), CB Boggs (arrested/dismissed), CB Peele (arrested/dismissed), S Stephenson (arrested/dismissed), CB Dailey (arrested/dismissed), DT Hamilton (injured, out for season)...

To your list, though:
Mike Gesicki - Likely starting.
Austin Johnson - Likely starting
Angelo Mangiro - Possibly starting.
Garret Sickles - Probably in rotation, but not starting.
Saeed Blacknall - Probably in rotation, but not starting.
Manny Bowen - Likely a backup.
Jason Cabinda - Likely a backup.
Brandon Bell - Likely a backup.
Chris Gulla - Likely a backup
Wendy Laurent - Likely backup
Brandan Mahon - Likely backup

The secondary losses is not the reason you lost to Penn State. You gave up 330 yards rushing to a team who had struggled to move the ball. It was a terrible front seven. I find it hard to believe none of those linebackers could start or a guy like Sickles at DE. I just find it hard to believe that a defense ranked 85th in the country in total defense is so talented that only 1 of the starting 5 players on the nation 10th ranked in total defense could start for them.

Add Elijah Shumate to the secondary.

That being said, Texas doesn't get every Texas recruit, Ohio State doesn't get every Ohio recruit, etc. etc.

Yes, and 129 of those rushing yards came on two plays which were defensive communication breakdowns with players out of position to make a tackle at the second level.

The defense is starting to get better in that area, and also in the middle with new starters this year at NT, DT, and MLB. We only have 3 guys on this defense who were starting last year. It's taking them some time to get chemistry, and our DCoordinator has also been a bit rough in the early going this year (possibly trying to put the pieces back together after losing so many players).

And as has been said, it was a bad game. The following game, we held Kansas to 2.1 ypc, who has averaged 3.5 ypc in their other games. Against MSU, we held them to 3.5 ypc, who had been averaging 4.5 ypc coming into the game.

With your defensive comparisons, though:
Johnson would very likely start over Joseph
Sickels would be in the rotation, but may not be starting over Mera/Lambert (though he might)
Bell likely wouldn't be starting over Longa or Gause
Cabinda likely wouldn't be starting over Lewis
Bowen isn't even regular starter for you guys, and wouldn't start ahead of Longa or Gause.

And yes, you're the 10th ranked in total defense.... three of the six teams you've played are also ranked lower than 100th in total offense (Temple 101, Army 112, SD State 115) and the only team that you've played ranked better than 50th (Indiana 31) was without their starting QB and RB (the second leading rusher in the Big Ten).

I would gladly take Zettel, Nassib, and Johnson off your hands, though... but only one of them is from NJ.

Penn St. won, no excuses. The facts are Rutgers had a little going on during that time that was fresh out of the oven. Also a fact was the best player on either team happened not to be on the field that day.

You caught as at a very fortuitous time and won. Leave it at that.

The penn state game got away from us. I didn't think we were going to win in that environment to begin with, but the off field distractions that week of losing Carroo and having our HC suspended compounded matters to make it worse. Not to mention as much as PSU tries to downplay it they came out very fired up for our game much like we did for the MSU game. They beat us pretty bad...you tip your caps to them and move on.

I get what you are saying but the state of Texas has Univ of Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, and Houston. NJ has RU.
