Lost in all the news surrounding Leonte, yesterday the updated AP was released. One thing that stood out to me the most wasn't the fact that SEC hype train from last week was apparent, but the fact that MSU just beat #7 Oregon and only got bumped up to #4 and is still behind TCU at #3. TCU meanwhile has barely squeeked by Minnesota last week and just had a cupcake this weekend. Why is logic still lacking after week 2?

Didn't you know any conference that has their own TV network (non ESPN) is a lesser conference

Auburn in the top ten is a total joke. The early polls are nothing more than the hype machine at work.

"Auburn in the top ten is a total joke. The early polls are nothing more than the hype machine at work."

If anyone had watched their QB play they'd no how far this team is from a Top ten team. The pollsters couldn't have them drop that far because that would only emphasis what a joke it was to rank them so highly to begin with.

College football really needs someone of importance to start a movement to end the rankings until week 5 or something. All the early rankings do is help conferences like the SEC seem better than they are.

Rankings have nothing to do with nothing. Just something ESPN uses to put a number next to some teams names during games to get people who flip through the channels to stop flipping.

For some reason teams that appear more on ESPN's networks are more likely to have numbers next to their name than teams that play less on their networks.

Every year there are at least 8 teams in the preseason top 25 that finish the season unranked. In a typical year, the number is about 10, or roughly 40% of the preseason poll. Auburn, Arkansas, and Missouri demonstrated they are not ranking-worthy teams who are ranked solely based on their conference affiliation. You could make that case about Georgia too, who beat Vanderbilt by 17 because their QB situation is worse than RU's. During their telecast the commentator said, "You have to be able to complete passes to win at this level" regarding Georgia QBs.

Auburn did drop 12 spots after their miserable performance on Saturday. Had they actually lost the game, they would likely have fallen out of the rankings altogether.

While I despise ESPiN as much as any other college sports fan does, I don't blame them for the fact that 10 SEC teams were ranked last week. They don't control the rankings, as the voters come from all over the place. They do INFLUENCE the rankings with their hype of certain conferences/ teams but I blame the voters for drinking the ESPiN Kool Aid.

i would disagree a bit since it tends to drive the whole playoff thing. Hard to teams to come from way back and jump over other teams that don't lose..even if really not as good... (in general). Oh..edit..completely agree on the rest regarding ESPN, etc...
