Oh for shit's sake. Was just going to post this. I was so looking forward to the game as well. Wonder if the men will get canned as well.
ok it looks like they changed things. The game will try to be rescheduled but still the possibility of forfeit exists if the team cannot show why they cannot meet a safety threshold to play
Previously, if teams could not play a conference contest due to COVID-19 concerns, the game would be declared a forfeit. But as omicron has caused widespread outbreaks within several college basketball programs, leagues have been forced to reexamine similar protocols, and the Big Ten has joined in.
Now, per the Big Ten’s revised rules, if a team cannot meet the threshold for what the conference deems safe competition (seven available scholarship players and at least one available countable coach), the game will be rescheduled. If it cannot be rescheduled, it will be declared a no-contest. Only in cases where a team cannot reasonably demonstrate why it cannot meet that safety threshold will the game be considered a forfeit. The remains wiggle room within those definitions, which would require schools to demonstrate an inability to compete safely to the conference directly.
