Indiana 5 Thoughts

Agree with everything except your take on Paul M. He contributed 3 key plays last night. The crucial 3, getting inside and grabbing the offensive rebound among the trees, and the beautiful pass to Myles for the dunk. He works extremely well with Myles. Gets him involved. Tons of assists for dunks so far. Our team defense is great. Not sure where you see him being constantly exposed. How many easy buckets did Indy get?

so again, I said he's not ready for big ten athletes yet. He's a freshman, he'll get better. He did not have a good game last night. He was a liability. He was dribbling around way too much. He was getting caught in the air. He simply had a bad game. And he's been having bad games against good competition. S&C will do wonders for him because at the moment right now he is simply just not athletic enough to contribute at the level needed. That's not to say he shouldn't play at all, however there is no reason why he should ever play for more than a 4 minute stretch to simply give someone a breather.
You sound like a moron saying this after giving Jacob Young a hand job all preseason before you STFU while he sucked for the first 1/3 of the season.

Kyk1827,

Totally disagree with your assessment on Mulcahy. He is getting better on defense. He is not the quickest, but he is able to hold his own and will only get better. He is still a little afraid to shoot the ball but his court awareness is really good and his choices will continue to improve.

He is only a freshman and the future is very bright for Paul, including this year.

Best of Luck,
Groz
I was pleasantly surprised how well he bodied up Smith in the post after switches a couple of times. His D was good tonight. He made some mistakes on O tonight though. He needed to play less when he was stopping the flow like he did in the 1st half. He made a few very good plays in the 2nd half

Thank goodness he is a Scarlet Knight. Attractive to a recruit named Cliff who will receive those passes.

Paul does look a little slow at times. Don't really think that's debatable. I also don't think it has hurt us much. It's not like he's getting burned for easy buckets all the time. He is a great communicator and plays good help D. Sure he will have better games and worse games but so do everyone on the roster. He didn't have his best game but he still made some plays such as the big 3 and rebound. His passing and vision are elite. Maybe some games the matchup is a little tougher for him and in those games maybe he plays a few less minutes.

Total team effort. Great D & really good on the boards. Once again the missed FT's are going to cost us at some point.

Ooh this one's good:
Wisconsin giving the history & Maryland giving the ranking are understood somewhat but RUTGERS?? I don’t care who they got or what they done if IU loses to RUTGERS everything we believe in IU is IRRELEVANT!!! I may change my mind if they make the elite 8 or final 4 but as a BORN HOOSIER, we can’t lose to Rutgers no matter what

Yet they have lost to Rutgers 3 times in the last 4 games they have played against us. Some of these Indiana folks are a whole different kind.

Hoosier Daddy?!?

Way off on Mulcahy

He is doing so many little things well. Simpleton thinking saying he's not quick enough to straight up guard some of these smaller guys. his help defense is spectacular and he brings a toughness to the team that is clearly an asset.

Keep buying his stock...

By the way I'm watching this game for the third time. And I really have to emphasize that those people knocking Mulcahy have no clue what they're watching.

He had 2 bad turnovers which btw are not common for him. But all of the other stuff he does is just so important. He's a guy you want to highlight to your players that you are coaching. He just does all of the little things well...which is why he is playing so.much and which is why our 'stars' can shine. And by the way if you watch our players are actually deferring the ball to him in key spots. This body language and behavior tells me that he is becoming a leader on this team. And he is a true freshman.

I just could not let this go because the criticism he received in this thread is just so off base it's ridiculous.

Even though the second one led to a basket he also had two key blocks. He is not afraid to mix it up and rebound and also even though it doesn't lead to a direct block or a rebound his positioning disrupts the opponent shots quite frequently. I suggest those knocking him watch that closely.

And one more thing on that one play where everyone feels he was exposed on the baseline ...it is because he got back and was covering two guys. The guy that beat him to the baseline was not even his man. Yeah uninformed fans will say that he got beat. He didn't get beat. He was covering for a mistake for somebody else.

well what do you consider "alot" because at this point I really don't see a reason why he should play more than 12-14 mins a night.

Well aren't we lucky you're not the coach.

Listen you have some good take sometimes but when you get something stuck in your head you are determined to keep debating it to show you are right. Even when you are dead wrong.

By the way how is Derrick Henry doing these days?

Hes done fine why? LOL.

look im right alottttttt more than I am wrong. I said wed be better without deshawn freeman, i said wed be better without eugene and adding yeboah, im now saying were better with jacob young caleb and montez playing more minutes than mulcahy. Mulcahy isnt a plus player at this point and ya know what? Thats fine. Hes 18, he’ll get better, hes not ready for big time minutes right now though. You can disagree, that is fine.

i guess my question to you would be are we a better team when jacob and are in the game or when paul is? Im not saying dont play him at all, just saying theres no reason, absolutely no reason he should ever play an 8 minute stretch or 30 mins in a night

I brought up Henry because you and I debated whether or not he would be good in the pros. You were insistent over and over that he wouldn't be. But I got it we are all right sometimes in wrong sometimes. I am busting your nuts because I think you forget sometimes some of your takes which is why you think you are right way more than you are wrong. But anyway let's move on from that ;)

Rather than answer your questions let me ask you this question. You obviously respect pikiell and see what he has done with this team. So why do you think Coach has Mulcahy playing more and more? Again I think you are not appreciating some of the things that don't show up on the stat sheet. I actually think that the way Coach has managed the team has been really really good. Early on in the season we were getting on coach for playing this guy too much or that guy too much. It has worked out quite well.

I actually think that Mulcahy brings a calming influence to the team and actually hides many of the mistakes/shortcomings of other players... especially on defense. His help defense positioning is exceptional. I suggest you watch that closely I think you'll have a different take on how impactful he is.

Ive watched paul closely. On offense he causes the lane to get clogged alot due to his inability or unwillingness to shoot. He dribbles too much and gets caught in bad positions alot. I dont really see the same help defense as you, when he does help hes way too slow to get back to his man when it is kicked and often leads to open 3pt attempts. At this point in his career hes a liability as an on ball defender when guarding a guard

now, he does make some incredible pass, he does sometimes get to the cup and finish, again im not saying hes all bad but we have better options to take some of his minutes.

Fair enough. I respect your opinion.

But...glad that my opinion is shared by our head coach :-)

Did you watch the Penn State game? We played balls to the wall the 1st 4 minutes and had 5 turnovers. Paul played 30 of the next 36 minutes and we had 6 turnovers during that time. A lot of that was him.
I respect your opinion on a lot of subjects, but in this case, if you read the other responses, you'll realize your alone with your opinion if Paul.

I wish we could play Indiana again. I listened to the IU post-game radio show, and they are some condescending a-holes. One minute they are mocking Rutgers, then the next they patting themselves on their backs. IU scoring only 50 points wasn't a result of Rutgers' defense, but IU's lack of offense. At the same time, they praised IU for holding Rutgers to 59 points in a B1G game. The announcers seem to go out of their way to avoid giving Rutgers any credit.

We held Indy to 13% below their average shooting percentage per game. Meanwhile against them we shot 1% better than our average.
