I'm sick and F'n tired of the media deciding who our AD and coaches are. It's disgusting that we fired TP because espn said we should. We fired Rice not because of the tape, but because of the reaction across social media. Now I'm really starting to wonder if that bastard politti continues this nonsense that's his atrocity of an administration will fold. Again.
You may be right. This whole timeline is reading like a strategic hit job.
Not that I believe the arrests were delayed for political purposes, the timing on those mostly makes sense. It's the start of the school year, peoplw were scattered across the state. And it seems like the issues started up again once the fall term started. So grab the suspects before Labor Day weekend and try to get a handle on things..
BUT, as I've been reading the coverage this evening:
1,) The SL stories are steadily building on themselves, and their terminology and choice of word usage is leaking into the NYC and national media. The SL has essentially turned these stories into a package that can easily be picked up by other media.
2.) The timing of the email leaks (and the fact that it involved Barnwell) is just too close in time to the arrests. That whole email issue should still be under wraps inside the university.
3.) The report that KF ignored academic support's advice dropping yesterday.
4.) The SL's sources, including two referenced tonight, a members of the university's governing boards, and a long-serving senior administration official. Notice how the SL uses the term boards. That leads me to believe that the source is on the BOT which is a huge 50+ board with a number of members with axes to grind against Barchi, the athletic department, and the football and basketball teams.
These high-level sources may also have connections with the prosecutors office, NBPD, RUPD, etc. who may have alerted them to the investigation at some point. So they knew something was coming that was pretty serious, just not what and when.
5.) The SL has scalps from RU and always wants more. Together with the axe grinders, they have done and can do even more damage to the university, though they think they are being faithful and loyal to some ill formed idea of what Rutgers is.
6.) I also wouldn't be surprised that there's a power play brewing against Greg Brown too, since he's been a long-time champion of Rutgers athletics and in Rutgers position as a large, elite public university.
This is not to deny that there are very real issues here.
The email issue+the arrests+the suspensions of a Top 2 QB and the Captain do point to some serious issues. And these issues could point to potential issues around lack of institutional control if they are not checked.
BUT, these are issues that the university should be addressing quietly within the university. And then if warranted a mid-season suspension of KF,or if warranted an end of season termination.
However, this is unfolding way too publicly and way too fast, not to have some element of design and planning behind it. And some supposedly very smart people are playing right into the SL's hands, and the hands of the very vocal and prominent anti-RU leadership in NJ.
