I'm perplexed...

Armin has trouble wih facts. Golden did get a raw deal at the U.

I'm not even sure what facts you guys are talking about and I've certainly not disputed any.

Golden did a good job at Temple and crapped the bed at Miami.

I've always said I would have supported any coach that was hired. Ash, Golden, Cristobal, Schiano, etc. because nobody really knows how things are gonna pan out and they all would give us hope. I certainly would not be bad mouthing any of them like you are.

That may have been your best reply yet. No real insult there. A statement of your views. I'm actually ok with it although I don't agree about Golden for the reason stated. Any coach walking into the two programs he walked into needs time. He was handcuffed at Miami and they should have let him have a couple years without any sanctions. He did a decent job of recruiting despite the sanctions and his successor will benefit from the lack of sanctions, the recruits he's brought in and the fact he cleaned up a program that was in total disarray when he arrived.

If you take out the first two turnaround years at Temole and Miami (as we do for Schiano at Rutgers) it tells a totally different story. We can't give Schiano a bye on the turnaround years and not Golden.

Just my opinion,

Not sure why I am jumping in here, but who cares about Golden?

He is not here and never will be.

IMO, it's time to talk about Ash (and not question whether he was the guy we should have hired. It just looks bad for our fanbase to question our new coach.)

While I agree it would be good to have a string on the way forward, why can't some discuss the topic of whether there were more qualified candidates. It's worthy of discussion on a discussion board. There could be two separate discussion on both topics and you can choose to participate in or the other. Instead, we seem to be confusing the two. I hope Ash succeeds. I also don't believe he was the best candidate for the job. My thoughts are mutually exclusive and I can separate the two. Others should be able to do so as well unless we just want a board that sits around and sing kumbaya.

That said, I respect your opinion and like the fact you did it without insults.

Go RU!

At this point, who cares, it's been almost a month, but if you insist on having a discussion, let me ask you, who do you think were more qualified candidates? Give me realistic candidates and take into account of our budget constraint and other tangibles.

This thread is officially dead. A beaten horse. Today the Coach Ash era begins. Re-read my posts in this thread if you want an answer to your question but no use in polluting Day1 with a rehashing of what has already been said, but you and I agree on at least one thing - the self-imposed budget constraint limited our choices and that is a whole other discussion for another day. Today, lets just enjoy having our new coach all to ourselves. A new day is dawning and Rutgers Football is emerging from the black cloud with a whole new attitude reminiscent of the first days of the Schiano era.

Finally, a post I can get 100% behind from you but after re-reading your past posts, you gave Golden, Pelini & Schiano as alternative choices:

Golden - I gave my reasons on why not Golden in this thread
Pelini - A PR nightmare for RU
Schiano - didn't want to come here and we couldn't afford his demands anyway

As you said above, it's a new day starting today at RU and let's all get behind the new staff and program and look forward to a bright future!

I'm a tOSU fan that has followed Rutgers since before realignment added you guys to the B1G. I've lurked on your message boards to get an idea how your fanbase thinks and also check out nj.com articles. Since coach Ash was hired, I sense a lot of optimism and also a lot of handwringing over his staff hirings. What got me to write this is the fact that almost 100 people commented on an nj.com article about the hiring of an assistant DB coach.
Is this really that important to the Rutgers fan base who Ash hires at that level ? I personally don't have a clue who is in that spot at tOSU and could really care less. I doubt it would even rate a mention in the paper, and they live and breathe tOSU athletics.
Is the fanbase really that interested in the hire or are you guys just arguing with each other in the comments section just because?

NJ people, including Rutgers fans, do have an unfortunate tendency to tear ourselves down. But don't underestimate the amounts of trolls, especially from Syracuse (many Cuse grads live in NJ). Cuse football collapsed at the same time RU got decent under Schiano. The Cuse fans blame their own collapse on RU getting serious about competing in football. The Cuse fan board has 119 page thread dedicated to trashing RU (while their fans simultaneously claim RU is not worthy of being considered a Cuse rival). Reading between the lines, the Cuse fans think RU must fail for Cuse to come back. So they endlessly troll against RU.
