I'm sure I left out a few names but check out some of Iowa's terrific Head Coaches and Players over the past 40 years:

Coaches:

- Ralph Miller
- Lute Olsen
- George Raveling
- Tom Davis (The Doctor)
- Steve Alford

Players:

- BJ Armstrong
- Ronnie Lester
- Brad Lohaus
- Roy Marble (believe he just recently passed away)
- Kevin Kunnert
- Aaron White
- Acie Earl
- Bobby Hansen
- Downtown Freddie Brown
- John Johnson (70's)

I'm sure I'm missing many players but for whatever reason I always liked and rooted for Iowa squads......

The last time I saw the Hawkeyes in person was in the 1989 NCAA tournament in Providence back in the days when Rutgers participated in that event. That was Wenzel's first season...."Dream Big Dreams." Well at least we still have a Dadika! Rutgers lost that game but it was exciting and went down to the last minute or 2.

yeah Roy Marble died last year, cancer. his son was also a 1,000 PT scorer for Iowa and is currently in the NBA (I think).

You won't find many Iowa fans who would use "terrific" and "Steve Alford" in the same sentence. Pretty sour feelings for many fans still.

But yes Iowa does have a pretty underrated history. Credit to Coach Fran for making us respectable again. We were in pretty bad shape a few years ago, like you guys are dealing with now. It can get better with the right coach.

Storm Hawk, I would be happy to have 10 players on team. Right now 7 players and a center with a bad knee.

I don't remember the game being that close. I do remember that BJ Armstrong scored 35 points and that RU lost by double digits.

I was surprised at the success they've had historically. Did a quick check ....20 wins + in 10 of the last 20 years. Only 5 seasons below 500. 8 NCAA appearances. Stevel Alford led them to 3 NCAA appearances. RU would name the court for him.....lol

So sad being an RU fan.

87-73 final. I have no idea if it was close throughout with a late run to widen the gap, or what.

I really hope you guys turn it around soon. You seem like a quality fanbase.

It was on ESPN and we made a run in the 2nd half and were fairly close. Then ESPN switched to follow a game going to the wire or OT with Evansville (in their horrible purple jerseys with sleeves) and when they returned to RU-Iowa we were getting blown out. Too much Les Jepsen!
