Indiana fires Kevin Wilson

I don't see why fleck would go to Indiana Or Purdue. I think he can find a better job than that now and will likely take hermans spot as top G5 name if he stays one more season.

That's a risk. He's benefited from a very weak MAC this year with some of their coaches leaving last year. His best win is a 1 point against Northwestern. His undefeated season has brought him a lot of attention will it remain next year?

In his 2 years, Tom Herman had a couple wins against Louisville, FSU, OU and some ranked teams in the AAC. Even with all that he still had an up and down year this year beating some really good teams and losing to some he shouldn't have but his resume is hefty compared to Fleck. So you take the risk that your star won't be as bright next year.

He can coach but he didn't win enough to get away with this kind of stuff.
He got away with it for a long time as this was back when he was OC at OU & likely not related to why he was fired from IU.

I think Herman almost lost getting the Texas job after some Houston losses.
What saved him was the loss Texas had to TCU .
After after losing to Navy and SMU some of his luster wore-off and Texas started thinking buying out Strong and his staff might not be worth the gamble.
But even with Houston losing to Memphis Strong's loss to TCU made Texas feel Herman needs to be hired before another program nails him.

Sooners won (a NC and two Heisman QB's when he was the OC) and Hooisers didn't.

If he had the same success as HC as he did as an OC he might have survived this. That's all I'm saying.

Not to derail your arguing but
AD said no smoking gun just different philosophies. He settled for 542k so I'm not buying that story.
New coach gets 6 years. Crazy

Wilson settled for 500K or the new guy is getting that?

The news is reporting this as "philosophical differences". No real info regarding player behavior interviews with university lawyers and it doesn't seem like the articles call for more info on that particular area.

Indiana Players Latest Victims of Coaching Abuse First Seen at Rutgers

Indiana Players Cite Losses to Kyle Flood's Rutgers Squad As Point Where Coaching Abuse Started

Players interviewed as part of the process indicated Coach Wilson was a stark-raving lunatic after the second loss to Rutgers in 2015, and he was heard screaming, "How the hell did you guys lose to that idiot?"

Indiana athletic director Fred Glass and new head coach Tom Allen met with the media for about an hour, but many questions remain about the specifics of why Kevin Wilson was fired. Glass, who was a successful lawyer before becoming AD, continually referred to "philosophical differences" without going into many details.

That's what you get when your AD is a lawyer. Thank goodness. . . . . . . :flush:

I answered what you asked, even though I think you already knew what I was talking about.
So let's not hijack this thread into a Sandusky/Schiano or anything involved with both and keep it about Wilson

I didn't know about this. No one here seems to think this is a problem for Greg since his name is mentioned for every HC opening from ND, Oregon and on down. Why would it matter to Indiana if nobody else is concerned about it ?

I can see why PSU would be concerned but not the others.

Story on new Indiana HC
Indiana promotes DC Tom Allen to replace Kevin Wilson as head coach

Indiana’s search for a head coach wasn’t much of a search.

The school confirmed reports that Kevin Wilson was out as the Hoosiers coach on Thursday and that he would be replaced by defensive coordinator Tom Allen.

“I appreciate Coach Wilson’s many positive contributions to our football program,” athletic director Fred Glass said in a statement. “This has nothing to do with the performance of the football team, which I view as quite positive and very much heading in the right direction.

“Once Coach Wilson and I concluded to part ways, I turned to determining who the best person in the country would be to keep up our momentum and take us to another level with our football team… I quickly concluded that person was in our midst in Tom Allen. He is a leader of men. He is demanding without being demeaning. He is a proven, successful coach on a national scale with deep Indiana ties. He cares about his players, and they care back.”

Glass did add during his press conference on Thursday evening that there were no NCAA issues or medical related to Wilson’s departure, just that they disagreed over the future of the team.

As for Allen, he arrived in Bloomington in January of this year to help revive Indiana’s defense and helped the team improve in just about every statistical category this season. He’s a native of New Castle, Indiana and has had notable stops at Ole Miss and South Florida during his career.

With Allen in place as head coach for the Hoosiers, that may just conclude one of the strangest — and quickest — coaching searches in college football this year. Wilson’s resignation (as it was termed in the release) certainly came out of nowhere on Thursday and it didn’t take long before the school quickly moved on his replacement.

Indiana’s regular season is over but the team is still awaiting their bowl destination for later this month. Luckily for them though, they don’t have to wait at all to find out who their head coach will be in 2017 and beyond.

Sooners won (a NC and two Heisman QB's when he was the OC) and Hooisers didn't.

Wilson made a case for the Oklahoma job in 2000 when he helped introduce the spread offense to the Big Ten as the offensive coordinator at Northwestern, leading an NU team that had gone 3-9 the previous year to a share of the B1G championship. His offense, combined with the Cats' poor defense, led to some of the most exciting college football games I've ever seen, including a 47-44 double OT win against Wisconsin, a 41-35 win over Minnesota on a Hail Mary pass, and a 54-51 slugfest against Michigan.
But despite his recognized coaching talent, Wilson has a rep as a rather sour individual with a hot temper. Many on the Northwestern board thought Indiana was taking a risk hiring him as head man, and unfortunately those reservations seem to have come to fruition.

The Fordham people I know told me the same about one of our previous BB coaches.

I look for Wilson to go to the pros , if he can, and let the dust settle .
Then try to get back as a mid major HC or an OC somewhere if he doesn't
stay in the NFL.

As for Indiana hiring Allen, that is a big gamble for them unless there's something in that 6 year contract that keeps buyout low.

I look for Wilson to on top of LSU OC board once Kiffon says no.

I could see that, strong offensive mind and a player's coach like Orgeron in the middle to smooth any problems over. He'd be a good hire too assuming these off the field issues don't balloon into anything.

I'm not a fan of the Orgeron hire but with Aranda on one side and Wilson on the other that's a strong combo with a lot of talent to work with too. Orgeron could do well with those two.

You might be right, because it looks like there won't be any type of scandal happening the way Wilson's termination is being handled by Indiana .

My old football coach at Caldwell would just about be getting out of prison about now if today's standards were applied 30 years ago.
Exactly. Remember when football players were actually required to be tough. BTW I played at West Essex around the same time you were at Caldwell. We probably chewed some of the same turf.
